This is what I meant when I said the bullpen isn't untouchable. Not like they have 3 riveras out there. Not nearly as consistent

No, but the Yankees have like 4 guys you can count on, so when one has their inevitable rough game once in a while they have another 2-3 elite guys to bail them out.

Meanwhile the Twins have, 1-2 guys they can sort of count on most of the time? ANd if one of them falters....hold onto your butt.

Trading Kintzler was so so so so dumb.

Elite closer he was not, but damn solid RP he was. Which is key on a team with no real bullpen depth.

Twins lose at Yankee stadium

Vikings don't have a QB they can count on.

Glad some things never changeZ

Yankees sign the top rp in baseball.

Twins panic and trade their best RP.

It's like one team has won a **** load of titles in the last couple decades and one team hasn't sniffed a World Series in 26 years. funny how that works.

You just compared Chapman to Kintzler..........

Tough loss, but if you get down to 7th to the Yanks, it's basically over.  They lost the game by not being able to lay Garcia's junk stuff all night.  Expecting to score off Robertson-Betances-Chapman isn't how you beat the Yankees.

Who's ready for round 2 tomorrow?

I am.

Although I'd prefer the opposite outcome of tonight.

Yup, can't K 9 times against a guy whose own manager doesn't trust him

Won't happen. Rain is coming and hard. I bet they call it early by 4pm and double header on Wed.

Another thing to note: There are a lot of youngsters on the Twins who have never played under these conditions: Playoff atmosphere in one of the most hostile ballparks in the US.

The youngsters played very well. Just came up a bit short.

I hate to say it, but the boys once again were overwhelmed by the New York spotlight. They took horrible at bats early in the game - way too over anxious - the adrenaline was clearly pumping.   Just at the point when they started to settle in - the Yankees shut down bullpen took control.

The only silver lining may be that they can get all of this out of their system in time for a possible Wild Card.

Who was saying the Yankees bullpen was overrated again?

I'm telling you. This team (assuming they beat our twins in wC) will be a very very very tough out in the playoffs.

I wouldn't exactly call the new Yankee stadium "hostile". It's very time compared to the old place. Plus, they had barely 30k PAID tonight. The fans will show up for the playoffs (probably), but tonight was tame.

Old Yankee Stadium was hostile. This is a wine and cheese crowd.

In non **** news: Koivu just gave our team a real nice hometown discount!

(Hopefully joe follows suit!)

Twins made Jaime Garcia look like Cy Young tonight.

I wanted one guy, just one, to go up there and take every pitch.  He would have walked.

Does anyone know how many pitches they swung at out of the zone?

Why don't they realize that Jaime Garcia's main issue is that he can't throw strikes?

You have to beat the Yankees early;  their bullpen is too good, if occasionally unable to throw strikes.

Watching the 8th again... Dozier was a let down. The leader, hunting a walk. Had the count at 2-0, and watched meat right down the heart of the plate, to go to 2-2. Plus, more hind sight. Granite could have very possibly/probably worked a walk too.... and not given the Yankees a free out there. Bunting again. Traditional, for sure, but if Dozier is going to test the wildness for a walk instead of trying to drive in the tying run from second..... why not give Granite a few pitches to see if he gets the free base, and moves the runner, without giving up an out.
