Trump fires Comey

Comey got fired due to a recommendation by the asst AG. He works for the guy who had to recuse himself (the AG Sessions) from the trump/russia investigation. Doubtful the asst AG did that without prompting from Sessions (who likely was prompted by Trump).

A bunch of subpoenas came out today for that investigation and it was revelead today that Comey had asked for quite a bit more funding for the investigation. Gee, I wonder what the real reasons are for his firing?

This is a coverup attempt, plain and simple. How can the AG who recused himself be allowed to even be involved suggesting the investigator of the trump/russia dealing be fired when he had to recuse himself from that investigation.

And people are still buying Trump.

Oh,and today he met with the Russian Foreign Minister.

Right,  Additionally, Comey had officially asked Rosenstein (Deputy AG) for more money and people for the Russia investigation just last week.   So why now? Because Comey was seeking to ramp up the investigation (put another way, there's so many leads he didn't have the people or resources to properly investigate it all).

I just wanted to point out not all conservatives are Trump fans the same way I hope not all liberals are fans of everything democrats do no matter the implications or reasoning. It definitely feels lonely in the minority though.

As others have said, I hope you keep sharing your takes.  And I'd like to point out that I do (and many probably do as well) distinguish between conservative and RW, with the later signalling the turn away from conservativeness towards autocracy.

On Comey, the issue for many is 'why now?' Sure he was arguably incompetent, but that was the case on day 1 of Trump's presidency.  The rationale given for firing Comey doesn't add up in terms of timing, much less seem like the actual reasons.

Might I suggest better RW friends. To be fair I didn't vote for Trump or Hillary, but there are definitely segments of traditionally Republican voters that aren't happy with Trump. I don't really get the outrage over Comey being fired. He had bungled enough on both sides of the aisles that I don't think removal was out of line. I can't help but feel like some of outrage is manufactured (not saying that's what people are doing here), but I am referring to Colbert last night. Depending on whose side did what totally frames whether this is worthy or cheer/praise or booing/shame. I am just over both sides doing that. It's annoying.

Again I don't like Trump. The wall is stupid, the EO on religious freedoms was toothless, the budget was awful. If you want to see more conservative viewpoints that are disapproving of Trump look up Josh Jordan (political junkie), Matt Walsh (Blaze writer and Catholic blogger), and Russell Moore (President of Southern Baptist Convention). The first two can be over the top and you likely won't like many of their other opinions, but Dr. Moore is refreshing in this politically charged times.

Appreciate the reasoned response, but Matt Walsh has more issues than Sports Illustrated in many areas of life. I'd have trouble utilizing him as a positive example of, well, anything.

"Rosenstein threatened to resign after the narrative emerging from the White House on Tuesday evening cast him as a prime mover of the decision to fire Comey and that the president acted only on his recommendation, said the person close to the White House, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter."

I wonder how much longer Rosenstein has at the White House now that that leaked.

Rosenstein must think (rightly) that him threatening to quit matters to people in the White House.

Why?  I'm genuinely curious why they just didn't let him resign?  Would it be that he'd spill the beans on how it really went down?

This just keeps getting worse for trump. Conflicting statements, more smoke, more questions, more people interested. If his supporters thought Clinton should be jail... pretty tough to ignore what's going on now.

His supporters don't care about the rule of law, let's just be clear on that.

Nevertheless, they persisted.

Unreal. You'd think a handler or someone would have expected those questions and tried to explain to Trump what not to say.

I'm surprised no handler has literally taped his mouth shut and smashed his phone.

I suspect they do tell him - but he tends to think he knows best.  I am guessing he ignores a lot of advice.  I also think his attention span is pretty much shot and combined with his impulsiveness, he gets caught up in the moment and forgets much of what was told to him earlier.

He has so many questionable business dealings and financial arrangements, they might eventually be able to bring him down even without establishing the Russian connection.

Wow - he is having a twitter rant that is amazing even for him. He is out of control and from the interviews it is amazing how unqualified he is for the job.  I still don't think that is covered as much as it should be by the media- how little he prepares and studies the issues he is dealing with.

The Comey tweet is a little chilling.

James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!

...Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future "press briefings" and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???

As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with perfect accuracy!....

The Fake Media is working overtime today!

Again, the story that there was collusion between the Russians & Trump campaign was fabricated by Dems as an excuse for losing the election.

The Comey one is interesting. Is Trump admitting that the White House was taping conversations they had with Comey? Are their listening devices in the Oval Office? Because it doesn't make sense if Trump doesn't know what is on a tape, does it? I'm so confused by this guy.

I'm just wondering why he's warning Comey if there actually are tapes. If Comey was going to lie about something, wouldn't it be best to let him lie and then whip out the tapes to discredit him entirely?

Wouldn't these guys or anyone else tied to Russia have destroyed all evidence long ago? Who in their right mind would still have incriminating evidence of treason when everyone on the planet is aware that the FBI has been investigating for months?

I think, if it's money laundering, they need to keep some kind of money trail or the people holding the evidence don't know it's evidence. If someone was getting $ routinely sent to them through a super pac, for example, I think the pac would retain records of money coming in and out even if it didn't know the purpose.  But I'm just guessing.

This is why this BS artist is so out of his element. He thinks he's inscrutable, and he's just not.

I seriously doubt Comey would have anything to fear by Trump leaking tapes of their conversations. Trump likely would.  So if Comey does start talking, Trump will say something like, I'll release the tapes of our conversations soon' and then never do it.

First, I would like to say how depressing Trump and his everyday evil BS is wearing me down and I see no end to it as the GOP is not going to touch his corruption. We are cemented in some bleak and dark times, nothing like I have ever seen.

Second, on a lighter note, I seen a clip where Comey walks across a room to shake Trump's hand and Comey just towers over him. I thought Trump was over six feet and I look it up and he is listed as 6'2", Comey is listed as 6'8" - holy smokes he is tall, I think Trump lied about his height as well because it seemed like Comey had a foot on him.

I think it's better if he never gets impeached. Let this linger for the next 4 years and enrage average Americans. Open their eyes to what is going on with the gop. Then, completely crush this nationalist, white America movement. I hope eventually some will see the light.

There's a lot of damage that can be done in 4 years.

The core of the fascist mindset (and this is IMO the proper term for it) is a sense of treachery thwarting their values and their rightful place in the world. It can't be crushed head-on - their intentions can be thwarted but it only increases their fury. Letting their guy "linger" for 4 years will involve constant resistance of a sort that will feed their indignation, which comes out already as the kind of rage you are asking for. This cancer can't be excised easily, but perhaps can be shrunk bit by bit, through individual interactions that assuage their sense of mistreatment; the Democrats have done a pisspoor job of this, as has been discussed to death.
