Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Welp...Brian duensing is going to win a World Series ring next year. Unless he's traded of course.
ashbury Verified Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Unless he's traded of course.I'm worried. The Cubs now possess the necessary sweetener to a deal to pry Byron Buxton away from the Twins.
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 The Astros signed Carlos Beltran to a 1 yr. $16M deal. They are going to score a ton of runs next year.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Surprising non-tenders yesterday in Tyson Ross and Wellington Castillo. Also interesting to see how some of the deals just before the deadline may have been different if those two were known to be available, which it sounds like neither was shopped at all in the last week or two.

Really? That is interesting. He'd instantly become my top FA target now that Castro is signed.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 Really? That is interesting. He'd instantly become my top FA target now that Castro is signed. He had TOS surgery this summer, and there is no real time line for return on that, so there's no guarantee on what you'd get in 2017. He was projected at $9M in arbitration, which is likely the sticking point. I'm sure if you went to him with a 2+1 deal in the $15-20M guaranteed range, he'd listen pretty strong.

No more anonymity. The full list of voters and their choices will be released seven days after the official announcement of which candidates are selected, beginning in January 2018. This does not take effect for the class to be announced next month. Voters, one last time, can optionally reveal their ballots. I love this!
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Free agent catcher Wilson Ramos and the Rays have agreed to a two-year deal, Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets. ...Ramos will receive a total of $12.5MM guaranteed, with the potential to make up to $18.25MM with incentives, FanRag’s Jon Heyman tweets. I'm surprised the Rays of all teams nabbed him. If he doesn't reach those incentives, that means we're paying Jason Castro more per year and overall. I know Ramos isn't good defensively and had a ACL tear... but that's a heck of a deal by the Rays. Kudos to them.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Sounds like Ramos would have signed on the line for the first team to give him 2/$20M even with incentives, but found no takers. That just surprises me. Yes, the offense was a first time thing to be at that level of production, but he's always been a solid defender with pop before this.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Three revised top 10s in one day, and now the Royals and Cubs are trying to make it five!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 In fairness, imo, Ramos won't play much, if at all, the first half of next year. He may never catch again. He may catch again, but may not. This team needs a catcher, not a DH/catcher. I get the Ramos love, but it comes with considerable risk. The Rays decided they could take that risk. Frankly, given the Red Sox and Yankees and TOR (for another year or two) teams, about all the Rays can do is take risks. If they play the odds, they have no chance to win, as the odds are stacked against them greatly.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 Chapman is heading back to the Yankees for 5 years, $86 million.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Chapman is heading back to the Yankees for 5 years, $86 million. So, they traded him, and then bought him back. Must be nice to have loads of money. This is one time Levi is right, imo, money does help for sure.

jimmer Verified Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 When Chapman commands that kind of money, few play at that level. They will regret this signing, from the perspective of sound business practice.
