Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 You guys sound like a bunch of Millenials Didn't your mother teach you to pick up the phone and call your friends instead of your Facebooking, snapchatting, or whatever you young whippersnappers do these days?My Mother taught me to respect my elders, and my betters. What's your point, boy? Vanimal46, Pardon My Dinger, wsnydes and 1 other 4
SwainZag Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Like I mentioned in another post, I generally don't see them in a negative light. They're just not something that interests me. I'd find them more of an annoyance than useful if I did use them, which is why I don't. I get annoyed enough when coworkers are getting notifications and whatnot during the workday. Time and place. Other than that, if you enjoy that stuff, knock yourself out. You'll get no complaints from me. I completely agree with you on time and place. If you insist on getting notifications in the workplace, which is none of my business, at least keep your device on silent. And my bad, I looked back up and it wasn't you who claimed Twitter as "completely useless." wsnydes 1
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 (edited) So who here is both ancient enough and geeky enough to remember Usenet and IRC? P.S. Extra credit if you ever ran your own Gopher server. Edited August 18, 2016 by Craig Arko Squirrel 1

And my bad, I looked back up and it wasn't you who claimed Twitter as "completely useless."No worries, it's all good. If you're at work, I'd prefer if you were working, but that's the manager in me talking. Save it for a break. You're getting paid to work, not tweet. Outside of that, how you spend your free time is your business not mine. Speaking of which, my lunch is almost over...

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I live vicariously through my wife's Facebook account, I have no interest in having my own. Yeah, I'm sorry, but that counts as being connected with social media. You don't have your own account so you can brag you don't have one ... yet follow your wife's. Uh huh ... doesn't count then. You are on social media. I've seen your pictures there. You're there. twinsnorth49, Pardon My Dinger, SwainZag and 6 others 9

Before IRC, I was on Compuserve's CB area. Craig Arko 1

That could be a thing, I'm more of a Facebook lurker, put it that way. Although glancing over my wife's shoulder at it, it does seem to be a cesspool of inanity. Not you Chi . Platoon Verified Member Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Pictures?.......wut? I do exactly the same thing. TD is the limit of my social media. But....... While my wife shows me pic of interest, family, oddities, and kitties, I don't ever go and look on my own. And I have no interest of someone is going grocery shopping or off to take a nap. I will admit to hating it when someone says they are going to ,ow lawn, it puts a lot of stress on me to then mow mine! twinsnorth49 1

I've never once seen one FB post like those you mention, like I said, there is wheat to be found.... I highly recommend Humans of New York (which, you can get on a web site). Their recent work with PTSD and refugees is amazing stuff. Their older stuff where it is just stories is great also. Squirrel 1
Blake Verified Member Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I agree, Twitter and FB are only as useful as your ability to filter out the chaff....Yeah, but when you're filtering to the point it's only about 1% wheat, then it's probably not worth it.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Yeah, but when you're filtering to the point it's only about 1% wheat, then it's probably not worth it. Well, you have to add the wheat. You don't start with the world connected to you... SwainZag 1

It keeps them doogies moving, rawhide. I also bet they would be effective on those flights when they try and pack extra people on de plane, de plane!Yes? No?
Platoon Verified Member Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Yes? No? While I am not sure it its doogies, or dogies, I am sure of one thing. No self respecting horse would be seen carrying him around! HitInAPinch 1

Platoon Verified Member Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 As a sports fan I think Twitter is extremely useful. Up to the minute updates during games, deadlines, etc. You choose who you follow, you can customize lists (IE: Twins writers, NBA players, etc.) Any way of quickly sharing information isn't a complete waste IMO. I am not on Twitter, and I doubt I ever will be. For one thing, it allows you to express the first thing that comes into your mind on a subject, and put it in digital ink! Ugh, never a good idea. Secondly, North would just probably follow me there, and continue to correct my spelling mistakes! SwainZag, Vanimal46 and wsnydes 3
