i didn't know what to expect in terms of cash thrown into a Nolasco dump. $4 million is a lot lower than I would have guessed. I'm into it. I think the twins did better than most this year.

If you ever mentioned that Nolasco had a better FIP or xFIP than ERA there was some backlash. Now with Santiago   suddenly it means something. One way statistics for the boo birds

Who is the 5th Twins starter after Santana, Santiago, Gibson and Berrios?

I have read that Duffey and Milone are both headed for the pen to join Kintzler, May, Pressley, Tonkin, Rogers and Boshers

I think he means "except" as in "only."

No, I mean "except." Over very large sample sizes ERA is a better predictor than FIP and xFIP because pitchers do vary in their "true" BABIP and HR/FB ability.

The sample size progression goes:

xFIP - FIP - ERA

For a tiny number of innings, xFIP is better because HRs can distort FIP. Over larger samples FIP is better because it captures the pitcher's "true" HR/FB ability. Over really large samples ERA is best because it accounts for that plus BABIP.

Duffy is going back to the rotation

Can you explain how it is inexcusable that they did not trade him when your evaluation of him is that he is "terrible"?   What exactly were they supposed to get for a terrible player?  Given your general assessment of Suzuki, why would you think he should have been easy to trade?

Anything is better than nothing, and I believe I only said he was a terrible defensive catcher, in reply to a post that was specifically saying he should be kept around for his defense

Well, if you look at it that way, why would any contending team trade for him??

Did you see I specifically only commented on his defense and leading a young pitching staff? Read again

They would trade for him because currently he's an offensive upgrade for some teams. Also, I wouldn't have expected a big return

Thanks for that info.

I suspected that.

Milone has been good for 3-4 innings, so the bullpen may work for him.

If Duffey stinks again, he'll get a four-week-vacation in upstate NY.

I understand where you are coming from but there is a limited amount of man power working a lot of deals in a very short period of time.  Do you really want to waste time working on a deal that returns nothing or focus as much attention as possible to the deals that have a return associated with them?

We also have Berrios joining the rotation and hopefully Chargois will be up soon as well. I think there is value in having a veteran catcher to help them get started at this level.

It comes down to he is not blocking anyone so what is the point of moving him for nothing in return?

These deadline deals are kind of like playing chicken.  You have to be willing to hold your ground until the very end.  Sometimes the other side is not going to give in and the deal does not get done.  I guess the point of all of this is I don’t understand why anyone would complain about the FO for not giving away Kurt Suzuki.

Even if the only difference is which arm they throw with, it gives them a lefty in the rotation which the Twins always seem to want. This trade then eliminates the need for Milone too.

I'm hoping that's the next step here over the next couple of days.  Place Milone, Plouffe and Suzuki on waivers and see what comes up.
