Article: Twins Trade Deadline Tidbits

So Francisco Mejia (top 100 Cleveland catching prospect) was the headliner in the Lucroy deal along with three other prospects who I don't believe were on any top 100 lists.  Mejia is putting together a nice season in high A, so not the short term answer if the Twins want more C help now, but is a very nice prospect.

I was totally just thinking the same thing. Suzuki and Kintzler or Abad for Mejia? Would that get it done? Do the Indians even need a reliever (after getting the far superior Miller)? I realize there is the whole trading withing the division thing, but don't think the Indians would care that much.

Looking at the wants/needs of Texas...I could see a package of Ervin Santana, Suzuki and Abad for something. Talk about a monster trade!

 

Now if we could package someone with Nolasco to the Dodgers for their catching prospect (after they land Lucroy) and find takers for Plouffe and Milone (at least get back an A prospect). Maybe Anthony would be right for the job afterall.

 

But why do I have the sneaking suspicion that the Twins powers-that-be are considering too much wealth and hoping for a big payback, rather than compromising on some pieces and looking at a bigger picture. Right now, every team has assets to move (that they can't keep or protect in the off-season) and, as people have said, you usually get a little sweetner with the trading deadline deals, compared to off-season antics.

 

But it would be disappointing if the Twins don't move a catcher (who will be a free agent) a starting asset or two (as teams are getting stymied by other teams) and a bullpen arm for the future of the organization.

That is wild. Can't remember every hearing of that happen before.

Lucroy wanted to nix the option for next year, which of course the Indians would not do, as part of the price they paid is that option.  Odd turn of events.

And here I was thinking now that Lucroy was off the market, Suzuki would be able to be moved.

 

I suppose that Suzuki to the Indians would work.

I think Raffy Palmeiro vetoed a trade to a contender once.

 

Lucroy would have been better off asking for a few extra million. Because he won't get anyone to waive the option. My understanding is his no trade is limited. So I would expect he is moved to a team not on his no trade list now.

The Rangers (Suzuki and relievers?), Phillies, and Angels also have scouts at today's #MNTwins game. CWS guys to watch too, I'm sure.

MLBTR said Cleveland had interest in an A's lefty reliever... so I'd think they might have interested in Abad.  I don't know if Cle would do it, but I'd pretty happy with Antony if he managed to add a high impact catching prospect, even if said prospect starts next year in AA.

Yeah, Lucroy knows his deal is under valued, and probably part of why he gave them a friendly option was the NTC power that he got with it. He's well within his rights here, and he apparently doesn't want to go to Cleveland...

 

Now I have to ask though, why didn't Milwaukee bother talking to him about that before hand?

Perhaps Milwaukee did talk to him about it earlier, and gave Cleveland a chance to come to an arrangement with him (i.e. an extension, or extra cash). But it didn't work out.

Strangely enough, MN is on Lucroy's NTC.  I find it odd that he put a team on there that wouldn't be interested in acquiring him.

Yeah after contending last year there were lots of posts on TD about the Twins trading for him.

 

It's probably safe to then rationalize that Lucroy is an ardent Twins Daily reader.

Doesn't seem like he's leveraging it...just using it to pick places he doesn't like.

The reports were that he rejected it because he wanted Cleveland to void his 2017 option so he'd become a free agent sooner. This was driven be the fact that Cleveland wouldn't guarantee he would be the full time catcher next year when Gomes returned, Cleveland said he would play some 1B and DH, which could diminish his leverage when becoming a free agent.

 

As much as it's fun to think he just hates Cleveland, he was simply doing what was best for his future.

Plus, by voiding his cheap 2017 option, wouldn't that work better for him? Wouldn't he want to hit the free agent market after this season?

I sure hope we don't hear.. We were in this deal and that deal.. But just came up  a bit short ..

Perception is reality, if he is only getting 80 games behind the dish it's going to effect his value moving forward IMO.

Bread isn't the worst thing in the world, debatable if even bad, for diabetics    Now 2 Snickers and a liter of Jolt would be nasty for a diabetic.  That would be sweetness. Nobody would call Santana's  play sweet.
