Drew Storen anyone?

I'd be tempted to gamble on him in hopes of a long term arrangement. Meaning, take him, and parlay it into an extension.

Doing a quick search it appears that he is making 8.375M this year. That would leave the Twins on the hook for 3.5M+ if they claim him. That's not really all that much money to not take a gamble on a guy who not very long ago had tremendous upside and results.

It seems like it went down the tubes for him when Washington acquired Papelbon last year. Toronto's offense orientated ball park doesn't seem like the best place to get your head screwed on straight again.

With the deficit the Twins have in their pitching staff, I would do it, the Twins are going nowhere this year and can afford to throw him out there regularly, even if the results are no good. Maybe he can be straightened out. It's worth a try. It is definitely not a crazy idea.

Me too when I look at his peripherals like 17.6 % HR/FB, .363 BABIP, and 3.67 SIERA along with 8.64 K/9 (career average).  However, a -2 mph loss in the FB (that practically has been his biggest issue) and -3 mph loss in the changeup makes me think that this might be a Perkins2.0 situation and the guy is hurt.

If I believed in the Twins' medical personnel, I'd work a quick trade with the jays for someone that will not be part of the Twins' future (like Boshers) and see what is going on.  He is still not 29 years old.

But do I trust the Twins' docs?

He's a free agent this off season, I'm not sure I'm understanding the debate. Kicking the tires on him come November sounds like a thought.

Otherwise, I don't get signing him now unless we're talking about taking on his salary in full, putting him through waivers Aug 1 and hoping he regains form and trading him by September 1st.

I want to see the Twins remove pieces from the bullpen and build internally, not draw more has-beens to the roster.

If they want to sign Storen to a MiLB contract this offseason, have at it. This season should be about figuring out what they have in Rochester and Chattanooga.

The idea was to pick him up and give yourself an in to resign him for next year. I'm hoping we have plenty of opportunities for the young guys by dealing Abad, Pressly, etc.

I guess I'd assume signing him next year will be about dollars or years regardless which team he plays for come game 162.

I also want to see the prospects. Right now that would include Wimmer and He'll gender as well as Chargois. Maybe Melotakis, though he could be a bit of a reach still at the moment. But I've been thinking about the team picking up one vet to help stabilize the pen and remove some pressure. Sort of thought a Hawkins type, someone looking for and probably good for one more season in the sun. But Storen could be that guy.

But it's also got 2 BIG it's attached. IF he checks out medically. And if my scouts or pitching coach can pick up something that may be out of whack. Not unlike Abad and his tipping of pitches.

It's an intriguing idea.

I'd bring him in, it's zero risk.

If he rebounds then maybe you flip him before Sept 1st? Or sign him for a year or two on a team friendly deal.

Give me Storen over the next 50 fiens and Ramierezs

If the Twins move 2-3 pieces out of the pen, I could get behind a Storen signing.

But I want to see a bunch of subtraction before any external addition occurs.

To flip him before Sept. 1st, you'd have to claim him now, and then pass him through trade waivers immediately on August 2nd so you could deal him later in the month.  If the Twins are willing to claim him, it's not clear that he would clear trade waivers on August 2nd.

And I highly doubt that Storen is signing anything over the next 2 months, his value is low right now.  He needs a good September performance, preferably higher profile with a contender, to try to boost his value.

I agree that many inn the bullpen need to be cleared out, but he is a great buy low candidate. Pending an injury, he could be effective for a long time and is a known quantity. Problem with the twins I'd they have a bunch of below average players that nobody wants, so it's kinda hard to clear space without eating contracts (which might have been the reason for Ryan being fired if i had to guess,).

Its an interesting idea. Players do tend to like it here, after they get here. I wonder what it would take to make the trade.
