Baseball America update its Minnesota Twins prospect rankings.

1.) Jose Berrios (1)

2.) Nick Gordon (3)

3.) Tyler Jay (2)

4.) Jorge Polanco (5)

5.) Stephen Gonsalves (4)

6.) Kohl Stewart (8)

7.) Felix Jorge (9)

8.) Fernando Romero (6)

9.) JT Chargois (7)

10.) Travis Blankenhorn (24)

They also have updated their 2019 roster/lineup, and it's interesting that they have changed the catcher to Mitch Garver.

In parentheses, you'll find my rankings at midseason (from early June, pre-draft), adjusted to point out that Max Kepler has graduated in the middle. (I had ranked him #1, so basically everyone moved up one spot). I think it's fair to note that Blankenhorn is the one player where we are vastly different. Of course, he has hit 6 homers in Elizabethton since I wrote mine, so he would likely be higher than 24 now, but not quite to the top ten.

Discuss the Baseball America rankings here

Decent list.....probably more floor than the lists a couple years ago. Not sure on the ceilings....I live in an alternate reality where Berrios is already up, so I'd have Jay or Gordon number 1.

It'd be nice to have a 3B prospect ranked that highly, whether it's Blankenhorn or Cabbage. If Sano doesn't stick at 3B the cupboard is bare for 2-3 years.

HIghly ranked prospects won't cover the 2-3 year gap if they are currently in Elizabethton.

Better hope Sano turns his self-evident tools into consistency as a third baseman, because there's nobody at high-A or above who can do a credible job to hold the fort. Beresford just doesn't have the bat. 29 year old retread Thomas Field just doesn't have the... resume. I think we'd better hang on to Nunez if we anticipate Sano's going to wash out in the field.

Not prospect-related, but interesting that Joe Mauer is at 1B in their 2019 lineup, when his current contract ends after 2018. :)

Dozier also must get an extension in their projections too.

A few interesting things about their 2019 lineup:

a. as far as position players go, other than C (Garver) and SS (Gordon), the lineup is the same as today (And they forgot to list a 3B, they have Sano as DH)

b. for some weird reason, they have Romero (mainly), Jorge, Stewart, and Consalves ahead of Jay in the rotation, assuming that Jay will not be in the majors or will be in the pen.

re: Blackenhorn.  He is a second baseman now, thus the helium, but it is pretty ridiculous ranking compare to (let's say) Javier who is actually 2 years younger, playing a more premium position (SS) and hits better.

Also interesting that Chargois is ahead on Burdi on the depth charge, despite the fact that Burdi has nor really played because injured.

Hard to compare with the off-season list because of the two different authors (This one is by Manuel.)

He is not a 3B prospect.  He is a 2B prospect, thus the helium.

Wow, when is the last time the Twins didn't have an OF in their top 10?

So true. I'm guessing we get a look at Palka in September.

Personally, defensively, I don't see those tools.  This past weekend kinda wrapped that up for me.  He was replaced by Nunez in the last Indians game.

Sano has 7 errors in 8 games at 3rd this year.  38 games in RF:  3 errors.  That author says some of the problems in RF did not manifest into errors. Fair enough.  I would say the same thing about his play at 3rd.

Offensively:  that's sort of disappeared.  Don't know what's happening there, but a break was the right call.

I'd say Sano's self-evident tool is as a DH.

Edit:  if I came over as harsh, I didn't mean it that way.  Just an observation....

Bolded parts are extremely true.

If I could, I'd take this post out and get it all liquored up :-)

Jorge Polanco could be a candidate at third. I'd feel better about this if he actually got some experience over there.

Sano has one of the best arms you'll see at third base. Let's give him some more time to evaluate him at third after he spent the entire season trying to learn the outfield.

The short popups that darn near bounded off his head this past week we very, very easy plays to make.  There is definitely a problem here.

BTW:  partial season learning RF.

I'm not an expert on how these things work, but I'm not sure the end results will be what you had in mind :)

They also have Plouffe at 3B.  Something tells me all 3 will be gone.  I'm hoping an outside GM won't make extension mistakes.
