So we're anti hindsight?  I'm up with that.  No need to keep going around in circles.  So, here's an original thought:

What's funny is when people say everything being pointed out is due to hindsight when SOOOOOOOO much of it wasn't at all.

I was just on MLBTR & it said the Twins are 100% committed to Terry Ryan. F this org!

Seriously, what do you think they'd say publicly. I don't put much credence in them b/c often times these type of endorsements are really just the "kiss of death" - at least with many other sports franchises.

"We are not happy with the performance, and everyone in the organization is being evaluated."

Not sure what would be wrong with a statement like that.

You are right in the end, that words are really meaningless, but at least make an attempt to acknowledge there is a problem.

I thought about hiding this post because unless I was reading it wrong... it seemed a little too snarky.

I chose not to hide it because it was at least historically interesting.

I do believe that this topic and the subsequent posts are fair game. Terry Ryan is getting blasted right now and TD Posters can actually post what they would have done differently in the off season. The wheels have come off... explain how you would have kept them on. It seems potentially much more constructive than just saying he must go.

I've done this with my grievances and it helped me conclude (hypothetically of course) that my moves would have been minimal improvements at best.

Morst of my issue is that most of these posts would still leave a team that would generating the same comments of a hindsight of why the team is bad.

Here are two people's takes on what they would have done differently based on hindsight.

There is a difference between describing what you learn from a situation and talking realistically about it and discussing somthing somebodyelse should have done based on the uncertain outcome of athletic performance. This team has what, Abad,  Nunez and Park exceeding expectations or career average. Centeno tbd. Nolasco is doing about career average. That would be the 4 players  that in general people thought should be gone or not have been signed.  Easy to say who should have been signed, who should have been in the minors. after the fact. Easier still to forget the busts that were advocated for.

After reading all the analyses here, I'm starting over on my expectations for the season. My belief early on was 86-76 and wildcard. Something special. Now the most I see is an MLB record 39 wins. Still special, just not the way any of us would hope. Likely I'm wrong again.

How wrong? Well, what if the team plays .500 or better the rest of the way with the players we have? TR then cites this improvement as a good reason not to make any moves.

We plan. God laughs.

There is a good chance many of these poor performances are players being put it roles/positions they aren't suited for. So it's not just under performance because there are structural problems with the roster.

Does the phrase "twisting in the wind" mean anything to you? :)

I don't think that's how a smart organization (baseball or just a normal business) would do things. The guy in charge is the guy in charge, up until the morning he no longer is. Telling the world that the guy at the top is being evaluated, just like everyone else, invites chaos/paralysis through indecision and unintentional insubordination at each level below.

I often type like that at 2:52 am as well...  That's when you get the truest and most accurate posts of all, at least to the poster, at least until you wake up and re-read your post.

I don't mean to speak for ON, but since I read like this frequently, I"ll take a stab.

I think perhaps he believes the people commenting in hindsight about how bad the team is, and what should have been done, would still be making comments, in hindsight, because those moves wouldn't have made a big difference.

If I have that correct, I would say that's a pretty strong indication he believes TR should be fired, since TR has the team in such dire straights that nothing he or we could have done would have changed a thing about a team on pace for a near record of futility.

That depends on if his statement is the truth or just generic cliche.

Having an employee who knows he will never be held accountable for his performance is inviting even more chaos.

Just for clarification... Nurse Meant?

A.  Nurse is saying: People will complain no matter what?

B.  Nurse is saying: Even if the front office made every decision exactly like a (collective composite of TD posters) wanted... the moves still wouldn't be enough and the (collective composite of TD posters) would then be critical of itself?

C. Nurse is saying: The team is bad... all your moves wouldn't work either so you will all just spin yourself into the ground until people can walk on your head?

D. Nurse is saying: It's easy to say what went wrong after it went wrong?

E. All of the Above

You're describing the difference in what is said privately versus what is said publicly. Other employees read the papers too.

What is different from last  year to this. Santana is in CF. He has been there before. That leaves Sano to right field. K% the same. BB% down slightly. FB% up, FB/HR down. Over 80 games last year he had 18 HR, 42 games this year 7. I would not say Sano has suffered much in the batting department. His runs scored and RBI are way down. That would be a function of the team around him.  So, who is in a role not suited for them and thus underperforming?

Rather than a 10 win team with the moves offered it may or may not result in a 15 win team.  With a 15 win team  the names bandied about would be different, but the same thread would exist about how there should have been different players added.

It is easy to say exactly what went wrong after it happened. No matter if it is sports, news or anything else people take great joy in informing others what went wrong. Human nature.

Please refrain from attributing your opinions to me.   Roster construction. Most of the time it takes a collective 15 WAR from 4 positions players to  have a near playoff team.  By history, Mauer, Dozier, Plouffe could provide the bulk of it. Rosario was over 2, Sano was a 2 for a half season.  Buxton has a world of potential. Stellar defense and a .700 OPS will get you a 5 WAR CF . At the start of the season that is 6 players that you can find your 4 players. At this point  2 of 6   are in the minors, that leaves the other 4.  Sano hasn't appeared to have that hot streak, but still is not the problem. Mauer is not what he was. He still is over 100 WRC, below what a major contributor should be. Plouffe and Dozier have been  sinkholes. At the start of the year, all Escobar  and Suzuki had to be was career average. I do not know of any team were 6/8 position players declined in the same year.  It is not the added pieces that are the problem.

Edit. See Nick Nelson's latest posting.
