LaBombo Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Okay ... I got bored and started filling in a form for a band name generator. I was supposed to put in random words and names, etc. One of the words I used was "stoning." I didn't mention the Twins at all (are they worth mentioning?), but it turns out this website collected cookies. I'm supposed to call my band "Stoning Twins."Sounds like a right good idea at that. You had me at "band name generator". Blake and Bark's Lounge 2

Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 The same world that gives Kepler is only start against a left hander. I'll bet a large sum of money that Molitor wasn't very interested in the news that Ryan Called him up. But also keep in mind... Molitor isn't stupid... He's probably getting session reports from Neil Allen as well. Meyer wasn't supported... that is for sure but... he's got some info. If Neil comes back and says... Meyer is spot on... Mechanics look great... the ball is popping. 2nd Pitches have command. Molly would listen. That might all be true. But, he was clearly doing something very right at AAA this year. I think it's a flat out joke that they yanked him out of a routine that was clearly working for him, for no discernable reason, and made him sit on the bench for 9 days, then threw him out there in a game he probably wasn't expected to pitch in, against a powerful lineup who is clearly swinging the bats well tonight. Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2016 Author Posted April 30, 2016 I think Terry Ryan called Meyer up without talking to Paul. I think they have been having a lot of conversations about it since. I think there will be another conversation tonight and I think it might be an interesting one. I have no idea what's happening behind those doors... but I've been behind enough doors to know what happens behind them. Actions speak louder than words. Meyer hasn't been pitching and Ryan hasn't been sending him down. We got ourselves a difference of opinion... in my opinion. Hosken Bombo Disco, Platoon and David HK 3

From my outsiders standpoint, this looks like terrible management all the way around. By the way, how many times have we heard how a pitcher, after being shelled, "looked sharp, great bullpen session a day later, ready to go.." only to get shelled the next outing?
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2016 Author Posted April 30, 2016 He needs to start Tues, and in 5 days after that. It's time to see if he can or can't. Ok... You Tell Paul I'm going to duck behind something sturdy and watch.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 What would you suggest he have done? Bring him into a winnable 1 run game, so he could put up that performance and actually cost the team a game? If anything, he put him into a situation where he should have felt as little pressure as possible. The game was pretty much over. He STILL crumbled like a 2 week old cracker.Well how about, and I know this is a crazy idea, leaving him in AAA on his normal rotation, and calling up Pat Dean or Taylor Rogers or Logan Darnell if all you needed was a warm body to sit on the bench waiting for mop up duty?

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Question. Keep Molitor, or keep Ryan. You have to choose one.I especially want Chief to take a shot at this I keep Molitor, if forced to chose one. Blake 1

Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 The nerves displayed by Meyer and Berrios are why you call guys up before you need them. Especially I a lost season. Meyer should have been up two years ago.Not to mention May's first start. What are they telling these guys before they make their debuts?
LaBombo Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) He STILL crumbled like a 2 week old cracker. That seems a little generous. Triscuits are like mithril after 3 days out in the wild. But yeah, he kinda started to look like he needed a hug or something. On the plus side of the ledger, the Fox postgame crew's round of 'Find a gentler synonym for 'suck' to describe Hughes's night' was a rousing success, I thought. In any case, he sat an extra 4 days. He would have waited five days minimum between starts in Rochester, so they essentially skipped a start. If that's enough to throw his entire game off, you're right. He should be in AAA, and he should rot there, because he's not a big league pitcher.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 I keep Molitor, if forced to chose one. He's still trading on the 3000th hit coming in a Twins uniform, I see.

Rosterman Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 You might say this is a pre-throwing day for Meyer. But why or why when every other pitcher goes an inning or less for the Twins, you send Meyer out there again in the 9th after a fairly rough inning THAT HE MANAGED to get himself out of. I'm sorry. You could've pitched Milone for that mop-up inning. Or start having some of the other guys get more than one or two outs. Meyer threw a comfortable amount of pitches in his 2/3rds of an inning, got to work out his nerves, got to show his stuff for comment. Instead, you elt the kid get literally clobbered again. Go figure. Yes, we lost this game BEFORE the bullpen came on the scene, but still...Fien is serving what purpose that a Graham can't, or a Rogers shouldn't. Five pitchers needed to pitch the final four innings? WHo, besides May, is supposed to be a long man...and you can even argue that.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 For the record I don't blame Molitor. He's got to manage to his style, right or wrong. You can't be someone you aren't. I blame Terry Ryan for a) hiring a guy to manage a rebuilding team without discussing how he'd handle young players. And, calling up Meyer when the whole world could have predicted he'd sit on the bench, just like Kepler and Polanco. Riverbrian and LaBombo 2
Bark's Lounge Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Word going around town is that Meyer rented his soul to Satan. It was a 2 years lease, and he did pretty well during that time in MiLB. The lease was set to expire and Meyer didn't renew it. To me, that explains the last two years. I'm wondering if I'd be this irritated if the Twins wouldn't have brought up Kepler, let him hang around for a bit, then sent him down without really playing him. Tom Kelly didn't invent the idea of letting young players he didn't want around flail in the quicksand of prolonged on-field struggles, thereby accelerating their disappearance into the muck, but he may have perfected it. So just think of the manager going 'burnt offering to futility' on a young player as a quaint Twins tradition. And isn't tradition one of the things that makes the game great? The other 40 man options were also crispy at the time. Only Meyer and Chargois were somewhat fresh options. But the odd thing was... TR was quoted by Berardino that Meyer was called up because we had starting pitcher issues. This thing just doesn't add up. I've been eating popcorn since Monday to watch this whole movie.

Primetime82 Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) So far my three favorite things about his managing are tripling for his 3000th hit, his covert plan to abuse the bunt so badly that MLB bans it forever, and his not being Gardenhire. Now that the novelty of watching someone besides Gardenhire #*@% things up is wearing off, there's not a lot to hang your hat on. **** Molitor. The guy is a joke! The only things he does good are chew gum like he's sniffing lines again and gleeking. I seriously hate this Organization right now. They robbed us for that stadium and they still penny pinch. They need to fire Ryan immediately. Enough of this country club we have jobs as long as we want ****. The Pohlads should do us all a favor and sell the team!!! Edited April 30, 2016 by Primetime82
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Man chief you clearly have something against Meyer. We have a lot of young players getting their feet wet and I don't remember you being this hard on any of the other ones struggles.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Really? Because proven veteran pitchers often need a start or two to get back in a groove after that much time between starts. But if it's true with a prospect he will never be a mlb pitcher?Proven veteren pitchers often have the wheels fall off if they skip a start? No. No they don't. If they do, they never get the chance to be "proven veteren starters." The "too much time off" thing is a canard, as far as I'm concerned. It has nothing to do with anything. Nine days is not too much time off.
