Can't believe none of you started this, especially since last I looked we were up 7-0.

Playing at Jet Blue today and Price gave up two solo shots. The next one in have up another plus some walks, hits, a WP and there you are.

Santana made it through 3 allowing nothing and struck out the side in the 2nd.

If I'm reading the box score correctly, 3 perfect innings for Santana followed by 2 perfect innings for Berrios. Against the Red Sox 'A' lineup.

Not too shabby,

This is the year Ortiz finally shows his age!! (Ortiz retiring counts. Nothing says "I'm too old for this game" like retiring)

I can't complain about how the game has gone.

Though i do note i contributed a bit to three game threads (er, 3 games, 2 threads, kinda a hemiola that way) which we lost...

But i'm not worrying. It's only spring training after all.

Here comes Alex Meyer to shut the Red Sox down.

Oops ... you spoke too soon ... you jinxed it!

Yeah, i guess so.

Sorry.

But still 6 runs ahead...

And i'm curios about the play ending the inning - singled to third baseman, runner from first out at second.

Guess he came off the bag, and someone was quick with the tag?

The runner was at first then out at 3rd ... my guess is maybe he tried to stretch what he could take, or took too big of a turn at 2nd and got caught in between. Something like that?

Well, whatever, Twins win 8-2 with a bit of everything. Boston beat writer Tim Britton commented:

"Escobar and Suzuki, who each hit homers last time up off Price, execute a perfect hit-and-run. Twins are in midseason form."

Not too shabby,

Adding to the impressiveness, Berrios faced 10 batters, threw 15 total pitches all for strikes. He struck out Ramirez and Sandoval consecutively on six pitches. Heck of an outing.

Where did you get the pitch count? mostly, they aren't tracked on line in ST......

It sounds like the Twins are progressing nicely.  I am also glad that there seem to be no significant injuries.

I was watching the gamecast on MLB.com while "working". Caught it on his final out. They include pitch count when a pitcher is on the mound, but exclude it in the box score.

I made that same mistake when I caught the gamecast when Nolasco was pitching. They do count the number of pitches thrown, but don't separate balls and strikes yet. When I was watching it they said Nolasco threw 15 strikes in a row, which wasn't the case...

MLB gamecasts don't necessarily record individual pitches for spring training.  Often you will see that every batter who puts a ball in play only has one pitch recorded for the plate appearance (the final pitch).  Every batter who walks has 4 (all balls).  Every batter who strikes out has 3 (all strikes).

If Berrios really retired 10 batters on 15 pitches, including 2 strikeouts, he might be the most efficient pitcher who ever lived. :)

Another note on spring training pitch counts:

The fact is, most spring ballparks aren't equipped to even track the pitches for Gameday. If I remember correctly, the only parks in the Cactus League that track pitches are Peoria, Surprise, Salt River Fields and the Cubs' new park in Mesa.

I imagine there are similar issues in the Grapefruit League too.

While this is a possibility, I want to remind posters that any form of mathematics, while allowed, is highly discouraged in GT!

That is absolutely false! An urban legend! Any and all discussions are welcomed in game threads as long as it's not overly ... overboard and not constant ranting and name calling. But math is allowed!

I am still trying to figure out why the 15th pitch was needed...

Last i checked, 2x3+8x1 = 14.. No passed balls/wild pitches/stolen bases. What other reason could they have recorded more than one pitch to an at bat?
