The Mets are not trading away one of those pitchers to be replaced with Berrios.

 

Polanco, Reed, and Garver for Plawecki and a mid-tier prospect could work (Eudor Garcia?),

The only way it happens is if the Mets are still feeling a severe financial pinch, and want to trade away the starter with the most service time (Harvey I believe) before he gets expensive, and cycle in a new high-ceiling starter with no service time to replace him. That can't be one for one, so additional talent is required, e.g. Dozier. And I'm not sure the Twins go for that, but then adding a catcher on the Mets' end requires more from the Twins, and I'm not sure Hicks is enough. All in all it seems hard to match up, even if the Mets are motivated. And I doubt they are.

Better look at different team to try and trade with, this one (or any one with Mets) is not gonna happen. Even without re-signing Cespedes they are full in the OF. Flores and Tejada can handle 2B and SS. And C isn't a position of excess talent in their system.

The Mets have a very good trade asset in young catching. Few teams have a similar asset. If they move Plawecki, it will be in a move that clearly makes next year's team better. They can do better for next year than a middle infield prospect with little time above AA. If they want to move Plawecki, they will have plenty of teams interested.

 

They are losing Murphy. If they want a veteran they can look to Zobrist and Desmond. If they want to go with an unproven prospect, they have a younger prospect with better rankings in Dilson Herrera. Trading for Polanco makes little sense for the Mets. Dozier is the only fit if they can't get one of the free agents and want to go with a veteran.

The Mets are a good trade partner in that they lack a true CF with Lagares not being the same player he was 2 years ago (injuries).  However, I don't think they would bite for Dozier because of their MIers are more 2nd basement then shortstops.  If we hope to get a combination of a catcher (Plawecki more likely then D'Arnourd) and one of their top tier Pitchers (I believe it'll be Harvey that'll be the one to go if anyone) it'll have to be one of our OFers.  Hicks and prospects wont get that done.  It'd have to be either Buxton (with low tier prospects) or Kepler (with mid tier prospects...think Jay, Meyer or Gonsalves).  Idk if the twins would get that done but you have to trade good players to get good players.

I'd love to trade for a Mets starter, any of them, but their demands would no doubt be painful.

The mets aren't going to break up that rotation anytime soon, and if they were it would be for a guy who projects to be a 2 or 3 like Berrios or an average CF like hicks.

 

If you want any of those young pitchers the offer needs to start with Sano or Buxton.

I think a trade for Plawecki would be nice.  Great defensively but not so good offensively.  He would be a better hitter than Stuart Turner.  I am not sure why the Mets would trade Plawecki.  No thanks on D'Arnaud.  The Royals showed how a poor throwing catcher can be a significant liability during the post season.

The thing is you need to make trades of prospects for players or players for players. Teams rarely trade prospects for prospects.
