Just don't understand.

Why did the twins not put up a few of our starting pitchers in a trade?

With 7 SP, I would think we would have been willing to try and make room on our rotation and also cap space. Big deals for average, and no room for our up and coming, I still do not understand this move, or lack thereof.

The only trade-able starters I see are Pelfrey and Milone. (Gibson and May are under control and young, Nolasco is a salary dump waiting to happen)

The Twins insist on keeping Pelfrey in the rotation even though he's not that great and there are better options... I guess it's because he's a veteran. I would have moved him to the bullpen, but trading him away would be nice, too.

However, I'd keep Milone for now. He's pitching pretty well and I'd ride that out. Not sure if he'd get anything on the trade market anyways.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say there is no market for Pelfrey.  I see him being a late August dump for a PTBNL.  I would say Milone probably has some value.  He has pitched well and is left handed and is cheap, but don't see why the Twins would be in a rush to deal him.

If Pelfrey has no value, why is he starting on a team that has May and Berrios available?

While I disagree with the strategy, my guess is that the front office thought a month's worth of starts would establish some trade value for him. And the plan was to re-assess after July 31, either because they traded him or the attempt was over. It's July 31 now, so we'll see if this is right.

Well, trades still do happen in August. Reasonable chance Pelfrey clears waivers, I'd think. But if someone has a starter get hurt, might still happen.

My question is what makes you think they weren't available to trade? After reading some of the comments from various GMs, the trade market seemed to be a tough one and there were several clubs not able to get things done as they wanted. We sometimes forget that there are 29 teams with assets available too. And I agree that August could very well see more trades of some of these players

every year that TR completely underwhelms at the deadline, people point to August.  August, where he has also completely underwhelmed.

Has the FO made any comments the past week about Palfrey? Just curious if they have been called out on him still being in the rotation, and what their reaction was/would be. I never thought keeping him in the rotation was to hope he builds trade value, as no team is that dumb. Why would a team in contention be trying to trade a SP, unless they didn't think he was very good. He had no trade value, and was not going to gain any.

There is no longer any reason at all to still have Palfrey in the rotation. Get him out if we are serious about a playoff push. Bring up Berrios to the rotation, or Berrios to the pen and May back to the rotation. Palfrey can be long relief. Palfrey doesn't even have a good skill set for 7th or 8th inning work, as he has the lowest k/9 of any qualified SP in the MLB.

Again, just curious if they have been called out on this or have made any comments on Pelfrey being his normal self the past month.
