This doesn't end well for the 25 man. A case can be made for everyone but Boyer to stay.

If you are going to knock off someone, you could take off Wheeler who fell down the charts a bit and wouldn't be claimed. I wouldn't be surprised if some team grabbed Thielbar. A cheap lefthander with contract control. The bigger question is who the Twins send off the 25-man roster. Or do they go to an enlarged bullpen. 

 

Sad that with all the talk of teams wanting relief pitchers that there was no interest in any Twin not named Perkins.

 

And, seriously, if you aren't going to bring them to the majors, why are you protecting Achter, Tonkin, Darnell, Thompson. If these guys are going to bypassed anyways, let's see the guys who will be doing the bypassing.

I think May gets optioned and goes back to starting.  He was already optioned this year, so it's not burning an extra one, and he's really not being used well in the pen.

 

Side note, I wonder if Boyer has some incriminating photos on someone...

Boyer's got a 2.74 ERA! He's one of the best relievers on the team!

 

I'm obviously joking here. I can't tell you why. I guess it's because he's a veteran and has a nice story and was torrid in May. He's clearly cooked but the staff won't say goodbye until after the season's over. This situation reminds me of Jeff Gray in 2012, Josh Roenicke in 2013, and Jared Burton in 2014.

I would send Santana down.  Give Polanco his shot.  When Plouffe comes back, Robinson should be DFA'd.  He hasn't really done anything to warrant it, but I think Boyer has a better chance of helping us down the stretch than Robinson, especially since Santana, Buxton, and Arcia are a phone call away.

I'm a bit concerned, as he's always had good numbers in the majors... well, if you're looking at ERA, that is. However, he gives up too many hits and not enough strikeouts. He's struggling at AAA with walks and Ks now.

 

O'Rourke is a better LOOGY, at least if he continues his SSS, so I'm not too worried about it.

I didn't say I liked the move...  but yeah, Brock might have to beef up that capacity.  I could see a riot here and it would be justified.

If he gets picked up by someone at this point, oh well.  He will be 29 this off season, he's walking as many as he is striking out this year in AAA (which is 5 per 9 both ways), he wouldn't be a loss as far as I'm concerned.

Why wouldn't he? He's a lefty under team control. That means that the Jepsen trade will likely end up costing us three players, plus the $5million or so he is owed through the end of next season.
