guy on 2B and no one on  1B, walk Hicks to set up force at 3B, 2B and 1B, and Mauer delivered.  Good strategy (regardless of the batter), didn't work out

doesn't matter.  Still set up a force at all the bases in case of ground ball the 3rd out could be recorded at any base (excluding home for those who like to call that a base).  It was good strategy no matter who the batter is, not an indictment of Mauer.  And it didn't work, cause Mauer made him pay anyway.
