Thompson and Boyer

are 1-2 in the AL in appearances.

I have a problem with this is so many ways.

One would think an improved rotation and a more concerted effort to use Perkins in the highest leverage situations would have prevented this.

It's almost like there's still a pitch count and hard and fast closer role.

I understand Thompson but why Boyer? Boyer has played in a lot of games and produced positive results. I have no problem with that.

Also, lets not confuse appearances with innings pitched. Boyer is 25th for relievers in that regard and Thompson is 74th.

Thompson either has gone cold or is fried. I thought the same thing was happening to Boyer, but then he seemed to pick it up again. As observed by others, their innings aren't that high, but their number of appearances is ruthless. Thompson seems to be suffering from it. Boyer is holding on, barely.

They would be much higher if they could get anyone out.

Seriously, Duensing has been dreadful this season but please bring him in over Thompson.

Fear no more, Thompson was just optioned.

O'Rourke has 18 ks in 30 pa against lefties in Rochester. Certainly worth a look. Let Rogers keep starting.

O'Rourke up. He would fill the 40th roster spot, I believe?

Rogers will likely never be a MLB starter, but let the winnowing out, LHRP tryouts begin without him for now.    I suspect that Duensing will eventually blow up like Thompson.  And then Darnell will get his shot, if not beforehand should O'Rourke falter.

I agree on Rogers and also the winnowing process.

Duensing has already blown up and been put back together again. Been pitching OK recently (8 straight scoreless) but a blow up is likely coming again. I think at that point it will be Rogers vs. Darnell.

If it was my choice, Rogers would've been converted at least 6 weeks ago.

You don't need two Loogys on a team. Hopefully Rourke fills that role and Rogers can eventually be a ML starter (fallback as a LOOGY)

This team now just needs a shut down 8th inning type, maybe May can be that this rest of this year, but I would be looking to bring in one of chapman (cost prob too much), papelbon or clippard.

It's really too bad the twins have failed to bring Neshek back home the last 3-4 years and chances they have had. Of course he is going no where now as he is once again on one of the best teams in baseball.

IMO, Rogers should be here as a RP, probably better than just a LOOGY. No surprise, but I'll reference the Cardinals and their approach to developing pitchers........I am just glad they are doing something here, and not sitting back.

The thing I don't get..,.was the decision always "use him in extremely high leverage situations" or "option him"? Don't get me wrong--glad he is gone....I just wish it didn't take costing games to realize his ineffectiveness.

Was it the hair?
