DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 No excuse. The all star game break is in 5 days, their is zero reason why hunter and Mauer should have both been sitting today. Chalk up another loss on Molly. That's 4.
jimmer Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 How many wins does he have?HE doesn't have any. HE hasn't played for years. Team DID have a great month of May though. that's for sure. Then June happened. Does he get just as much blame for the losses in June as he gets credit for the wins in May?
Andrew Provisional Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 It's a little inexcusable to bench 2 of your best bats on a weak hitting team while you're facing Cueto in the rubber match of the series.

Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 You know who the real loser is in all this? The fans. Am I right you guys?

I wasn't claiming he should get all the credit for the wins or losses. The original post suggests that Molly is responsible for 4 losses - I was wondering if he is similarly responsible for some number of wins?
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I can understand resting Hunter, after a long night. At his age, you have to know that's going to be necessary when you sign him...so you have a plan to account for that. I don't understand why Joe Mauer, in his early 30's, playing first base, needs the day off. Although, it's not like you're taking a dangerous bat out of the lineup. I also don't understand why Hicks wasn't back up for this series. There isn't any reason why they HAVE to keep playing infielders in the OF.

stringer bell Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 The benching of Mauer today is odd, especially with Hunter and Suzuki logically given days off. If they were going to hit for Vargas anyway, there was no reason not to switch Mauer for him. I thought it was a done deal that Hicks would be recalled. Guess not.

Are you still counting the game when he pinch hit for Milone with Nunez as a loss?
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 The all star break is in 12 daysuhhh oops Still though, this lineup was a disaster waiting to happen.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 At this point, talking about tomorrow's lineup may be a whole heck of a lot more interesting.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I get it, throw in your "Day game after a night game" cliché here, but that was a AAA lineup out there today. All of our "banked" wins in May are dwindling away...
Rosterman Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Sometimes they don't even try to win. What a lineup!

Completely agree that it's hard to see why Mauer would need the day off when Hunter is sitting too, But to me the most important question about the lineup today is not "Why sit both Hunter and Mauer?". To me the real question is "How many teams with realistic hopes to contend are in trouble on any given day because their lineup is without both a 39 year old outfielder and a first baseman with a .370 slugging percentage?".
