ESPN Power Ranking 1 June 2015

The big thing that keeps coming to me is that there is really no great teams right now.  Washington should be and St Louis might be but both are in the NL.

Who are the best teams in the AL?  Astros?  They're a bigger surprise than us.  Royals are legitimately good.  Tigers should be better but they certainly aren't great.  The entire AL East is a mess.  Seattle is probably the most disappointing team, unless it's the Angels.

So I think a big part of our success may just be that there isn't a lot of difference between the middle 10 teams in the AL. Every team has problems and some of those problems are huge.

one thought - I instinctively scrolled all the way to the bottom of the page first and then back up- that's where I grew accustomed to finding the Twins on ESPN lists. So, it was nice to see that I can probably try to break that habit for awhile.

Tough to make the Top 5. Astros just making it after dominating the AL West for the entire season .

Good news that Twins are at home for most of June - so plenty of reason for optimism heading toward the halfway point.

Would love to follow up sweep of Bosox by taking 3 of 4 at Fenway.

Seems to be on par at this point to how the nation thinks of our team. In the limited coverage I've seen on Baseball Tonight & SportsCenter, no one knows what to think of the hot month of May. I keep hearing what an amazing turn of events, but not a lot of believers yet. Another good month of June should have more people jumping on the bandwagon.

Anybody can do power rankings whether they know what they are doing or not. They are highly subjective. Every entity doing them has a different method of determining them. They have no bearing whatsoever on official MLB procedures and policies. And that's why they don't mean anything.

Fox sports does one based on baseball prospectus playoff odds. Twins are 16 with I think it was 20 percent odds of making the playoffs.

Not sure what the methodology is.

Do any of the advanced sites try any numbers-based power rankings? I'd be curious to see someone take a shot at that.

That's what Fangraphs' BaseRuns standings are, for all intents and purposes.

Yeah, I know that's the counting version but I was curious if anyone broke it down week by week with a few sentences of analysis to go with it. You know, kind of like what ESPN, CBS, et al do every week... Except not arbitrary and stupid.
