Curtright: Berrios is a complete pitcher

I'm very excited about this guy. He shows a lot of maturity for a man his age and has realistic expectations about his goals.

Every time I read something about him, I like him more.  Skeptical he makes the majors by 21, given that this is 2 weeks away, but I really admire his character.  I hope he's an ace in MN for many years to come.

Unless their are some trades / injuries the 2016 starting rotation is going to be a logjam

Based on early 2015 results the following guys are going to be in the mix:

Nolasco

Santana

Berrios

Gibson

May

Meyer

Rogers

Milone

Dean

Duffey

Baxendale

Wimmers

12 guys

5 spots

And maybe ONLY 2-3 bad contracts blocking anyone.

Hughes?

Outside of the fact you missed Hughes,  Dean, Rogers, Baxendale and Wimmers are not likely to be candidates in 2016.  Some of these could be traded this year for upgrades - bullpen and catcher.  Too early to tell, but next spring training should be interesting.  I would like to see the Twins trade a few of these and some other assets for an ace.  Might not happen, but that should be the next step.

Ahhh...the old too much talent problem.  When we have an excess of quality MLB pitching, standing around waiting for starts, I'll worry about this problem.

and most of those guys in the minors have better stats than Berrios at this point.

something tells me there will be some trades at one point.  You can have a guy like Rogers come up and do well in an injury situation and then flip him the next year for prospects if there's no room.  That's what I would do at least.

I'm not ready to believe in Pat Dean yet and Wimmers hasn't done anything to prove that he belongs in the majors. I don't see Milone having a future with the team at all to be honest. I think Baxendale, Berrios, and Duffey will belong in AAA next year, to begin the season at least.

I think Rogers can continue to be successful and Meyer will start to figure things out soon so those two could be knocking on the door.

That leaves-

Hughes

Nolasco

Gibson

Santana

May

Meyer

Rogers

You are correct that a few of those guys really don't have a realistic shot, even though they are pitching well. (But I defer to the people who actually observe these guys rather than read the stat lines.)

In terms of winning a spot on your 2016 rotation list, I'd bet Berrios is ahead of Meyer. The Twins probably still want Milone on that list too. When Berrios is eventually promoted to somewhere, I think you might see Chih-Wei Hu promoted to Chattanooga--another guy to keep an eye on.

I wish I had the focus and determination he has when I was 20 years old.  Actually, come to think of it I was very determined to find someone to me beer on the weekends.  But outside of that, I wish I had more.  This kid has a bright future and I hope to see him at Target Field by the end of this season, because once he gets a taste of it I think he has the mentality and mindset make sure he never gets sent back.

I really don't understand this worry about having too many pitchers for 2016.  That is a weak list on the proven quality side of the equation and injuries frequently happen.  I'm still at the point where the Twins don't have enough GOOD pitching.

Berrios is standing out compared to Stewart and Meyer.  They have tantalizing potential and have been similarly ranked but Berrios has the better combination of interesting stuff (even if it is crazy awesome) and being able to use it effectively (this is perhaps an understatement).

Hughes

Gibson

May

Santana

Nolasco (good lord)

Meyer

Berrios

Rogers

Are you reinforcing the weakness of the list?
