gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Walker is DHing and batting 6th today for the Twins. It's normal for the Twins (and other teams) to bring minor leaguers to games to come in late innings, but Walker has now started twice in the last 3-4 games. Good for him, I hope he does well.
TRex Provisional Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Anybody else really excited to see that Walker hit a double off Tanaka, who throws multiple above-average breaking-balls?
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Anybody else really excited to see that Walker hit a double off Tanaka, who throws multiple above-average breaking-balls? Coming off of 0-2 and then 1-2 counts, and then crushed a low and away breaker.,, gotta like that.

Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 BTW - I love Travis Harrison as well. I'm expecting a huge year from him. really like Harrison, but he is not there yet. I think he will be a late bloomer like Dozier. You look at players like Walker and Kepler and they filled up. Harrison (and Michael and Buxton) still look like kids (like Dozier did at that turn of his career as well...) Not going to be a 30 HR monster (this season). Really.
lightfoot789 Verified Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Harrison has incredibly quick hands. When he crushes the ball - it is crushed. He will hit at least 15+ this year. IMO Great line drive hitter. Will pay off in the smaller parks of the Southern League.

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 His home run tonight was an absolute blast.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 That was a ridiculous bomb. I really enjoyed getting to see him play tonight. Also, I liked how the Twins kept the 9th alive so we saw Kanzler, Vielma, and Mejia as well!

Love the comment by the announcer after he touches home plate. (listen)

Tibs Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Dang, that pitch got out of the park in a hurry. Didn't Walker hit a homerun in his only spring training game last year?
jimbo92107 Verified Member Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I watched Walker bang his homer in the eighth against Boston, and his swing reminded me a lot of Chili Davis, the great switch hitter. Same kind of wrist action, same kind of explosion off the bat. This Walker kid could be dynamite. How's his defense?
B Richard Provisional Member Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I for one am bearish on Walker's future. I've read multiple scouts from BP say that he has some pretty serious issues picking up spin and tracking breaking balls. Of course, the man can hit a fastball a country mile, but that alone will not guarantee MLB success. From everything I've gathered, it's difficult to improve pitch recognition skills significantly as you climb the ladder-- it's really more of a neurological thing. I'm not a professional, of course, but here's what Baseball Prospectus' Jeff Moore has to say about Walker after scouting him: "Jeff Moore: Saw a ton of Adam Brett Walker this year and he was one of my favorite players to watch. That's not an endorsement of him as a prospect. It's just because he gives exactly zero craps about trying to do anything other than hit a fastball as far as is humanly possible. He has great raw power, and I saw him square a few up and man were they fun to watch. I also saw him take the same aggressive swing and miss breaking balls by about 10 feet. Ultimately, I'm not sure the power ends up playing enough at higher levels because of the swing and miss and issues identifying breaking balls, but 25 home runs in the FSL is a major accomplishment. At the very least, he's fun to watch, and he has enough power that he could end up being a nice platoon bat." For what it's worth, Moore rated Walker's defense as league average in the future, 50/80 on the scouting scale. That's probably a little more insightful than what most of the posters here will tell you.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 VargasesqueNot true, but definitely not above average.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Walker just crushed two into the street today, the first off Pelfrey and the second off May.
lightfoot789 Verified Member Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 9 Home Runs during this 2015 spring training (AA / AAA / MLB) I also heard he had about 10+ doubles during the spring. Not bad for the 18 to 20 games they played. Also not bad for a guy who bats 7th in a loaded Chattanooga line up. They will be fun to watch. Including the 2 today off Pelfrey and May.
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I guess that's one way to raise the BA and cut down on the SO: just belt everything out of the park!
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 what was it, two years ago I think that Terry Ryan told me Walker has more power than anyone on the team. It sure would be nice to see him pick up other parts of the game and make it to the bigs.
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Walker just crushed two into the street today, the first off Pelfrey and the second off May. Erghhh, I can't decide for sure... Is this good news or bad news??
Bob Sacamento Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Erghhh, I can't decide for sure... Is this good news or bad news??Well Pelfrey gave up four homers in the first inning or two: Walker, Buxton, Gonzales, and Harrison...The good news is after the Harrison hit he didn't give up another so there's that at least. But the AA lineup was lighting up his FB 91-93mph that looked flat.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Tweet from Mike Berardino this morning: Terry Ryan on Adam Brett Walker: "He has severe power. Might have the best power in this organization." Maybe Miguel Sano, but I would say that is it.
GMinTraining Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I hope the two of them feed off each other in Chattanooga. Nothing like a little in house competition that ends with winning being the ultimate goal. DANGEROUS DUO Do players protect each other in minor league line ups too? If one doesn't blast you - The next guy will!!! Both are bound to see more fastballs with the likes of Buxton and Polanco on base in front of them. Or Chattanooga will turn into "Stolen Base City".

Minor leagues are for development. I get that they guys want to win the games, but it's all about developing skills. Personally, I hope ABW doesn't see very many fastballs. I want him seeing a steady diet of curves until he figures out how to lay off the ones out of the zone and punish the ones in the zone.
