I see that the Marlins are pursuing Justin Morneau from the Rockies to play first base. Is there  any chance the Twins could get in that mix and bring bak the forme MVP Morneau back to the Twin cities.

He has 2015 and 2016 mutual option and his contract prices are reasonable dollars wise. Could move

Joe Mauer to left field and put Moneau back in a sanwich of Hunter and Mauer with Vargas and Aricia to back him up. Would a package of outfielder Aaron Hicks, catcher Josmil Pinto and pither Logan Darnell or lefthander  Milone  be enough to get Morneau back to the Twins? Boosts offense and Mauer is good enough athlete he could compete for the left field spot. This is assuming you have Santana back in center field, nd Excobar or Polanco at short stop until 

Buton is ready to join the major league roster.

Is there any chane the Twins could interest the Marlins in Chris Parmalee for perhaps a class A pitcher and or some international bounus cap money.

Would that type of move get us to compete for a division title in 2015? And what would be the long term advantage of that?

Can we just trade Mauer for Morneau?

Not specifically at jaimedude, but goodness, we want to improve the defense by putting a 32-year old who has played nine innings in the outfield in his career in left field?  Fagetaboutit.  I think the prudent thing is to leave Mauer alone and see if he can be a top quartile first baseman for the duration of his contract.  The club need more athletes and youth, not adding decline-phase hit first (or only) first basemen and corner outfielders.

Dillon Gee?  No thanks.  6ish K/9 and sliding over the past 3 years, same with K/BB.  Only 1 season with >1 WAR.  Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't seem like an upgrade from where I'm sitting.  Certainly wouldn't part with Santana to get him.

I am hoping we get Neshek on a 2 or 3 year deal.  That's a worthwhile reunion.  Neshek and a starting pitcher, they'll probably get either Vogelsong or Volquez.  I would be open to a trade if there is a salary dump to be had.  The ideal pitcher is one who is here on a 1 year contract as we have several pitchers who will be ready and the free agent market will be huge next year.  That would satisfy me that the Twins are trying to be competitive next season while the younger talent arrives. 

 

Note I am note endorsing the Twins sign the V starting pitchers just that's who they are targeting.  I prefer someone on a short term contract that can pitch 200 innings.  I would be upset if the Twins go for less.  I am tired of the Dumpster Diving.

Jamie, I would argue that every first baseman is hit first.  Morneau had a fine year in the rarified air of Denver, but I doubt he will sustain it.  In addition, he's got a cranky back and quite an injury history besides the concussions and he'll play most of 2015 at 34.  Mauer is under contract for four more years.  Get used to him at first base.

Angels interested in Escobar. They're willing to trade Wilson to free up some cash. Twins need pitching. There's something possibly worth building around there.
