Pitching Coaches

Who are the pitching coach candidates worth talking about?

Curt Young, the pitching coach for the A's, has been brilliant in his time with the A's. I don't think the Twins will be stealing him anytime soon. So lets get into more reasonable candidates.

Brad Arnsberg. In 2011 was a fall-guy for a goofy Astros front office. He openly argued with the GM in a dugout (I couldn't find the details about it). Credited for many success stories in his time there, especially working with young players and turning Bret Myers career around.

Rick Rodriguez. A pitching coach for the A's in the minors, he has been in the organization and got to work with Rick Peterson (pitching coordinator Baltimore now) and Beane. Seems like he'd be a good fit for the job.

Past Twins stars. Circle me Bert, Viola, Morris... Any of those guys could be on the Twins list for potential hires. I think we'll have to see who gets hired as manger first, but I wont count out obscure former Twins as candidates.

I would think that Cuellar or possibly some of our own MiL pitching coaches might be considered also.  Personally, I'd like to have Cuellar.

My choices would be 1) Carl Willis and 2) Eddie Guardado.

The Big Train had 3 Cy Young winners in his tenure as Cleveland and Seattle pitching coach - King Felix, Cliff Lee, and CC Sabathia.

It really doesn't have to be an ex-Twin.  Pitching coach is probably the one position on the coaching staff that could have a real impact on the team's results this season.  I'm sure that any managerial candidate has a short list of pitching coaches he wants if he gets a job.

Yeah, that's why I don't want it to be an ex-Twin.  And this is why the manager hire is so important -- probably shouldn't default to ex-Twins there either.

Sorry, had the manager post on my mind when i read this. I have heard Pat Hentgen mentioned in ties with Molitor. Other than that, i don't have any clue. I'd probably look to an organization known for it's pitching and go from there.

Dr Marshall has been pushing his ideas to all who would listen for many many years now.  He has had lots of young pitchers come to him, and I think if he had some magic touch there would be more success stories by now.
