Olbermann: Firing Gardenhire a "cowardly act" by Ryan

To be fair, Olberman was simply quoting Will Carroll, and Carroll was the one who said "Coward".  This reaffirms what I think about him, which is that he's a moron and likes pretending he's in the know.

He followed this twit with another that says he thinks Steinbach is likely to get the MIN job, and one more where he has no idea who might be hired in AZ.  (Hint: half of the 89 OAK team has been hired in AZ within the past six months. If Terry S is getting a managing gig he'll be closer to the front of the line down there where Tony LaRussa and Dave Stewart are hiring. Molitor is ahead of him in MIN.)

To quote the great Earl Weaver " We gave him more chances than my first wife"  Silly comment by KO.

I don't know, somehow the guys yelling the opposite yet equally or more extreme rubbish keep their shows for decades.

Not to derail the thread too much, but the difference is people yell rubbish against the other "side" also balance that with many good things for their own "side".

Olbermann has no "base" of support in that his schtick will be entirely on criticizing everything. Works for a season but eventually people get bored with it. Lots of "I like Olbermann but this time..." will eventually just become "I'm bored with Olbermann". He is a smart and talented guy, I'll be curious to see if he can adjust.

In related news, Olberman calls out Lassie for not being loyal to Timmy

Olbermann's a cat person anyway. Because loyalty.

I doubt he lasts another year. People like rants but too much with no balance wears you out.

I don't know doc. You can make up for a lot of unfairness if you can come across as hateful and mean spirited.

Not quite. Will Carroll had the shot about loyalty. Olbermann added "Cowardly act, Twins" to his original tweet.

The rest of post - pretty spot on. Looks like he (Carroll) just throws stuff out there to see what sticks.

Not an Olberman fan, but I see him as no different than most other national media talking heads. It's not important to them that the Twins or Royals or Reds or Rockies or anyone else in "flyover country" have competitive sports teams.

Not loyal? My goodness, what must Olberman have thought of Steinbrenner? If you arent a NY or Calif franchise, you're supposed to just settle for occasional accidental streaks of competitiveness. Only in a major market is winning supposed to be part of the expectation set of a coach or manager.

The Twins are a business, just as the Yankees and Dodgers are. Changing managers, at this time, was necessary. I do not believe it was easy, Seth. I believe it was a hard decision for all involved. But it was the right decision, at this time.

Doing what so many people seem to be telling you to do at the top of their lungs isn't always the easy thing. It also isn't always the right thing. But this time, it was.

Cowardly?  Unloyal?  Try "long overdue".  Did not hear anything from Olbermann saying that the Red Sox were Unloyal to Francona or the like for example.

That said, less than a month ago, Ryan said publicly that "as long as I am the general manager, Gardenhire will be the manager".   Makes me think that he might resign one of these days to stay true to his words.

I think we're being fed horse manure. My best advice: ignore the guy; no attention = no bucks = no Buck Rogers.

On the other hand, this man is well worth listening to. The Olberman's of the world should heed the advice.

Olbermann probably couldn't name more than 5 Twins without looking at a roster list, the guy is a bandwagon critic.

i bet you might be surprised...

I guess I must have turned the channel before they started talking about positive things. I thought the difference was the demographic Olbermann thinks he caters to don't care to watch blowhards rant all day.

Its almost as if they're all buttering each other's bread.

He's going the be the next target for ownership if he hires the wrong manager. I don't see it ever reaching that point though.

Then none of them should be surprised to find it's not butter but spittle from the other guy's plosive consonants being screamed at full force.

Disagree 100% he is a huge baseball fan and very knowledgeable.

If he was a bandwagon critic he probably wouldn't have been commenting on the Twins firing a manager who had lost 90 games 4 years in a row.

I don't like his politics and I think he sometimes (OK, frequently) says outrageous things just to be outrageous, but he's been around sports long enough to know a thing or two.

(I can't believe I'm defending Olbermann.)

Ok, fair enough, you're right but the point really was about how completely out of touch the comment was. It's actually more disappointing considering how knowledgeable Olbermann is.
