I didn't watch much of the football game, but didn't see all of the Twins game either.  I saw that May allowed four straight guys to reach (two runs), but then struck out the side.  I saw the last two strikeouts and he was throwing mid-90s heat on the corners, a nice curve and changeup.  Very impressive!

Fred Gwynne for next Twins Manager! 2015! oh I mean Gene Glynn not Fred Gwynne...

Minnesota sports... *sigh*

Remember the episode when Herman and Grandpa show up at a Dodgers practice and Herman creams the ball and they want to sign him up. No idea how it ends. Featured real Dodgers.

May seems to be improving.

This is all I was looking for, tbh.  While yeah, you want the guy to come up and be an 'instant sensation,' it's just not a practical outlook.  Seeing improvement is what gives me hope to the season he could have next year.

Gotta love the run scored by Schafer this inning.  The Twins haven't had a guy like that in ....forever.  Good speed (Hicks, even Span) is overrated, but game-changing speed like Schafer (maybe Revere) is underrated I think.

Keep singing the Schafer song... I've got your flank. :)

Ever since Delmon and slow footed Willingham, I just think it's nice to have someone with speed and a glove out there.

How did May look? Better than Cassel, sure, but was the FB finally fast?

I heard someone reference mid-90s, which is promising. Anyone else watch the gun consistently?

Anecdotal, but it looked like his fastball got stronger as the game went on.

Pitchf/x had his 4-seam at an average of 93.5, topping out at 95.9.

As if Fred Gwynne would ever considering managing the Twins after he discovered there was a TwinsDaily game thread that thought Morticia Adams was hotter than Lily Munster.  His death would also interfere, although that might not be a barrier for Herman Munster.

I think the Twins helped me be fairly non-emotional about the Vikings today.  I have seen my fill of painful losses this summer, and might be a little emotionally dead.  That, and I think all of the off-field stuff is starting to effect how I feel about the NFL.

This was the first game where May, finally, looked like the "power pitcher" that was advertised.  In the middle innings especially, his FB was consistently hitting 94-95, mixed with some frequently devastating breaking and off-speed stuff.  Very encouraging outing, very different pitcher-

-19 of 23 faced w/ first strikes thrown

-only 1 batter got to a 3 ball count

-Two separate runs of 4 straight batters struck out on swinging strike three

May seems to be improving.  Perhaps all we needed was some patience.

Or maybe "less patience"? as in, why wasn't he called up sooner....?  He just as easily could have had his 6 mediocre-bad-horrendous outings starting in mid-June.... and then been well on the way to how he pitched today, only by the All Star game break, or say.\, July 14, instead of September 14.  (We'd sure have a more definitive idea on whether or not he not he has earned a 2015 rotation slot and how well he might do).
