sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 When's the last time a team got two outs in the same inning on a tag at home? Don't know. (and am too lazy to research) but it is an interesting question. I believe the first one (Punto) was a little deceptive, as the announcers said Lowrie got caught off first, and somewhere in that rundown, Punto broke for home, and they threw it in to stop the run, and Punto stayed in a rundown long enough for all runners to move up, at which point he was run back to 3rd by Pinto. (And i just thought it fun to say Pinto tags Punto with, um the ball, in the conservatory...) But yeah, you can't tell that from the box score.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 DickNBert have going full-force with that narrative during Punto's at-bats. Punto put a spell on the entire organization.Figured they would, but thanks for confirming it. Takes away some of the disappointment of missing the first half of the game.
mikeee Provisional Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 DickNBert have going full-force with that narrative during Punto's at-bats. Punto put a spell on the entire organization. And he still has a .214 average....
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Punto broke for home while Mauer was actually looking at him from first. Totally bad baserunning.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 This is the kind of offense I expected we'd have. Now if the pitchers would get to what I expected.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Man, just 3 hits and one run. Whatever happened to homefield advantage?
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 ... 6 runs in less than 3 outs... can we do it?!
sandbun Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 It's going to be hard day for those of us fighting the Mauer overrated crowd after this game.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Punto broke for home while Mauer was actually looking at him from first. Totally bad baserunning. That, or bad coaching. However unlikely, it's possible that Gallego told Punto, "See if you can find a spot that you can't score from, and also can't safely return to third from!" Had to laugh when I saw the play, because it was the perfect mirror image of the trademark Punto fake hustle play, 'running out the fly ball'. Which is great, unless you do it the Punto way. At least once a week you'd see him running hard for the next base after hitting a fly, and ending up in exactly the wrong place when the catch was made. Less than half way, full throttle, head down, virtually guaranteeing that if the fielder were to muff the catch he'd just get thrown out sliding head first when the fielder or another one backing him up recovered it. Good to see that even long after his departure from the Twins, all those lessons at the Yasiel Puig's Dad Baserunning Academy are still paying off for Li'l Nick.

Boom Boom Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Pelf will be OK once he completely recovers from TJ surgery.
twinscowboysbulls Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Pelf will be OK once he completely recovers from TJ surgery. Agreed, Pelf is a full year recovered now, but wait until he is 2 full years recovered. I'm salivating over how healthy his elbow will be for 2015.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 May have to avoid the game thread tomorrow night. Not sure I can stomach the virtual certainty that someone will lament the Twins' failure to sign Bruce Chen...
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Wait until they face Ervin Cy Santana in intergleague, LaBombo.....
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 ... 6 runs in less than 3 outs... Can we do it?! Not this time i guess... Anyhow, Thanks all for the company!
steve Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 This was the first game I attended this year. It was just as I remember them from last year.
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 (And i just thought it fun to say Pinto tags Punto with, um the ball, in the conservatory...) It's nice to come back and read a post from someone who has a Clue.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 This was the first game I attended this year. It was just as I remember them from last year. That's because Pelf was pitching. It's a totally different vibe now with Nolasco or Hughes on the mound.
