  1. Perhaps they tried to change too much with Martin and Blaze... Perhaps they should let them go back to maximizing their natural talents. Perhaps Martin will never have power but be a monster OBP/Ave at the top of the order with Arraez (driving pitch counts up and SP out early). Perhaps Blaze should let go of whatever they 'had him working on at the end of last season', get out of his head and go back to pitching to his strengths. ... Perhaps
  2. My hope was already at the bottom of the lake next to the old coke can and rusted anchor....
  3. Lee's rapid ascent to AA is a bright light shining through an otherwise dark day for the Twins
  4. I want the 'rehabbing Twins' to make sure they are absolutely right before returning. There is absolutely NO reason to rush them back and risk further injury for this season. The goal should be to be as best positioned as possible going into a 2023 that holds promise IMO as the younger core matures.
  5. Twins were and are tremendous lucky to have him as part of the organization. He earned every penny and absolutely could have gotten more. Don't forget that he sold plenty of tickets for the owners as a true hometown hero in addition to what he 'earned' through his elite performance.
  6. Yaaaaaawwwwn..... We beat a AAAA team with nothing to play for which is simply holding serve. If we win 4/5 against Cleveland, optimism can creep back in. Sadly, I don't see that happening against a real MLB team with something to play for....but I hope that I'm waaaaay wrong! And where the hell was THIS Correa for the last months.... it certainly would have helped for him to turn on the light switch before contract push time
  7. A simple thought exercise... Would any other MLB team be excited to swoop Rocco up as their manager if we fired him? I strongly believe the answer is 'no.' He does not have agile and creative thinking during games that incorporates aspects that cannot be captured on spreadsheets. He also appears to have no range as a leader. Good leaders alter approach as needed based on the clubhouse atmosphere to optimize performance over a long season. He seems to relish his own 'consistent approach' Good leaders do not use one approach. My prediction: He will still be here next year and then he will be fired after next year because the FO will need to do so to save their jobs. He will then go on to manage exactly 0 more MLB teams, BUT WILL go on to be a fantastic bench coach or front office piece where a steady and methodical approach is a good thing.
  8. If the Twins could just play the Royal for each game in different cities a la the Harlem Globetrotters, we would be in GREAT SHAPE!
  9. All that's left to do is wait for the inevitable announcement of Mahler and Buxton's "Surgery/Procedure To Be Named Later" Nick.... your proposed pathway to being tied for the division lead is essentially 'showing the work' for Five-Thirty-Eight's estimated 8% chance of winning the division ?
  10. Well... that turned out to be fast end to the central division 'race' for the Twins.... If the Twins realized that their stretch run was going to be so short, do you think they would have run harder?
  11. I'm kind of in shock, because I think the bureaucracy got this one exactly right..... This is a really strange feeling....
  12. In related news.... The Baltimore Orioles now leads the Central division by 1.5 games.... There may indeed be a central division 'race' ongoing, but unfortunately it is running in the opposite direction than the other division races in the MLB
  13. Kirilloff the number one for me. The entire career is at risk now for an elite hitting talent (bone shortening is far from a guaranteed fix). Wishing him the best, but I could not be more concerned
  14. To me Gordon is the best story... persevered through chronic health issues and the burden of immense expectations to realize his potential. By all accounts, he also a sparkplug for the team. He will still need to prove that he can continue to adjust in the MLB as teams/pitchers adjust to him (with success comes greater opposition scrutiny), but his disposition makes continued sucess more likely than not. Kudos to you Mr. Gordon!
  15. Yaaaaawn.... nothing surprising or noteworthy here
  16. Congrats to Varland.... I can't imagine how special it will be for him to pitch in the MLB for his hometown team! Let's hope this is the beginning of a long run
  17. I believe the Yankees view the 'series' as more of a small speed bumb
  18. Here is the main question: What are the chances that this team could win a playoff series much less a game? To those who say "look at 1987... you never know!" I watched 1987... I know 1987.... and this is NO 1987. We had two pitchers that could dominate a playoff team on a good day (Viola and Blyleven). This team does not have any pitcher even close. That team had Kirby Puckett who could take over games at any time. This team does not have a hitter like that. The 1987 team lacked pitching depth (Les Straker as the third starter anyone?!), so MAKING it into the playoffs was the challenge but once in, they were dangerous to any team in a short series with days off.
  19. So happy for Wallner... must be really special to in front of his family and friends at AAA and hopefully eventually at MLB for years to come. His hard work is paying off and hopefully he'll join the likes of Mauer and Hrbek as a 'home-town hero!"
  20. Just checked... Yes! All three teams have enough games against other teams left that if they split the games against each other and lose the majority of their other games, we could have a Central Division winner under 0.500 It looks like there is going to be one team left out of the playoffs shaking their collective heads at the record of the Central Division "Winner" Let's Go!!!!
  21. I am too lazy to check, but is it mathematically possible for the winner of the central division to be under 0.500 with everyone playing each other in September? I hope the Twins were very confident about their due diligence on Mahle, because shoulder injuries are still a HUGE worry even with modern medical/surgical capabilities and he literally had shoulder issues less than a month before the trade. We are all guilty of Monday morning quarterbacking at times, but this would not be one of those times. As I've posted previously, I am dreading a future Thoracic Outlet Syndrome reveal.
  22. Woops... I missed the first reference to Erickson! I'll second Disco then!
  23. Scott Erickson's slider for the first half of the 1991 season was unhittable (injury issues compromised it for the rest of his career like Liriano, but like Lirano we was nearly unhittable for 1/2 season)
  24. Dear Twins FO, I hear that you have been having relief pitching issues this year in the MLB (*cough* Pagan *cough*). I think that I could help with that, and I'm not too far away, so I could get there in a jiffy if needed. Yours Truly Evan "Tisk Tisk for not trying me" Sisk
