  1. Personally, I'd like them to spend their funds elsewhere as stated.... but if another corner outfielder was really their priority.... they could have waited out the market.... who again were they 'bidding' against for this reclamation product? Even Boras knows Gallo's future is suspect. Otherwise, he would have cast the Gallo bait into deeper waters... but he knew none of those big market fish wanted anything to do with Gallo. The Twins FO was just desperate and got played badly on this one. We all may 'care' a little more about this 11 million when the bullpen is getting thrashed during the year I suspect
  2. 11 is likely 11 million more than the 0 dollars being offered by another MLB team right now Boras led the Twins around by the nose for a year on Correa to get the contract he wanted elsewhere and left the Twins with such few options that Joey Friggin' Gallo (who happened to be his client) was their next option.... so yeah... Oh and he got the Twins to give Correa the highest SS contract for a year as a holder until he could sign him a long term contract which he didn't have to share the commission with his prior representation. Boras has done just fine manipulating the Twins FO. And although he is very bright and talented. These particular moves were hardly Rocket Surgery... or Brian Science.... or.... ask the Twins FO... they'll know what I'm trying to say... One little last passing thought... If 11 million isn't all that much... please refer to a bullpen in need and not a corner outfielder glut.
  3. Don't blame you for not seeing Joey Gallo coming when you wrote this because... you know... no one trying to have a successful offseason would...
  4. For those few of you that inexplicably think this was a good signing.... Who do you think the FO was bidding against for Gallo besides a figment of Boras's imagination? What other team do you think was clamoring for his services? Above and beyond a nonsensical signing, the FO got pantsed on the contract itself. I bet you Boras is most thankful this Holiday Season for the Twins FO.
  5. Distant memories of the '87 and '91 world series? Oh wait... I can enjoy those memories from home.... never mind!
  6. This was a great signing.... Yes, this signing alone will not make a good offseason, but this was one of the better options to fill a clear need. Let's all be a happy with this!
  7. Unfortunately, comparing the contract offer to historical Twins contract offers does not matter The only comparison that matters is the contract offer to other existing contract offers for Correa.... A valiant PR effort though (We reeeeeaaaaaaaly tried this time!)
  8. Boras leaked Yankees to drive up bids. The Cubs are downplaying interest to suppress bidding war with SF. (Nobody is worried about outbidding the Twins if they are interested)
  9. Correa signed a one year deal so Boras would not have to share his commission on a 10 year deal with Correa's previous representation. It's that simple Boras will take the most guaranteed money available and only be 'creative' if he absolutely has to. An opt out in a player's mid-30s benefits the team and not the player.... so with a Boras client.... highly unlikely
  10. I don't believe the Cubs are out for one second. If there is a 'mystery team' that is the one. And actually... the fact that there has not been mention of a 'mystery team' ... which is usually leaked by Boras to get teams biding against themselves.... tells me that there is a real strong existing competition to keep Boras happy... which is of course VERY bad for the Twins
  11. It's interesting that the path may be different each off season, but we always seem to end up digging around in the SP bargain bin eventually.... sigh....
  12. Boras will have the last say as he always does (part of the understanding if he becomes a player's agent)... players take on Boras as an agent to get the most money possible (Boras is not interested otherwise). The only reason the Twins were in last year is because Boras was not willing to sign a multi-year contract because he had to share his fee with Correa's previous representation. There is no such limitation this time around Correa is going to go where his is offered the most Guaranteed money... it's that simple. It will likely not be offered by the Twins. I don't intend to piss in people's cereal but that is how Boras works and way Correa hired him.
  13. This is a big deal indeed.... great incremental improvement in the attempt to mitigate tank-o-ramas
  14. "They've basically got all they need to field a competent ballclub next year" mmmmm .... competent ballclub......mmmmmmmm Fielding a competent ballclub makes me salivate for season tickets!
  15. I think that I'm most happy that we won't have endless articles on TD about him anymore!
  16. Not a move that a team competing for a WS championship would make... or a team competing for a division title for that matter. It IS a move that someone would make to double down on a mistake trade in an effort to protect their fragile ego though
  17. It is important to remember that the only reason Correa signed a 'creative' contract with the Twins last year is because Boras was going to have to share his cut on that contract with Correa's previous representation. Part of the agreement for Boras taking on Correa is that the first deal would be short so that he wouldn't have to share as much. Boras was not going to give up half of his cut for a 300 million contract. Boras will get his full cut on this contract. There will be no more creativity.... just BIG GUARANTEED BUCKS. The highest bidder will win the day and it will not be the Twins
  18. Will Rocco be giving him scheduled days off too.... if so, we should coordinate them with Buxton's scheduled off days
  19. "You can expect Kenta Maeda, Sonny Gray, Tyler Mahle, and Joe Ryan all to be in Pete Maki’s Opening Day rotation for 2023" These are the type of assumptions that are going to get us in trouble. Mahle and Maeda are still question marks until they prove their health and after proving their health that they can return to form. Winder needs to prove health. Varland needs to prove that he can maintain success now that the MLB has seen him and has tape to study. SWR needs to prove himself at the MLB level. Ober needs to prove that he can stay healthy and on and on... If we are being honest with ourselves, we only have two clear reliable starters going into next season. If we don't want to be honest with ourselves, then we will have a fantastic offseason full of false hype followed by a disappointing actual season
  20. This. Correa was absent on offence during extended stretches when the season was on the line. His final numbers were padded by a scorching hot September when AAA pitchers were up and playing and many teams were playing out the season. He is very talented but I did not see a transcendent player worth 30-40 mil/yr. And yes we have payroll THIS year but we will need to sign pitchers after we lose a bunch to FA next year! Signing Correa this year to a bloated contract will absolutely impact our pitching in the future. Luckily, the Twins FO will figure out the exact dollar amount that will look as high as possible to the public but that he will never take, so it will look like they 'tried super hard to get him!"
  21. They should use their money elsewhere for pitching and catcher. They have to trust that an internal longe term option will be available by mid-season and not block them (I'm looking at you Lee and Lewis)
  22. In a related story... "The Twins fans double down on their process of finding something else to do outside during Twins home games."
  23. This read like an article directly commissioned by the Twins Organization which is disappointing to me coming from TD. Overconfidence, micromanaging and stubbornness have brought many leaders down over the course of history. Flavine are destined to join this group, but will hardly be noteworthy members
