  1. I'm Oberjoyed that Martin and Miranda are back in the lineup!
  2. I tend to agree... I suspect that Varland will ultimately be a valuable bullpen piece. The problem is that the offseason starting pitching 'plan' by the FO makes keeping Varland a starter this year mandatory whether it is his optimal spot or not....
  3. How many pitches did Raya through in his high school games? I suspect more than 44.... I'm all for load management but it seems extreme with Raya . I doubt they are saving inning for big league bullpen in September/October.... and at the rate the season is going that would be superfluous at this point
  4. Yikes... I'm moving toward the indifference phase with this season at an alarming rate....
  5. Buck still healthy and playing in CF the run away winner!
  6. We've got 2 over votes who must think the game is going into extra innings :)
  7. 5 hits for the Twins today.... who's got the over and under!
  8. Wow... I know others have already pointed this out.... but THAT lineup..... just WOW!
  9. Let's pump the breaks on this a bit. I'm very happy that Martin and SWR are being given a chance so that we can find out what we have..... but we are about a season of MLB caliber play away from knowing that we got any value....
  10. Losing a bunch of games hurts your playoff chances.... Hot Take?
  11. Um...yeah... better than doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results..... because that would be.....oh what's the best word for that again....
  12. Just to be clear.... while many problems have been discussed, there is ONE principle off season failure that will likely sink the season: Lack of SP depth The FO should expect to need to use at least 10 per year (8 last year and 14 in 2022). BUT, they went into the year with 2 solid question marks (maybe 3 depending on your view of Ober) in the starting rotation alone and limited proven depth in AAA. When injuries inevitably manifest, we will be in trouble. Key hitters and bullpen arms should reasonably be expected to get back and stabilize those areas. But, I just don't see a solution for SP (unless we get VERY lucky on the injury front)
  13. I think he'll warm up. I do think that one way hitters like him can have their timing and reactions on point for fastballs in April is to actually take Spring training a bit more seriously. The pendulum has swung too far in the direction of minimizing in game reps in Spring training. And being ready in April would only help player boost their stats and therefore future contracts. Current attitude towards Spring training does not make sense for player or clubs.
  14. Great thread....and enjoyable/informative read... well done everyone!
  15. Ha! Touche! I would slightly counter that there are multiple steps toward legitimacy. First you must have an extended period of production. Second, IF this is accomplished and the league gives said player more scouting attention, a player must then demonstrate the ability to adjust to the league's adjustments. Martin must be given the change to accomplish the first step. Wallner achieved the first step but is struggling with the second
  16. Make it official..... we need to let Martin have an extended period of consistent play to see exactly what we have in him.
  17. Les Straker was a 'one hit wonder,' but the vast, vast majority of baseball players in the world would have happily been a 'one hit wonder' for their careers. Him being our 3rd pitcher in the playoffs is maybe the biggest example in history of the difference between a good regular season rotation and a good playoff rotation (where you can ride 2 elite pitchers). We won the WS but were lucky to make it to the playoffs at all with a 85-77 record.
  18. Great work Matt.... a VERY enjoyable read.... I hope you keep doing this!
  19. Darn... I thought for sure that Tonkin was the answer to our problems!
