  1. I think he'll warm up. I do think that one way hitters like him can have their timing and reactions on point for fastballs in April is to actually take Spring training a bit more seriously. The pendulum has swung too far in the direction of minimizing in game reps in Spring training. And being ready in April would only help player boost their stats and therefore future contracts. Current attitude towards Spring training does not make sense for player or clubs.
  2. Great thread....and enjoyable/informative read... well done everyone!
  3. Ha! Touche! I would slightly counter that there are multiple steps toward legitimacy. First you must have an extended period of production. Second, IF this is accomplished and the league gives said player more scouting attention, a player must then demonstrate the ability to adjust to the league's adjustments. Martin must be given the change to accomplish the first step. Wallner achieved the first step but is struggling with the second
  4. Make it official..... we need to let Martin have an extended period of consistent play to see exactly what we have in him.
  5. Les Straker was a 'one hit wonder,' but the vast, vast majority of baseball players in the world would have happily been a 'one hit wonder' for their careers. Him being our 3rd pitcher in the playoffs is maybe the biggest example in history of the difference between a good regular season rotation and a good playoff rotation (where you can ride 2 elite pitchers). We won the WS but were lucky to make it to the playoffs at all with a 85-77 record.
  6. Great work Matt.... a VERY enjoyable read.... I hope you keep doing this!
  7. Darn... I thought for sure that Tonkin was the answer to our problems!
  8. Even the average NHL team has less injuries that the Twins and it is a contact sport with regular fighting!
  9. "Bailey really did his job today. He threw the ball very well." Yes Rocco....he did....right up until you pulled him after 60 some pitches in 5 innings for an injury limited bullpen with predictable results. I will give Rocco credit for remembering that Martin was on his roster today though!
  10. Sorry Nick, but when the technology is there and better.... you don't just decide to 'ignore the man behind the curtain' and get rid of live strike zone results because the optics are bad. The optics are bad because home plate umpires calling balls/strikes is an antiquated system. The ultimate transition to automated strike zone calls in MLB is a question of 'when' and not an 'if'...
  11. Pictures of Randy Dobnak make me irrationally happy. Great 'everyman' story and appearance. He also does great work in the community. I'm not saying he will ever or should ever pitch for the Twins again.... but I will ALWAYS be a big fan. (and yes... I am happy he got paid... the Pohlads will be just fine without the 8-9 million)
  12. Margon leadoff... woof (just checked live box score AFTER this and let's just say this take was already rotten on arrival :)
  13. Well done... enjoyable read!
  14. Brah... must hit baseball to win...brah!
  15. I'm not so sure... his struggles go well beyond just this game....but I hope you are right!
  16. I'm worried most about Wallner.... He has shown nothing throughout Spring training and now the regular season. If the league has adjusted to him, I hope he can make his own adjustments..... and soon.
  17. Wallner is the biggest concern. He has not hit all Spring.... The league may have adjusted and he has not....
  18. If Buxton and Correa stay healthy and play this way all year (big if I know).... I like the Twins chances..... Until I start thinking about our SP depth... and then I become skeptical again....until I think about a healthy Buck and Correa... and then.....
  19. I think that one of the Twins' biggest strengths is the balance that they have between veterans, young MLB players and quality of farm system. They are well positioned for sustained success. But.... are we willing to compromise some long term sustained success to go 'all in' on a WS run if the situation arises? My concern is that ownership as determined that consistent moderate success is optimal for long term revenue over one WS followed by extended struggles.
  20. I think the wildest prediction was a Wallner BA of .279!!!! Where can I bet on THAT over/under?!
