    The FO has made some nice trades and draft picks during their run, but this offseason was a complete disaster. Pay for another SP or a bunch of washed bench players? Wait until the first IL trip from Lopez, Ryan, or Ober and we will REALLY see the fallout of the terrible decisions made this offseason.

    Injured hitters will be back over the next month or two..... there are no such reinforcements coming for SP. We are one SP injury away (Lopez, Ryan or Ober) from this entire season bottoming out. If it does, it is going to be hard to 'pass' the White Sox for the #1 draft pick as they seem committed setting the MLB season loss record this year.

    I tend to agree... I suspect that Varland will ultimately be a valuable bullpen piece. The problem is that the offseason starting pitching 'plan' by the FO makes keeping Varland a starter this year mandatory whether it is his optimal spot or not....

    How many pitches did Raya through in his high school games? I suspect more than 44.... I'm all for load management but it seems extreme with Raya . I doubt they are saving inning for big league bullpen in September/October.... and at the rate the season is going that would be superfluous at this point

    Let's pump the breaks on this a bit. I'm very happy that Martin and SWR are being given a chance so that we can find out what we have..... but we are about a season of MLB caliber play away from knowing that we got any value....

    Um...yeah... better than doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results..... because that would be.....oh what's the best word for that again....

    Just to be clear.... while many problems have been discussed, there is ONE principle off season failure that will likely sink the season: Lack of SP depth The FO should expect to need to use at least 10 per year (8 last year and 14 in 2022). BUT, they went into the year with 2 solid question marks (maybe 3 depending on your view of Ober) in the starting rotation alone and limited proven depth in AAA. When injuries inevitably manifest, we will be in trouble. Key hitters and bullpen arms should reasonably be expected to get back and stabilize those areas. But, I just don't see a solution for SP (unless we get VERY lucky on the injury front)
