  1. Agree with @Mike Sixeland @IA Bean Counter- it's curtains for Wander's career in MLB. There's just too much smoke around this for there not to be a fire. I've read a few reports from Dominican MLB reporters who have pretty much said that they believe his career is over. Mayyyybe he plays in Japan, Korea, or a Mexican/Dominican/Venezuelan league at some point. But that might be 5 years from now at the very least...and at this point I'm leaning even those scenarios appear unlikely. Most certainly with the MLB, you just don't come back from this. I can't think of any team putting this guy out there. It's over.
  2. Sad to see the Tigers just wipe the floor with this team here in '23. Every time the Twins win half the commenters here start talking about the playoff rotation. It ain't over, folks. Not with these guys.
  3. That was Cabrera's SECOND homer of the season? Woof. That said, I agree with others, guy's a class act and he deserves every accolade given. I'm sure the Tigers are pretty pleased he's moving on..... Wallner continues to be 'da man on offense. Bat this kid 4th every day, best offensive weapon we have. Next to Royce, of course, who should be batting 3rd. The time is now for these guys. Let's win today.
  4. Yep. Buxton as the DH is hurting this team in several ways. First off, he's a DH who can't hit - that's bad. He also can't play defense when DH'ing, and considering that's probably his #1 strength, that's also bad. Finally, he's blocking everyone else....bad bad bad. This is all on Falvey, Levine, and Rocco. Buxton can steal bases and run around the basepaths - he CAN play CF right now, today. They just don't want him to. It's ridiculous. If another team traded for Buxton they'd put him in CF before the wheels on the plane touched down.
  5. Same here. These guys aren't fun to watch and they are racking up ugly losses to ugly teams in the process. Since Rocco got here, there's never been any sense of urgency with this team. No flavor, no heart, and they don't know how to shut the door. These lifeless performances speak volumes. And I fear that Buxton coming back will only make the team worse. I can't believe I'm actually typing that, but it's a sad reality.
  6. "The Diamondbacks had two double steals against Keuchel, and stole bases eight times in the game, six of them double steals. " Holy hell! Nice to see the sweep. For those saying things like "now it's time to overtake Texas for the 2 seed" or something crazy like that, remember what happened last week, they lost 5 straight and got swept by KC. This team will continue to have ups and downs as we roll into the dog days of August. Nothing should be taken for granted and a division win is still very much up in the air, despite what fangraphs says. Tread lightly with your hopes. This Wallner kid is everything we hoped Trevor Larnach would be. Might be the best offensive weapon the Twins have right now. He should be playing every day until the team's season is over!
  7. Big losing streak last week, and while the Twins are starting to right the ship, these 3-2 wins aren't exactly a great sign that they've turned things around. Watching these guys can be like watching paint dry, probably the most boring on-field product in MLB right now. A far cry from the teams that Joe Mauer played on. Speaking of Joe, big weekend for him - happy to see him being honored.
  8. Unfortunate. The Twins are an extremely low-energy team and Joe Ryan is one of the few that shows some fire and pluck. I know that talking about clubhouse vibes is frowned upon here because it can't be measured by the DiamondIQ MAX EvoMatic Stat Machine, but personalities matter. Joe cares and wears it on his sleeve. The number of healthy guys on this team who give a damn is down to 2 or 3.
  9. I couldn't agree more. Thrilled they didn't mortgage the future. In order to really improve at the trade deadline, you've got to have a pretty complete team already in place. A bat and a bullpen arm can patch a few holes and provide some lift to teams that just need that extra boost. This team would need to add 5-6 major pieces to realistically be competitive in October. There was no way they could improve this team enough to be relevant, no matter how much they gave away. Looking forward to '24.
  10. I remember when the Twins were 8-2 since the break and everyone seemed to have completely forgotten who this team was. Alas, this latest handful of blown games shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. It's been the same group of players all year folks. Nothing changes if nothing changes. These type of losing streaks are going to keep happening for the next 2 months, even if the Twins make a splash in the trade market. Staying above .500 and winning the division are both big challenges for this team and they'll be struggling to achieve both of those goals the rest of the way.
  11. K rate is actually higher. Also, if you want to see something very depressing, follow these steps: 1. Go here: https://www.mlb.com/twins 2. Scroll down until you see the "Leaders" column on the right-hand side of the page. 3. Pick any offensive statistic. 4. Sigh deeply and slump in your chair. Yes, it'll evoke a physical reaction because it's THAT bad.
  12. I'm still not convinced this is anything more than a mediocre-at best team, but as a fan I'm happy to see them grabbing these W's. Hitting stats are still atrocious, and the team remains unwatchable - but again, glad they are winning.
  13. A streaky left-handed hitting outfielder with a huge looping swing who hits .219 and strikes out half the time?!?!? Don't we already have like, 4 of those guys? How would Bellinger help?
  14. Thanks so much for this dose of reality. When I've expressed similar skepticism this season, it's been met with responses insinuating I'm a "bad fan" and I've even received a warning for posting the phrase "I hope the Twins lose by less than 3" on a game day thread (it's all good, TD!) I have no idea how people who have watched this 2023 team believe this team has a chance in the postseason - IF they make the postseason at all. The Twins should absolutely trade Gray if they get a good offer, and the same goes for other talent. Finally, just because some of us are down on the Twins doesn't mean we don't cheer for them. I want them to win every single game. But it's silly to pretend this team is good, or even average. They got crushed at home by the O's and are on their way to losing a series in Seattle. The Oakland sweep means nothing.
  15. 1 run. Not going to win many games like this. Pitcher was hittable, really no excuses. Going against a soft-tossing lefty today with a 7.84 ERA. Anyone think the Twins score more than 3 runs off him? Another great outing by the pitching staff yesterday. Starters have been incredible this season. Ober's who we all hoped Randy Dobnak would be.
  16. Psssst: It's not "good pitching" that's keeping the Twins from scoring runs. Rather, the Twins are the perfect remedy for the Orioles pitching woes. Dean Kremer and Kyle Bradish are solid MLB pitchers, there's not much hope for the Twins to break out against those guys. The only chance they have is against Cole Irvin and his 7.18 ERA on Sunday. But things are going terribly, and I'm afraid this could be the game that completely breaks what's left of any remaining fan support for this team. This team needs to find a way to play Julien, Wallner, Larnach, Kirilloff, and Lewis every day. Trade Sonny Gray and find a way to get Balazovic and Woods Richardson in the rotation for the rest of the year. I'd rather watch rookies lose 3-0 and 4-1 as opposed to watching the current group do the same. It's AWFUL and it's been awful for months. Unwatchable baseball.
  17. This is a great take, I agree! Maybe the Twins can even sell a guy like Michael A. Taylor, get Buxton in CF and find room for Wallner to play every day. Heck maybe even find a way to get Austin Martin up here, the guy's 24 years old and it's about time for the Twins to figure out if he's a valuable piece or just organizational depth. I want the Twins to TRY, I just don't want them to mortgage the future on a run. This team has wayyyyy too many holes to fill and adding one bat and a bullpen arm won't change the trajectory. The Mahle deal is going to haunt this team for years, Twins can't afford to make that mistake 2 years in a row.
  18. Good picks: Petty, Lewis, and Lee. Understandable gambles: Cavaco, Miller. Head scratchers: DH-type college guys like Rooker, Larnach, and Sabato. Why? Unknown: Wallner. He deserves the same chance that Larnach has been given several times over the years.
  19. Meanwhile Simeon Woods Richardson is 0-5 with a 7.47 ERA over 11 starts in St. Paul. He's got just 40 strikeouts in 47 innings of work. Austin Martin way down in Fort Meyers on a rehab assignment and has just 6 ABs on the year. Trevor Larnach and Alex Kirilloff have proven they can play major league baseball, but it doesn't look like they are on the path to stardom - in fact it's been a struggle for them to hang on to the jobs that have been handed to them for several reasons. 90% of top ranked, eye-catching prospects don't deliver as advertised. It's not just Twins prospects, either (although sometimes it sure feels that way). Maybe it's time to appreciate Miguel Sano a bit more. The guy was a big name prospect who showed up in the majors and hit 25, 28, 30, and 34 HRs. Played a solid 3rd base and even made some spectacular plays, switched to 1st base and was very serviceable. Made an All-Star team. All while getting torn to shreds by lots of Strib and TD fans regularly.
  20. Anyone still think the Twins are so close and should trade some prospects for a bat and a bullpen arm? As the above Tweet so brutally pointed out, they're the 3rd worst team in baseball over the past 1.5 months.
  21. 4, 1, and 2 runs in the three games so far in this series. The only team "reverting to form" is the Twins. At this point we have to believe at least one of these three things; 1. The Twins hitters are less talented than hitters on other teams, and thus strike out more. 2. The Twins hitters are on par with hitters on other teams, they've just faced much better pitching and thus strike out more. 3. The Twins hitters are on par with hitters on other teams, but the team has a philosophy that it's better to just close your eyes and swing as hard as you can. It's not working, but the team either is unwilling or unable to change the approach. #3 seems most likely to me. What the Twins have become is exactly what MLB fans dislike about the game today. Rob Manfred stepped in with the pitching clock and the bigger bases to try and remedy this. Many teams have adjusted and offense is up - but not in Minnesota. They're still stuck in 2019 and haven't been able to move on from the juiced ball era. At least give us something and get Buxton out in CF? At it's core, baseball is entertainment. And we are not entertained.
