  1. Looks like thus could be the best part of the trade package might take a couple years to find out. Keep on building up the minor league pitching depth.
  2. If you attend High School baseball games where potential draft choices are playing, you will see a full section of professional scouts set up to record every move of the players on hand. Usually there is only one star they are focused on, but that focus includes a full battery of camera's, speed guns, computers, note cards and pitching sheets. I've seen more than 50 scouts at a time sitting in the stands recording every move a player makes. Scouts will track every game certain players play, complete with cameras and other equipment. Sometimes more scouts than fans in the stands. So to say there has not been much eye's on the players is just wrong. The radar guns they bring are the same as would be brought to scout a rival major league teams pitchers, except they may be better calibrated. The computers set up with cameras have software set to track the pitches thrown and break or move. When you are getting ready to spend 8mil or more on a player you use slovenly methods at least not if you are a professional organization. The best college scouts use equipment as good as or better than any professional orgs.
  3. Wallner, Winoker & Jenkins. The tallest outfield in major league baseball 2026.
  4. I think they need 7-8 good guys in the pen and hopefully 5-6 decent guys at 3A to call up when needed at the start of the season. If the guys brought up after the season starts can come in and get some outs when called upon we may be able to salvage an extra 2-3 games during the year. And save some arms from falling off as the season wears on.
  5. I see a lot of talent and potential in this first group. I could see 2 pitchers with the potential to be top end starters and another 2 who could get on the back end of a rotation or consistent relievers. I would like to see Prielipp and Canterino throwing elbows to make room at the front of the rotation during 2025.
  6. Water or wine, I think he needs to come into spring training as a starter. Finding a 1 inning reliever is usual easier than acquiring a starter. Varland has the pitches to be a starter. He may start the season in 3A as Ober did last year and then come in later in April or early May, but I think once in the rotation he should be there for good. His time in the bullpen last year should help him realize his ability to get out of tough spots and close out innings. Making trades for good relievers or #6 starters should be doable no matter the status of free agent starters.
  7. Pissing off Duran by bouncing him around in the bullpen could be a block buster. Unless they plan to trade Duran next winter I'd not do this, or else tell Jansen he is the bounce around reliever.

    A Man of Many Gloves

I remember watching a game where Tovar singled on two separate pitchouts. He brought a lot of energy to the Twins in those years. The other guy on that rookie card, Sandy Valdespino was a capable hitter and regular defensive replacement in the outfield. I can remember him climbing the wall in left field to haul in what otherwise would have been homers. Although I can't remember the stadium, I do remember he fell over the left field wall but held unto the ball.
  9. Pitching from all sources. Looking at the pitching from the DSL for last year, the Twins team ranked 47 in the league in pitching. Yeah that's right, they were worst then many teams B squads. In the complex league they ranked 7th out of 15 team, and gave up 5.5 runs per game. The lower levels definitely need pitching help. Hopefully they start finding pitchers who are bigger, stronger and can withstand the riggers of working towards the majors. Some teams do.
  10. If Miranda is short of time this winter to work on his batting post surgery, maybe he can bring his father with him next month to help get his swing down..
  11. It's been awhile and I've forgotten what a good pen can really do when you have 5 or 6 really good relievers.
  12. I don't trade either player. If the Twins propose to make consistent playoff appearances they need 12 or 13 players available. As we saw the first half of last year, they didn't have the team hitting to run away from a bad division. Keep the young talent and work them into starting roles, which doesn't mean 160 games a year roles anymore. Without a great amount of luck, the Twins are more than a #3 starting pitcher away from the World Series. Be patient and build a TEAM.
  13. As far as short term call ups go, Michael Helman, Deshawn Kersey and Anthony Prato have all had good stolen base years. Since these three have been in the org for a couple of years and are on the roster for St Paul I'd think they should be call-ups this year as injury replacements. Lee could be but I'd think letting him complete his minor league training to come full time to the Twins is more in his cards. Goodrum is also on the St Paul roster but I don't think he has stolen much in recent years.
  14. Can the Twins win the central without Kepler or Polanco this year as the rest of the team currently stands? I think that answer is yes, unless they have an incredibly bad year. Can they win the Al with both in the lineup all year, I think that answer is probably no. SO the third question I have - can they be traded for players whose multi-year value be worth more to the team then Polanco and Kepler. If those players received are upper level minor leaguers than Larnach's value to the team is higher. His season long stats may not improve dramatically over his history, but it wouldn't have to improve much over last year to offer more hitting wise than Kepler has done over 6 1/2 of the past 8 years. I'm sure the Kepler fans will jump all over that statement, but if Kepler doesn't offer much in the way of value of where the team can finish without him, the question is can they get something that brings longer term value for him. I think trades of Polanco and Kepler are what most people are looking for over the next 6 weeks or so, along with a doubtful high end free agent starter or young future star pitcher. Time to go back to sleep.
  15. I think whoever starts the year at second base this year is just a place holder. Of course should does not mean will, but Lee should be ready by sometime in June to take over at second or third. Julian provides more flexibility in the infield then Polanco will this year and next. Part of Polanco's value comes in holding down a position that no one else can fill, but as several others have pointed out the Twins have multiple second base options. It will be interesting next month to see if Lewis, Julian or Lee start taking reps in the outfield or if Kirilloff plays more left field in the spring. I would expect that Polanco's value as a Twin not necessarily a major league second baseman, but as a Twin will continue to decline. It's trading him as a major league second baseman where his value lies.
  16. A very interesting team to watch, but unfortunately proved to be a not very sustainable model. I think 6th place is to high a spot for this team. My placement on this list would probably be at best 9th place.
  17. That string of 2018-2020 is a pretty big hole on the Twins roster right now, although perhaps Larnach can make some contributions yet. On the other hand the 2016-17 draft could provide the teams 3rd and 4th place hitters and the 2022-2023 drafts could add future punch to the lineup. Unknown what the future holds for that 2021 pick, although the trade results have been good so far. Keeping fingers crossed on the 2024 pick and the return to health and continued development of the pitching side of recent drafts.
  18. The Twins will no doubt need extra relief arms at some times this season, so having guys come in for outs even if not strikeouts is extremely important. Having guys available for outs in innings 4-7 every day is important to a winning season. We seen enough of games getting blown out in those innings. If Winder comes in in inning 5 and gets out in whatever manner I'll take it. Wouldn't be the first pitcher who remade themselves and produced a long career.
  19. I think the Twins win the division next year, sans an injury plagued year. They are not winning a world series, no matter what kind of trades they could reasonably make. I think they need to focus on maintaining a strong projected lineup for 25-28 and not trade any of those players for a 1-2 year rentals. They have pitcher reinforcements coming along but it might not be until 25 before they start getting here. The Twins need to remain focused on building as strong as possible home grown team because they are never going to compete with the Dodgers or Yankees etc for most money spent buying free agents. Unfortunately the Dodgers 700 mil shopping spree only guaranteed they are going to spend more to keep all stars around him. You don't spend that kind of money without further team commitments to build a World Series Dynasty.
  20. Jair Camargo. Jair is on the 40 man roster already and I think expecting the current catching duo to go through another season injury free will be highly unlikely. His impact may only consist of playing time but if you need someone to put on the gear that could be a big impact. Returnee's Miranda and Paddack need to be huge in regular playing roles. Paddack has only pitched 27 innings during the regular season the past 2 years and needs to fill a regular starters role. Miranda could spend more than 100 games divided between 1B, 3B and DH and needs to be an impact right handed bat. Canterino also on the 40 man roster needs to arrive this season hopefully around the allstar break.
  21. I'm hunting a trade for Kepler. This is probably his high point for trade value since 2019 and take that peak for what it's worth. Would they really try to resign him next year for 3/50. I doubt it. If no trade shows up, keep him but plan on trading him as soon as practicable.
  22. I can see the decision of Polanco's future pushed off until Lee is ready. I don't think anyone expects Lee to make the roster out of spring training. Having Polanco on the roster to start next year is protection in case Kirilloff is not ready to start, or in case Buxton is not ready to start. Since there is no hurry to move Polanco, keep him unless someone blows our socks off with an offer and I don't expect that to happen but wouldn't say no either.
  23. The possibility exits that Buxton sits out most of if not all of next year. I wouldn't let him work out anywhere until his knee is healthy enough to with stand the strain of playing fulltime and that may never happen. But there is no point in letting him continue to aggravate or re-injure the leg just to see if he can make it unto the field for a week or 2. The possibility also exists, that they negotiate to buy out his contract over some protracted period like say 12-15 years and use the funds saved for a pitcher now.
  24. Hopefully Martin's elbow heals sufficiently by Spring Training that he is put in centerfield full time. The Twins have about 6 guys they can play at second, but nobody definitely for center, at least big league ready. Hoping guys that were injured most of last year or just mostly bad turn it around on the mound. Could save about 10-12 mil on the relief pitcher market that way. Obviously more than 1 pitcher. I would like to see Funderburk and Alcala stay on the major league roster all year pitching well. One of Balazovic, Richardson, Winder, Hendrick or Henriquez as a real bullpen option would help alot. Maybe Moran will learn to throw strikes. Larnach could probably help the Twins more than someone they could get in a trade for him. May not sound logical, but many times he just seems to be on the cusp of making it.
  25. So far in 270 at bats he has 16 homers and 51 RBI's or extending that out in 540 at bats, a full seasons worth, 32 homers and 102 RBI's. That would be good. Of course he would also have over 200 strikeouts, but an 842 OPS would also look nice. He has enough at bats that pitchers and coaches will have to really work to find more weaknesses in his swing then he has shown so far. Let's hope they don't.
