Every team hits on and misses on players. relievers by the nature of the label are usually down to their third strike. If they miss they are usually out. Some one else may pick them up or not or may 5 or 6 may pick them up. The Twins best relievers were failed starters with other teams as well as their own. A guy that is healthy enough and willing to keep going I think will wind up with a few good seasons somewhere. Sometimes after finally learning what they have to get batters out with of learning a new pitch or two. The Twins need to keep trying players and hopefully have good luck.

Ober VS KC early in the year. March 31. 1 inning 9 hits. 8 runs 3 homers. 1 loss May 29. 5 innings. 9hits. 6 runs. 3 homers. 1 loss If Ober had his normal starts against KC the Twins would probably have won those two games and finished the season tied with KC. He did pitch a 7 inning 1 hitter in September but by then it was too late.

What Was the Point of Signing Carlos Correa?
gman replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think plans to sell the team have been in the works for at least 2 years. You don't expect to unload a billion and a half dollar asset in a couple of weeks. Not at max profit anyway. I think Correa was added to the team just to have icing on the cake for a potential buyer. Some in the Pohlad family decided they didn't want to be out of pocket to fund the team while waiting for a potential buyer. -

If I Owned The Minnesota Twins: A Wish List
gman replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As an owner I would want to develop a really good TV contract. Streaming games all over the countries including US, Canada, Mexico, South and Central America. Include free in game tickets with a purchased streaming subscription. Maybe a pack of 10 tickets with an annual subscription. Have people watching as many games as possible. Maybe include a free streaming subscription with every season ticket purchased. Sorry Arko, I wouldn't want any dogs in the stadium. -
Twins Daily Rookie of the Year - 2024
gman replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
While it would have been nice if the Twins had 4 rookies with stronger seasons than Richardson, he had a good if unplanned for season by a rookie. Ownership left management in an untenable position with regards to the pitching roster this year, however management has done a good job in developing pitchers, as well as every day players to fill the roster with. I Just hope for better health next year, its past time for some good luck on the injury front.- 4 replies

I think the Twins have enough players to compete with where they are at. The real question to me is will they have enough healthy bodies. Their real hope for a championship team is to hold where they are and plan to add from Keaschall, Jenkins, Rodriguez, Eeles the next two years. The pitching staff is starting to make it to the majors and they have a strong starting and relieving core if healthy. I don't think they can trade for health from the position they are in, they just need to solve the medical problems.

Pohlad Family Greed Killed the 2024 Twins
gman replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Anybody taking bets on whether or not prices go up next year? Baseball has long ago priced themselves out of the range of the average fan who would probably prefer to attend more games but can't afford to. Owners and players never, ever take that into consideration. So cheer for what you get if you want to. Kudo's to the blogger of this page for knowing what is happening to the school districts and budgets.- 65 replies

What are the Twins’ Toughest Arbitration Decisions?
gman replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
When Kirilloff is injured, the Twins have several players who can out hit him. When Kirilloff is healthy, I think only Lewis could out hit him, if he is healthy. So I would resign him easily. Castro has several possible replacements currently on the 40 man roster, so I would look to trade him. Everybody else gets resigned and no free agents from other organizations are signed this off season. Except for possibly a reliever.- 56 replies

Twins Minor League Hitter of the Year– 2024
gman replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
The Twins new hitting coach will have plenty of young hitters who were successful in the minors and need to find that success in the majors. The new hitting coach will have to be in tune with the hitters listed above to make sure they get a firm start when its their turn to arrive in the majors. Enough with the flops and failures of our young players.- 14 replies

Unfortunately you have to convince many fans that there is something besides homeruns to basebal, then fans watching the games can convince ownership that there is something besides homeruns that they'll watch. Then IF ownership doesn't put such a big emphasis on homeruns or nothing maybe the offense can move forward. Last spring Correa had several long discussions with Louis Arreaz about hitting and he took off. Before he hurt his foot of course. Maybe we could hire Arreaz back as a player coach when he is next available. Besides Correa, he helped several players on the team and he works with multiple players in the offseason.

That's a given I thought. But there is a good example in LA of a player who spread his money over multiple years. Of course that was agreed to in advance.

Definitely a conundrum. If the team salaries are capped at $130mil for next year and probably the year after, then their best option is to try and trade Correa. The highest salaried player. Only problem who would take him for that salary to play 120 games a year. If they can get him out there for that many games. Unfortunately the Giants and Mets were right not to sign him. Maybe if he realizes that he will only play for a (at best) 4th place team, he might be willing to renegotiate his contract. I doubt he would do it until 2026, however. I expect everyone in the office got blindsided by the sudden reduction in team salaries. Other players to go would include Farmer, Santana and Kepler. Maybe Vasquez, who would need to be traded with I am sure the Twins eating at least a third of his salary.

Ruben Velazquez played this year as a 16 year old. Then gets released. No he didn't rip the cover off the ball, but what exactly was expected of a 16 year old?

Should the Twins Bring Back Carlos Santana in 2025?
gman replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Expect first base to be manned by Miranda, Kirilloff and possibly Lewis or Julian. I think Santana signs for whatever he can get from a team with greater chances of advancing in the playoffs.- 95 replies

Why is Twins Rookie Brooks Lee Struggling So Badly?
gman replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"Rookie" is the key word in title. 146 plate appearances at big league level. Enough said. -
On the other hand he could easily still be hurt. The right abductor strain was written as a 6-8 week recovery period. I think like others on this roster he is trying to play through an injury the best he can. If you look at his stats since he "came back' from being injured, he is not physically right. He can easily see how Kirilloff is being treated. Its just unfortunate he has trouble staying healthy.

Searching for Replacement Value on the Twins Roster
gman replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think a lineup of - Jeffers/Vazguez. c Santana/ Miranda 1b Julian/Helman 2B Lee/Farmer. SS Lewis/Miranda. 3B Larnach/Martin. LF Kiersey/Castro. CF Wallner. RF Lewis/Miranda. DH Is just not a playoff lineup. Maybe in a couple of years they might be, but not yet. Nobody is providing surplus value at this time, although several have at various times this year.- 7 replies
