  1. Prielipp will probably take most of 2 years to build up to full time starter innings, whether in the minors or majors. Would you hold your breath until the later part of 2026 to see if he can make it as a big league starter?
  2. That was the history of Wayne Graham long time head coach at Rice. He retired in 2018 and passed away last September.
  3. I think the Twins will need them all this year, including Henriquez, Tonkin, Topa etc. The only real question is who might get cut rather then go to the IL or 3A. There will be someone replaced before the end of April, I think that's a safe bet. So the first 8 to begin the year may not be the best 8 but if we can get the best 8 75-80% of the time we should be in pretty good shape. I'd like 90-95% but expect that to never happen.
  4. The Dodgers just the next best thing that everyone seemed to be gunning for. Their team salary approaches $400mil per year and the Yankees payroll is north of $300. I think you need to get serious about thinking of 2025 as far as a go for it year. Make the best deal possible for Castro, because otherwise he'll be gone for nothing next year. After seeing what the Dodgers, Yankees and Phillies are spending, I would think a new owner might take a step back.
  5. The roster so far seems to include 25 players. Not all of them will fit on a single DSL team counting some players left from last years team. The Twins haven't had multiple DSL teams, at least not in recent years. Will some of them play in Florida this year? 16 seems kind of young for that league.
  6. I think spring training is a month away. Most or all of these guys will be in camp, unless placed on the injured list. There will be openings in other teams camps and probably we can expect a trade or two. Other teams may release players towards the end of camp that will look better on on roster and we can then release someone off the end of the roster. We may wind up resigning them and stash at 3A.
  7. Sign up some new owners. Explain the baseball needs and operations to them. Off season won!
  8. How many of his at bats did you review yourself? Where the strike zone is lined up? Sometimes a poor call early in an at bat costs a player an at bat. Not just the third strike.
  9. What's going to be the hardest adjustment for Erod is adjusting to the umpire's inability to consistently call balls and strikes correctly. The umps may be the best in the world, but I don't think they can accurately call faster pitches and sharper breaking balls. If and when the majors switches to robo callers then Erod and Julian will be able to maximize their talent.
  10. Varland turned 27 last month, it's time for the Twins and he to work out what is best for him. He was great in 2023 in relief in 12 innings, but his relief work last year in 17 innings didn't give him much to build on. However, other than 2 horrendous outings against the Rays and Reds where he gave up 10 hits and 14 runs in 3 innings, he pitched very well in relief. Since he has not done well as a starter, but has had some good outings in relief, I hope the Twins give him a full chance to make the team out of the bullpen. I think he could quickly rise up to be a dependable set up man. Maybe similar to what Sands accomplished last year.
  11. Well Berrios wasn't going to be here. The Twins weren't going to give him $130mil. So far they've only given Correa that much. Berrios probably wasn't going to be as bad here his last year as he was in Toronto that his first full year. To me The Twins came out way ahead, as they have 2 players now to give them multiple years of play. In SWR first full year here he was much better than Berrios was in what would have been his last year here. We don't know how good or bad SWR and Martin will be, but we do know Berrios wasn't going to be here. He said as much.
  12. I think we've seen that payroll needs to start in the $150-160 range to push to and stay at the top of the division. But to move to the top of the AL that salary will need to move towards $200 and higher as the younger players start accumulating more service time (and hopefully better careers). They will need more payroll room if they look to acquire all-star caliber players with proven tract records.
  13. I'll probably pay most attention to #2. I don't expect the Twins to be involved in any big trade packages for the simple fact that that would come with increases in payroll. The major league roster could get crowded depending on how fast prospects make it to the majors. Unfortunately they would only make it to the major league roster if there was a injury or someone totally fell on their face. When they do make it, I hope we have some prospects that take a job and run with it. Pitchers seem to do better on arrival then the hitters have been. Hopefully the hitters start to catch up this year.
  14. The biggest hiccup for International free agents seems to be getting passed A ball. Many do well in the DSL, but once they get to Florida they just seem to disappear. I'm hoping Ramon Barinas can have a major impact on the overall results.
  15. That's good news on the pitching front. With a big three of Lopez, Ober and Ryan and maybe Festa making it a big 4. I'm not sure about SWR although he did have an acceptable rookie season. I suspect we won't know for sure about Ryan's condition until he throws some spring innings.
  16. I'm hoping Roman Barinas can have a major impact on the Twins Latin America prospect recruitment. I'd prefer to see 1 really good recruit per year then 4-5 mediocre recruits that don't develop much beyond A-ball.
  17. FYI - For a chance to see Thielbar the Cubs will be in town July 8-10.
  18. I suggest we trade the trade stuff for articles on Spring Training opening tomorrow.
  19. The Twins need to start developing top prospects at both first base and shortstop. I can see Winokur and Culpepper getting time at first base this year. I don't think either will be a major league shortstop. I also think Keaschall will be getting more time at first base, maybe in the majors while his arm continues to heal from surgery.
  20. Farmer was the third string catcher the past couple of years for the Twins. I don 't remember him getting into a game at that position though. According to his minor league stats, Gasper played catcher in 114 games and 188 at firstbase. He did get into 85 at DH with no errors though.
  21. I'm thinking more of a combination of third base and left field for Culpepper. Maybe some first base time also. Doesn't seem smooth enough for the middle infield, nor fast enough for center field.
  22. The mere fact that we have multiple pitching prospects rising to and pitching for the major league team instead dumpster diving in Spring, mid year, late year, winter and most other times to find pitching shows that we are way ahead of where this team has been in more than 20 years. I think 2-3 pitchers will be available to the Twins each year for at least the next 3 years.
  23. I think I might rotate Severino, Eeles & McCusker from St Paul first.
