  1. This, 100%. It's just a game and MLB is a for-profit enterprise selling tickets to look at plaques. These players may be currently banned, but the did just fine economically. They just have one less award on their bookshelf than some of their peers. So what?
  2. Off topic, but every time I see your name I think it says "AI from SoDak" (as in "artificial intelligence") and I giggle. just thought I'd share. I also enjoy the memories here. My collection (now with a nephew) mostly started in depth in '87.
  3. Before the season, I expected him to be Gordon-like. It seems that he is. He's a serviceable MLB backup right now. I hope he gets better with experience.
  4. Me neither. Just noting that weird patterns develop. I think, like any young MLB player, he's vulnerable to slumps. It's frustrating, but part of the process.
  5. Does his slump coincide with playing more LF?
  6. How many innings does Festa get this year? Is there a realistic chance of accumulating any MLB innings, or more in a spot-start or Sept relief scenario?
  7. So why does this happen? I think the cold weather angle is lazy and somewhat stereotype based. If the team can't hit in the cold, what about October/November when it REALLY counts? Is modern Spring Training like the NFL Training Camp, aka the players take it too easy and you don't get real action 'til May? Why are they slow to come around? Would love thoughts here. Unlike the NFL, the team still has 130+ games to balance the scales. Personally I love the MLB marathon. But every time they add more postseason games I kind of think they should subtract regular season games elsewhere.
  8. I hear what you're saying here. Zero idea how I feel. I think the Larnach/Kiriloff rotation at LF has been mildly effective over the past 3 years but it's time for one of them to "make the jump." I think both have the 1st round talent to do so. It's just a question of if it will happen. I hate to site 10+ years ago, but players like Morneau or Cuddyer or Hunter all struggled and then, like a finger snap one day, they got it. I keep hoping for that moment.
  9. The eternal question is: can he get better? Koskie did. Sano didn't. (But, then again, Sano is back at 3B with LAA.) As a backup, that flexibility is probably essential. To be an everyday player, he needs to hit RHP and LHP and play passable 3B. Long way to go. EIther way, on Rocco's team, he'll get playing time and he'll play a variety of positions.
  10. What happened with the Jeffers HBP? I'm curious, given when it came in the game. I found it odd that the Twins challenged a tag play late in a blowout shortly before that.
  11. They'll probably shop him for a frontline SP. Throw in a Duensing and it's a sure thing! But, seriously, I agree with IT above. No such thing as too many good players.
  12. It takes talent to stick around as a starter in MLB. Kepler has that. Though I would call it a longshot and not a "near-lock" to make the Twins HOF. Unless he has a great October/November this year :)
  13. Am I the only one to read this as "Ms." instead
  14. I expect some bumps as almost all pitchers have in their first year after TJ surgery, but I'm happy so far. He is more like 1.5 years in at this point.
  15. Earlier I spoke to the negatively of the site. To be honest, I was speaking to the Front Page, not the forums. Forums by nature should be a community element that doesn't editorialize. There is good moderation here. Keep it up. But the tone on the Front Page is is very disproportionate. I respect different voices, but it's clear that pay-per-click payment leads to poor content. Articles that literally end with "what do you think?" are the epitome of this. A strong article doesn't end with an open-ended question. It makes a statement. Half of the Front Page articles literally steal an idea from the forum 3 days later and rephrase it as a question. I started following this site because of well written, thoughtful analysis. Now, many of the blogs I purposely didn't follow have moved their writers here. Long ago, I started following TD because it was an alternative to the Twins Hub on Star Tribute. It's become the Twins Hub all over again. Sorry for any typos. Either I've had too many beers, or the site is bogged down so much I can't proofread.
  16. Was this really a peculiar use of Duran though? He has something like 40 saves in my his career. I think it easily fits the bigger pattern. The era of the "closer" is over. I think the far more interesting take is mentioned in the article: that rule changes encourage new strategies. Even this simplest change has a trickle down effect. I could care less about closers and save records, but here's my obligatory editorial rant: Manfred, stop changing the game! Simple is better. Almost always, but especially for baseball.
  17. The reason mugshot posting is often cited as in poor taste is because the mugshot is taken at arrest. Pre-court. It doesn't matter if you were guilty/innocent to get a mugshot. And its presence online can hurt you for life. There are literally vulture companies that archive and repost them, then blackmail people without criminal records. Just thought I'd share, but now I'm bowing out of this conversation and back to baseball.
  18. As punishment for the quality of his AB today?
