  1. Jump on it. Key words being "very little in prospect capital." That's what we normally do and the return is typically "very little." This is an opportunity to take an all in type of shot at a low prospect capital shot. Hell yes.
  2. No trade. You got him to compete this year. You're in position to do so. Maybe you lose him in the off-season, maybe you don't. He didn't cost you anything in terms of player capital. If you have a good run maybe you figure out a way to keep him. Trading him for prospects sets you back years. A year ago we traded our best pitcher for AA prospects who to this day remain AA prospects. You brought Correa in to take a shot. Take a shot.
  3. Plan on seeing at least two of those five leave if we make trades that will put us in position to make noise in the post-season.
  4. "This is a solidly middle AL team" are words that aptly described the 1987 & 1991 Twins. You're not "taking shots" because you're afraid. You're "taking shots" to win. Not taking shots is what you do because you're afraid you're going to give up something that you'll wish you still had down the road.
  5. If we're gonna get something worth getting we're likely gonna have to give something we won't care to give.
  6. Ya gotta take a shot at some point. Fear is not a position to be operating from.
  7. Your hitting skills competition idea sounds a little bit like hitting against the shift and we all know guys don't like that.
  8. Actually, getting Montas without giving up one (or more) of Larnach, Kiriloff, Miranda or Balazovic is a steal. Doubt the A's would bite though.
  9. You're right. The problem is too many guys NOT hitting the fences. Sano can do that. Also might want to keep in mind that any trade for a SIGINIFICANT pitcher may well include one of Kiriloff, Larnach or Miranda. Gotta give something to get something. Opens a hole in the batting order.
  10. This team's been shut out more than any club in the bigs. You don't move on from a guy who could be a difference maker.
  11. Actually, Kepler's played 20% of his career games in CF so I'd say he's done more than just fill in in a pinch. If one of Celestino or Gordon would get the right return, I'd be just fine with Kepler in CF when Buxton's not and Kirilloff in RF, especially with Sano nearing a return and a lot of talk about being in the running to get Josh Bell's bat down the stretch. Contending teams can never have too many bats or arms.
  12. The comparison was to 4th place Toronto, now 3 games over .500
  13. I'd love to know the last time the Twins were in a division strong enough to be in 4th place at 4 games over .500..
  14. 4th place and yet only a game and a half behind the local nine.
  15. Buxton might deserve to start over Stanton but Yordan Alvarez blows them both away so that whole argument is pointless. Also love how baseball stat geeks spend hours telling me how batting average is an outdated stat until it's the main selling point for one of ours. I'll take lil' Vlad six ways to Sunday. Both are deserving of reserve spots although, as much as I love Buxton as a player, I can name at least a half a dozen guys more deserving based solely on his games played or lack thereof.
  16. Seems a LOT like the type of guy sellers are going to be looking for when we call about big league arms to help us down the stretch.
  17. Better win now because you just traded away any chance of doing so 2-5 years from now.
  18. half a season does not a season make. p.s. Might want to take a look at his last two starts as well.
  19. What you seem to be saying is that Berrios' team wins more games because they are a better team. Hard to be the better team when you best players are playing for the other guys. Bottom line is that as this point in time we have gotten NOTHING in return for Berrios. Can't call that a win. In the future. Maybe. Maybe not. That's probably why they'll continue to play the games.
  20. I'm assuming you've seen us play. That should answer you question.
