  1. At no point have there been 9 guys healthier and hitting better than Urshela and Sanchez.
  2. You've isolated the problem. At no point have there been nine guys healthier and hitting better than Sanchez & Urshela. This ain't rocket science.
  3. Liam Hendricks was at one time a waiver wire pickup. Relievers are fickle. Many /most? are failed starters.
  4. Not quite sure what world Urshela & Sanchez can be called second stringers in. OK, technically Jeffers has caught two more games than Sanchez but, counting DH, Sanchez has 92 more PA than Jeffers so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Sanchez is NOT a second stringer.
  5. Four guys who can help and didn't give up Lewis, Canterino, Woods-Richardson, Martin, Wallner, Jose Rodriguez, Balazovic or Varland.
  6. I remember a significant number of fans who didn't care for Mauer and he DID hit.
  7. Fairly impressed with how they did in spite of all the pressure and the talent that had previously flown off the board.
  8. Totally agree. Said the day we traded him that we'd find ourselves looking for what we just moved. We got two AA guys for him who remain AA guys to this day. Maybe they'll eventually pan out. Also a pretty good chance that Berrios will return to form as well. We could have had him and Buxton for half what the Padres will end up giving Juan Soto.
  9. I thought we fixed our lack of top 100 guys when we traded Berrios....
  10. German Marquez? Might the return be some thing like Encarnacion-Strand & Canterino?
  11. Would Encarnancion-Strand and Canterino do the trick?
  12. Sellers are always looking for pitching and buyers are always looking for pitching AND bats. Strong chance some contender looks at Kepler the way the Braves looked at Rosario a year ago. With Adam Duvall out for the year that team COULD be the Braves. Of course they're not likely inclined to give up arms that could help us down the stretch.
  13. Teams with something worth trading for aren't looking for hitting prospects.
  14. Teams in contention would be all over Kepler if we were so inclined.
  15. It's the Twins so draw your own conclusions on that. We move four other pieces last year and got one guy who has thus far helped and a few others that have not yet advanced.
  16. Marlins weren't giving up Alcantara. If they were they'd have had a line from here to Miami of teams looking to make that move and would have gotten far more than we would have offered for him. And they didn't move him so that says a lot about what their intentions were to make such a move.
  17. Based on the esteem in which he was (is) held by those that were looking to move him, I would have expected 2 prospects neither of which would have been ready by 23.
  18. So here's a fun exercise. Much talk a year (and more than a year) ago about the wisdom of moving Buxton. Where would this team be today without him?
  19. Sox bullpen isn't better than the ours. Should be but it's not.
  20. If we get one game for every "expert" who makes a prediction without putting his name on it, we win the division by at least 8 games.
  21. 3 to 4 of these guys will likely go in the next week. Hopefully those that don't can contribute sooner rather than later. The other lesser thought of possibility would be moving some guys already on the 40. Not sure who in either case though. Will also need a 40 man spot for big leaguers acquired.
  22. Actually, you DID call them cowards. And whether we get Montas or Castillo, I'd STILL try to make other moves. There are probably going to be a dozen to a dozen and a half teams in contention and looking to be buyers. Saying that if we, or any of the other dozen plus contenders, have no shot if they don't get Montas or Castillo is preposterous. Call the common man. Kris Bryant didn't bring a trophy to the Giants last year. Craig Kimbrel didn't bring one to the south side. Jose Berrios didn't bring a ring to Canada. Nor did Brad Hand. Cesar Hernandez didn't take the south siders to the promised land. Joey Gallo didn't bring one to the big apple and now could be had for an apple. Eddie Escobar didn't bring one to beer town. Kendall Graveman & Rafael Montero didn't bring one to H-Town. Braves made a bunch of "B" moves and won the title. I'd be just fine with a similar result. Maybe they'd sell Eddie......
  23. Actually the 87 Twins made a number of moves that year, many of them just before the season. Al Newman, Dan Gladden, Jeff Reardon, Senor Smoke, Tom Nieto all added shortly before the season. Sal Butera added in May. Traded for Joe Niekro in June, Steve Carlton in July and the Baylor trade on September 1. 91 Twins also made their big moves before the season. Chilli Davis, Jack Morris. Just for the record they also had a 10 game losing streak that year. They may not have been a "middling" team that year but NOBODY thought they had a snowball's chance in hell of getting by the Jays that year and even less chance of them beating the Pirates if they did. Can't call them out for not making deadline moves when they won the damn World Series.
  24. It's not a matter of what they do first. If they need two starters & two relievers go get them all. If you screw around getting other things first and run out of time to get this kind of get you still end up short of what is needed.
