    I hope it works for Byron. I've had both cortisone and intra articulate Synvisc gel injections in the past year and neither worked. The first of two knee replacements is scheduled for early December.

    Jose Salas is still batting below .200 but it seems like his name shows up nearly every day in the recap. According to baseball reference, over the last month, his average is just under .270. Let's hope that he's starting to figure out professional baseball.

    To anyone who wants to refer to Lewis' accomplishments this season as a Small Sample Size, consider this: That's the whole point! In exactly 1/3 of a season, he has 4 grand slams, 14 home runs, 50 runs batted in, and 6 stolen bases. And he's a rookie. Whether or not you think 54 games is a SSS, those are still damn impressive numbers. The bullpen (despite the complaints of many) appears to be a strength heading into the playoffs. With Gray, Lopez, and Ryan as three sure starters, that leaves Duran, Jax, Thielbar, Pagan, Varland, Ober, and Maeda (and maybe Paddock and Stewart) available for bullpen duties. If an occasional fourth starter is needed, the Twins have Ober, Varland, Maeda, and possibly Keuchel to choose from. That might be a better selection of arms than any trade deadline acquisitions might have created - and without any reduction of minor league assets.

    Can someone attach names to the rookie dress up day picture? An amazing group of giants and little people. Or maybe they only look small because of all the redwood trees around them?

    Hearing good things about a trade that is mutually beneficial is refreshing. So often you hear people complain that a trade wasn't more beneficial to the home team. Being in Maine, I only get news about the Red Sox and currently the discussion is all about front office changes. A Boston reporter who covers the Red Sox said yesterday that the biggest cause of the decline of the Sox (and a major reason for the from office shakeup) is that the front office would only make trades that they perceived to be in favor of the Sox at a 70%/30% rate. According to the reporter, Boston didn't finish several major trades last off-season because of this. To me, that gives the Twins' front office a lot of positive points for the Arraez/Lopez trade.

    If he is on a pitch count, I would have difficulty commenting about SWR having "a hard time getting through five innings" without knowing what that pitch count is. If it's 70 or less, it would be unlikely for him to get through the lineup twice. Twice through would be 18 batters. He would have to average just 3.9 pitches per batter. Even at a 90 pitch limit, that is only a 5 pitch per batter average; which is doable but only with a "quality start" outing. In the minors, it might just be as simple as building up his endurance (and confidence).

    At first, I thought you meant Batting Practice (BP) pitcher. I think Twins Daily should have an easily accessible glossary of standardized abbreviations. Sometimes I feel like I'm back at meetings when I worked and couldn't understand half of what was being said because of all the acronyms being used.

    I played competitive (?) sports for over 60 years. My experience (and I am only speaking for myself) is that after the first pitch is thrown or the opening faceoff (or in my case, the first shot I faced), it's pretty much a game just like all the others. And that held true from Little League when I was seven until adult hockey when I was 70.

    Who cares? If the Twins had traded for a reliever, in my OPINION, they probably had a 50/50 chance at improving the team. But at what cost. No one who writes for or comments on TD articles actually sits in on trade negotiations. But there are a lot of comments like "throw a few bucks" or "it wouldn't take much" that are being made. All speculation. And my most important point is (again this is my OPINION), what Hawkeye Bean Counter wrote was his OPINION. To call it "idiocy" or telling him he's wrong is incorrect. Opinion isn't right or wrong! Just because you have a different OPINION, it doesn't make either opinion right or wrong.

    Duh! Pick up the option and figure it all out at spring training. A lot of commenters have mentioned CF as a problem but no one (yet) has mentioned that both Lewis and Martin could fill that area. Lots of decisions to be made in March and April next year and all winter for us to tell the Twins' front office how to make those decisions. Now, if only they would listen to us.

    I took would like to see Jenkins promoted. Why not? One more week shouldn't faze an 18-year old. Is it my imagination or have the names of Jose Salas and Noah Miller been showing up in these recaps fairly often over the last month?

    Yeah. I guess you never can have too many guys on your roster that have batted .166 over the past four years.

    The title of this article is a little deceiving. This is just a numerical listing of Twins players by WAR. If it were actually a list of most valuable contributors, I think MAT, Solano, and Castro would be much higher.

    No new information but another "can Buxton stay healthy" article. Why worry about something that you have no influence over? Move along, folks. Nothing to see here.

    If the Twins believe that Ober will be a starter, then sending him to St. Paul was the correct move. Working an inning or three every few days doesn't prepare him for starting. And, while I'm here, mentioning service time as a reason for sending Ober to St. Paul is grasping at straws. A month in the minors isn't going to impact a player like Ober who will have a very nice career in the majors.

    Gallo would be better than an actual center fielder who possesses speed (both in center field and on the bases) and can hit some HRs and for a higher average?? I would prefer Stevenson (and Martin as a backup) over Gallo.

    I think DocBauer hit the nail on the head. When Julien just reacts, like on a hard hit ball or a diving stop, his fielding is decent. It's when it's a routine play and he has time to think about all the possible negative outcomes, he is more prone to a negative outcome. And, from my perspective, that's not uncommon for a player with limited experience.

    Three bad games out of four? Big deal. Just keep in mind that a .300 hitter fails 7 times in every 10 at bats.

    The Twins are stretching out both Varland and Murphy in St. Paul in relief roles. If they replace Sands and Winder, and the Twins move Maeda or Keuchel to the bullpen, the Twins should have a formidable relief core for the playoffs. And (as long as I'm dreaming), if Paddock returns in late September, he will be another bullpen arm.

    The 2023 draft picks seem to be mentioned every day in the minor league highlights. I think a post-season, end-of-year summary of the performances by those drafted in 2023 would be a nice end to the minor league season.

    Maybe Martin and Lee haven't shown they can hit at the ML level. But could that be because they haven't been given the chance to show it? Last fall, as the Twins were plummeting in the standings, the FO office kept putting a Keystone Cops lineup on the field when they could have given opportunities to minor league guys to show what they have. This year, it's keeping with Gallo instead of giving anyone an audition. You can't show your abilities untill you are given a chance.

    It appears that many responders forgot your basic premise of getting a legitimate ML (or ML adjacent) pitcher as the return for Julien.
