  1. Who are these "more than enough suitors" for players like Kepler, Gallo, Larnach, Castro, etc? I don't see anyone beating down the doors to trade for any one of those.
  2. Here's an idea. If the Reds need pitching, how about trading Sonny Gray for this minor leaguer named Chase Petty?
  3. I stand corrected. Thanks. I had recorded the game and it was about 1:00AM here in Maine when it happened. I may have nodded off for a moment when the defensive change was made. And the Red Sox announcers weren't much help. They said it was Julien batting.
  4. And yet, he pulled Julien who was 2 for 3 against Whitlock (and a left against right matchup) for Farmer to set up a right against right matchup. Huh?
  5. Does Wallner frustrate you or did you mean you're frustrated with how the FO is handling Wallner?
  6. I would also try to move Vasquez (if the return is good), Gallo, Castro, and Polanco.
  7. I think that most of the comments supporting Gray could be summarized thusly: "I think Gray is right because I hate Baldelli, always have, and always will."
  8. I believe Madea is a character played by Tyler Perry. And a prominent figure in Greek literature.
  9. Let me see if I understand your thinking. The Twins, as a team, have potential. But, despite that potential, they have little chance of advancing in the playoffs against elite teams. Therefore, you wouldn't try too hard to improve the Twins but you also wouldn't trade with contenders in hopes of being better next year. The end result of this strategy is that the Twins begin 2024 with a team that has potential but no chance in the playoffs (if they make it that far). This doesn't appeal to me at all. I do agree that there is some potential and that they can't compete with the big dogs. The Twins have to get better to win games in the playoffs. And one of the best ways is to trade anyone that is not a meaningful piece of the 2024 version of the Twins for younger players with potential. I would rather see a young team full of potential than a team that has a very good chance of not getting past round one of the playoffs (if they even make the playoffs).
  10. It appears from this article that reaching 150 innings in one season is like climbing Mt. Everest. The baseball season is just over six months long. 150 innings over six months comes out to 25 innings per month or about six innings a week. To get paid millions for only six innings a week of work is ridiculous. If a starter feels strong and is pitching well, leave him in the game until he isn't. Nolan Ryan pitched for 27 seasons and averaged just under 200 innings a year (6.67/game). Bert Blyleven pitched for 22 seasons and averaged 226 innings a year (7.1/game). Athletes are better conditioned today? Maybe for bodybuilding or going to the beach. Certainly not for pitching it seems.
  11. Buxton and Correa are both hitting barely over Mendoza line. But at least Correa is contributing on defense. What an arm.
  12. Interesting tweet. Wallner hit his eighth home run and now has a HR in 21 straight games.
  13. It was just sarcasm - not a call for a trade.
  14. A new drama is coming soon to the Netflix - Baldelli and Gray. A containment-specialist asset battles against not only the forces of evil, but also against his own handler. How long will his bull dog attitude keep him on the job before the by-the-book management ships him off to some hell hole (Oakland or Kansas City perhaps)? Tune in every five or six days to find out.
  15. YES! The removing of Lewis for Kepler was the best example of bad use of the opposite handed theory. Lewis hits right-handed pitchers far better than Kepler. They will never learn how to hit same-side pitchers if they never get an opportunity to do so. And pinch hitting in the early innings is really stupid. By the third inning, you have burned through your bench players. Idiotic is a polite term.
  16. The baseball draft is such a crap shoot that I don't spend much time thinking about it. That being said, I do like reading articles like this and compare it to the actual results. With three picks in first fifty, I just hope the Twins hit on at least two of them and hopefully all three.
  17. The game was not available here in the Northeast so I have a question. Why did Kepler pinch hit for Lewis? Lewis is hitting almost 130 points higher than Kepler (and about 80 points higher against right-handed pitchers). I thought metrics were the guide? Did Lewis get hurt?
  18. I'm trying real hard to understand what this FWAR/WAR crap is about. But if either uses where a player positions himself when the pitch is delivered, then I can't accept it as valid. Since Cuddyer was used above as an example, I'll use him also, If the manager of the team uses metrics to have Cuddyer play shallow one year and deep the next year, why is Cuddyer rated as a poor fielder one year and a good fielder another? He's the same damn player. My belief is that the the eye test works better in determing if a player is good or bad. I don't need metrics to tell me Kepler is an improvement over Sano in RF. I can determine that by just watching.
  19. Here's another "one last thought". I would not put much effort in going outside the organization for additional help this year. It might get the Twins into the playoffs but only for the first round (and yes I know about the Phillies last year). It's time to think of the bigger picture. Get the younger players up from the minors and see how they do, Sell older players at the deadline to teams that have a chance to win. As for Pagan, he is on the team because he has "stuff". Personally I would rather have a guy that can get someone out than a guy with "stuff" and hasn't ever used it.
  20. From what I'm reading, the "technical approach" to hitting is favored by Popkins and the front office. That may be the source of the problem. A good hitting coach should take advantage of what a player does well and tweak that to enhance success. It appears that Popover and the FO try to remake every batter to fit some technically developed hitter. That won't work.
  21. I think Kepler will be very much in demand when August arrives. School districts everywhere are always needing substitute teachers.
  22. I mentioned him yesterday as an addition to the roster when I commented on a "let the kids play" remark by DocBauer. Maybe I have psychic abilities???
