  1. I was so glad to read your excellent article, which contained great stats. Vasquez is my kind of catcher. The Twins pitchers should be ecstatic. Now if only the Twins pitchers had a Platinum Glove or Gold Glove SS AND a healthy Platinum Glove CF to make some great fielding plays behind the ecstatic Twins pitchers.
  2. Eleven Defensive Runs Saved last year, tied Vasquez with Realmuto in 4th place among catchers plus an extremely quick pop time release, plus a good veteran clubhouse presence, who has been on two WS Championship teams...that's my kind of catcher. Great signing FO. Thank you.
  3. Winning attracts winners. The Twins must start winning consistently and pay accordingly. I submit the Twins must over pay in order to prime the pump of winners wanting to come to Minnesota to play with other winners. Once the Twins become like the Yankees or the Dodgers, who are consistent winners, other winners will want to come to Minnesota to play baseball.
  4. Both Vasquez and Correa are from P.R. I hope they are good friends.
  5. Yep, that seems to be the case here.
  6. Why to delay in getting the most critical need which the Twins have for 2023, a catcher?
  7. I really enjoy Arraez as a hitter and an exciting player. I enjoy his positive interviews. However if we could get a young catcher who can hit some and play good defense, with a strong arm and call a great game, then trade Arraez for the catcher now. Catching is the Twins current weakest position on the major league team and the current weakest position among the Twins' prospects. Trade Arraez for a catcher and then draft some catchers.
  8. If the catchers call the games, then why is having a cerebral catcher not the main criteria for a catcher?
  9. I heard that I guy I know, told my brother-in-law at the barber shop, who told his barber to remind my barber to tell me that there was a rumor that the Twins are trading Arraez for Lopez as early as Saturday.
  10. Do you think that the Twins low payroll may be the only reason the Twins are still in Minnesota, because the Twins organization, as it exists, is not capable of making much more gross income? If the owners spend much more money on expensive players, but have few fans attending games and have a low paying tv deal, resulting in little revenue and no profit, then the Twins organization will lose money. And if the business is losing money, then the business owners may want/need to sell the business to the highest bidder and the highest bidder may live in North Carolina and want to move the Twins to Charlotte? So Twins fans who live in Minnesota, be grateful for low spending owners. This is the only reason the Twins are still a Minnesota team. 11. Who made the sorry Twins tv deal 11 years ago? Don't you folks in Minnesota watch tv?
  12. Have you ever heard the expressing of "spending money like a drunken sailor"?
  13. No more eggs in the "if" basket. No more iffy basketed eggs.
  14. I ask again, "How much is enough?" Would you pack up your family and move to NYC for a 10% raise over what your current salary is now? Not me. How if your current salary were doubled? Not me. How about if your current salary were increased 10 times? (Only now do I consider moving to NYC... but then I'm a small-town boy from North Carolina.)
  15. Exactly. Thanks Nashville.
  16. Yes, but remember in times of inflation, the same item which costs 300 million dollars today, will cost more in the future, simply due to inflation. Therefore, if a player wants 300 million dollars, it would be wise to back load much of the 300 million and to stretch the contract out as long as possible, since there is no interest being added to the remainder of the 300 million which is due to be paid down the road.
  17. Choose one of the following reasons for the huge contracts we are seeing: 1) all those millions of dollars which the owners got from PPP loans which did not have to be repaid. 2) The reasonable forecast of rapidly advancing inflation 3) Increased tv revenue, 4) climate warming. As for me, I choose answer number 2. To quote James Carville, "It's the economy, stupid".
  18. If the Twins are not willing to pay top dollar for an ace FA pitcher, then the draft is the next best way to finally get an ace FA pitcher is to draft pitchers early and frequently, hire the best pitching development coaches and advisors and pay them well, and develop many pitchers, with the hope that one will make an ace in 3 -4 years.
  19. Waldrep's strikeout numbers are impressive. But each of these pitchers has another season to pitch before the draft. I do hope the Twins chose to draft a durable, top pitching prospect with the number 5 pick.
