  1. Good article. Lots of great discussion. I have to believe that out of Lee, Lewis, Miranda, Martin, Gordon, Kirilloff, Larnach, and Walner that the Twins will find a 1B, 2B, 3B, LF and RF. Leave C4 at SS and Buck at CF and build around them. Miranda is limited to 1B or 3B and Walner and Larnach are limited to OF. Kirilloff is limited to 1B and OF and looked extremely smooth at 1B. Lee, Lewis, Martin and Gordon were/are all SS's and can probably play anywhere. I wonder if there is a catcher in this bunch? If I were an IF prospect, other than Miller and possibly Salas, and other than those mentioned here, I'd strongly consider catching.
  2. I agree Bly. Play each inning, each pitch, each practice, each meal, each night's sleep with the goal of victory in mind.
  3. Recipe for "Twins Success" cake. The oven was turned on preheat last week. It is warming up. It's almost time to mix the various ingredients, which have been accumulated this winter, and are on the counter, waiting to be measured and mixed. The mixing should be slow and deliberate and the recipe should be followed. The baking temperature and the timing should be exact. While the cake bakes, we will all sing, "We're Gonna Win Twins". When the timer goes off in November, we will gently remove the cake from the oven, and we shall all sing, "We Are the Champions" and enjoy a piece of celebratory "Twins' Success" cake.
  4. Thank you for these updates, Nick. All of us at TD are on pins and needles about each of these players. But I cannot imagine how anxious these injured players must be to put their bodies to the test and see if the surgeries, therapies, workouts, and medicines have cured their injuries and to find out if they can perform at their self-imposed expectations. It is not just a question of whether he can help the Twins, but it is a deeper question. Baseball has been, and remains, vitally important to each of these athletes' self- identity. "Who am I, if I'm not a baseball player?" I realize we are more than our occupations, but many of us reply with our occupation when asked: "What do you do?" In fact we are so much more than our occupations. However these players are so dedicated to their profession and so many people are working to help each player realize maximum achievements, including a manager, coaches, trainers, fellow teammates, nutritionists, therapists, medical personnel, agents, accountants, lawyers, financial advisors, family, friends. The question of: "Am I healed?", has to weigh heavily on each of these players.
  5. Really good post Tony and Rodney. You and I are on the same page on everything you just posted. You even mentioned my pet peeve, the trading of Petty. I really am glad the Twins got Gray, but I absolutely hated losing Petty.
  6. Wonderful article Alex. Your proposed plan of patiently waiting for the trade deadline to approach in all it's majesty, and, if the Twins are serious contenders, (which they should be with the deep, strong team that has been built in Minnesota) then just before the trade deadline, trade for an ace to be used the first game of each series in the playoffs, sounds logical. But please do not trade any good pitching prospects and no catching prospects. (Not that the Twins have any catching prospects to trade anyway.)
  7. Who gets 3B? Lee, Lewis, Correa or Miranda? Who gets 2B? Lee, Lewis, Julien or Polanco? Who gets SS? Correa or Lewis? Who gets 1B? Kirilloff or Miranda? The Twins are loaded with good young infielders. 7 very promising young players. Does one or two get moved to the OF...say Lewis, who may be the second best fielding SS on the team, or will Martin make this decision difficult? I know the national "experts" may disagree, but the Twins are loaded. Vasquez and Jeffers at C. Plus the Twins currently have the best 4 fielding OF'ers in the majors. 6-7 good major league ready SP's, a solid relief staff led by "Mr. Dynamite", Johan Duran, and I'm going to stop typing this post now and contact a guy named Bruno in Las Vegas and lay down some money on the Twins winning the World Series.
  8. I think Brad Hand would be my pick at a lower price. Say 2 million. Please feel free to tell me to hand Hand more money, if you feel I'm too low.
  9. Good question. If he makes the team in his home town, he will be thrilled. If he gets a real chance to show the Twins what he's got and he gets DFA'd, he will not be happy about it, but he got his chance. It will not hurt the Twins, if they decide to cut him. He had a legitimate chance to make this team. Or if the signed veteran has a chance to make the team, there are others who can be DFA'd. Which of these two relievers would you rather take a chance on: Pagan or Hand or Magill? That is the real question.
  10. I don't see any compelling reason to not add Brad Hand to the 40 man roster and then see how the relievers look during spring training. He has been very good in the recent past and has potential to be really good this year, especially at home in Minnesota. He could invite all the Twins relievers to his Minnesota home for a BBQ.
  11. I really wish Royce Lewis the very best in his career as a Twin. He is a special player and appears to be a very positive person. With Lewis, Correa, Buck on a team, the positivity will be enormous.
  12. I'm arriving March 4th and staying until March 11th. I hope to visit with some of you there. We ought to have TD hats or tee shirts to wear, so we can i.d. each other as TD members. Maybe TD can issue official TD Press Passes to each of us TD posters and contributors, if we promise to write an article about our experiences at Spring Training. I'm also looking forward to talking with Do Park of MLB.com. We met last year and had a pleasant conversation. If you are going to be there March 4-11 and want to say hello, look for me. I'll probably be wearing an olive drab Second Infantry Division baseball style hat, sun-glasses, sun screen and maybe an Imjin Scout tee shirt. I'll be there some mornings and at the Tigers, Orioles and Dominican Republic games at Hammond Field. The first beer is on me. Play Ball ! David Benbow, aka tarheeltwinsfan
  13. As long as we are discussing injuries, has anyone else noticed that Carlos Correa's metal plate in his ankle began to vibrate 4 months and 8 days before the Chinese spy balloon was first sighted over the US? * I suppose with some of the folks who have been elected to our current congress, I should post a disclaimer and say that I was trying to be funny here.*
  14. The most difficult player to replace is Buck. Therefore I agree with Puckstopper1, it begins and ends with Buck. However, I worry most about Kirilloff, because his career is at stake, more so than any of the others. And poor Royce Lewis who has had terrible luck. For all its beauty, baseball can be a cruel game.
  15. I may be wrong here. The definition of a baseball franchise includes the term "at a specific location". Washington is not Minnesota. But I still like the historical connection to the old Washington Senators franchise, which moved its franchise to Minnesota. Walter Johnson, Joe Cronin, Sam Rice, Goose Goslin and Heinie Manush are all Washington Senators in the Hall of Fame. If we included the old Washington Senators along with the Minnesota Twins on our franchise Mt. Rushmore, and based our selection solely on WAR, the players would rank as follows: Walter "Big Train" Johnson 164.9; Rod Carew 81.2; Goose Goslin 66.4; Joe Cronin 64.7; Harmon Killebrew 60.3; Joe Mauer 55.2; Kirby Puckett 51.2; Sam Rice 54.4 and last, but not least, Heinie Manush 48.0.
  16. You beat me to this post. I was going to put the same thing. I feel it is important to include the Washington Senators in these type of things. It's our franchise history.
  17. I know time will tell, however I am interested in Chase Petty's future in the Reds' organization. He is the one traded prospect that I feel should not have been traded, but I do like what Sonny Gray has done for the Twins.
  18. Thank you for this positive, yet realistic, look at the Twins for 2023. I feel the Twins, as constructed for 2023, are > Twins of 2022. (Vasquez>Sanchez; Taylor> any of the substitutes used in 2022 in CF and/or RF; Maeda> Bundy; PLopez> Archer; Gallo> Sano (based mainly on fielding, but partially on off field distraction possibilities), Bullpen collectively> than relievers in 2022, Miranda at 3B> than Urshela at 3B, Mahle> numerous AAAA starters used through 2022; Farmer> Palacios; 2023 Depth> 2022 depth. One question: who will be coaching 3B in 2023?
  19. Very clever. Has anyone ever told you that you'd make a good attorney?
  20. Who will be the other 4 starters if Ober is one of the 5?
  21. Possibly Correa's 2022 fielding data was negative due to his right ankle, which was merely hanging on to his lower shin bone by a single ligament, according to the Giants and the Mets.
