  1. The positive takeaway from this game is they might have found a pretty good RP in Brock Stewart. Unfortunately, he does not have any options, but he is under team control through 2027. He looked great this spring and in AAA and so far been pretty impressive at the ML level. Get Henriguez back and I am feeling pretty good about the BP.
  2. The argument used to be that he used a spreadsheet and did not ever consider what he was observing. It sounds like what you really want is for him to leave the SP in no matter what he observes. I did not think Ryan looked very good in the 6th. Do we want him to leave the SP in until he unravels, or do we want him to exercise so judgment and avoid a good start gone bad? Seems like the answer for you is to always leave him in which is ironic given you have accused Rocco of not be capable of adjusting to how well a SP is pitching in a given game.
  3. Castro goes down for Farmer in the near future. Larnach – I would think they would rather keep Larnach at the MLB level because crushing it at AAA will prove nothing at this point. They need to figure out if he is going to hold down a corner OF spot going forward because they don’t have many good options. The best thing for the team in the next 2 weeks might be to send him down but the best thing for the next 5+years is to give him a chance to be a core member of this team. Gordon – 6 weeks ago many people were lobbying for him to be a starter. A 40AB cold streak and we should DFA him. The last 20 Abs he has a 195 wRC+. Gordon is a good 26th man at least until a better option becomes apparent. Kepler – Slightly above average offense and great defense is not a problem and moving him at this point does not make us a better team. If they get a good offer, great, but for now he is not the best answer. Solano is a downgrade defensively at any position we would play him and he is not an impact bat. He is also not going to be here next year. This seems like the best solution to me but they are not going to cut an established veteran until they are sure Kirilloff can play in 80-90 percent of games. The only way to do that is to play him in 25 out of 30 games at AAA. Miranda. He has nothing to prove at AAA either but I am really tired of watching his Eddie Rosario impression. They need to come up with a plan because he is pretty useless at this point.
  4. Do we allow this kind of insight and rational thinking here? Now that the theory Rocco pulled pitchers early because of a spreadsheet has been blown out of the water we need a new complaint. Then, you go and point out the facts that suggest he was actually reacting to what was going on with pitcher and acting accordingly. Next you are going to tell us that the other teams have players that sometimes simply beat you.
  5. Henriguez could be a nice add to the BP. Hopefully he is looking sharp in a couple weeks and fills that multi-inning relief role for the rest of the season. I could see Henriquez and Headrick making a great pair in the BP. Farmer was making me feel pretty good about the Urshela trade but we can all feel great about it if Hidalgo turns out to be a decent major league player. Performing this well out of the gate in A+ ball at 19 is pretty impressive. The strikeouts look good for Balazovic but the walks have been a big problem for quite some time. It sure would be great to see him get a grip on his command over the course of the season.
  6. It would have been an entirely different game had they been reasonably disciplined on that pitch. Miranda doing it over and over in key situations is frustrating to watch. Correa has been chasing all spring.
  7. Are you in favor of Buxton and Lewis sharing the CF position? Lewis plays a corner OF spot part-time and backs up Correa. Maybe even plays 3B when needed.
  8. Perhaps not and I would not be disappointed if he sticks around. He does a lot of things right. That said, Lewis COULD be the ideal complement to Buxton. He could be close to Taylor defensively and he has a much higher offensive ceiling. Taylors wRC+ for the last five years is 71/74/76/76/90. If he stays at 90 that's one thing. If Lewis comes up and produces 25% above league average like he did in his short stint last year and Taylor goes back to a wRC+ of 75-80 that would warrant moving Taylor and playing Lewis IMO. A couple other considerations are Taylor is a rental and Lewis is hopefully a huge part of the future. Then there is the logjam in the infield of other top prospects. They are going to have to find a spot to play Lewis.
  9. This is all more complicated short-term (May) than it is long-term (July). There are two or three transitions that are the most key. Kirilloff proves healthy and displaces Solano. Lewis proves ready and replaces Taylor or Gordon. The third is finding room for Julien. Julien's inclusion will be a product of other transitions and/or injury so we could come up with multiple ways he becomes a regular part of the active roster. If we think in terms of combinations of players improving the roster construction, the combination of Lewis/Julien or Lewis/Martin could replace Taylor and Gordon.
  10. They traded away a bunch of assets to bolster the team last year. According to many here we absolutely had to do this because we were in first place. Personally, I didn't think that team was even remotely a contender given the injuries that had already happened prior to the deadline. That said, it's hardly fair to complain in the context of after they graduate Varland, SWR, Julien, Lewis, and Wallner. Ryan, Miranda, Kirilloff, Larnach, Jax, Winder, and Duran are also recent graduates. SWR and few others have also made their debut. What would you expect to happen after graduating over a dozen players in a season and a half? There are also a few guys like Priellip and Canterino that are out of sight and therefore out of mind but they could be real difference makers if we can get them healthy. Three picks in the top 50, especially #5 will also hopefully help rebuild the system and they should also end up with a couple comp picks from qualifying offers after this season.
  11. No. Milb options are listed at the top of the player's page on Fangraphs.
  12. Quintana is out. Sydergaard was mediocre last year and bad this year. Nobody wanted Odorizzi. Montgomery has been a good trade but he was traded for an established CF. I am not sure how we could have gotten that trade done. It's easy to speak in the form of generalities. It's pointless to insist there were other solutions unless you actually make a case for the feasibility of something specific.
  13. Contreras has been great. I wonder if he gets traded to a team that will give him a chance at the ML level?
  14. We already are trying to figure out how to get promising young players onto the active roster. At some point you have to work Varland / Kirilloff / Lewis / Julien / Winder and others into the active roster. We can continue to be just good enough to get into the playoffs but the only way this team becomes a serious contender is to develop the good young talent we already have. The Phillies did not get better last year because of trades. Fans like to think the answer is another teams players but improvement more often comes from within.
  15. Kepler is not going to bring a top prospect but the Yankees have 8 pitching prospects in their top 7-16. That will certainly help if the two teams discuss a trade for Kepler. I suspect he will have to play pretty well for them to be willing to part with a decent pitching prospect. The option on Kepler for next year would probably help a bit too.
  16. I am looking forward to Buxton in CF 4 days and Lewis 3 days/week. The way to make room for Kirilloff is to cut Solano. That's not going to happen unless they are sure of Kirilloff's health. My guess is Kirilloff is optioned tomorrow and kept in AAA until they are confident he can handle playing 5 or 6 days/week.
  17. It's still April for god sake. Let's talk in a couple months. Many / MANY questions to answer before we have a clue of how to set-up for the 2nd half.
  18. The Whitesox have had four 90-win seasons since the turn of the century. They don't look good going forward either. The Twins have a bunch of young talent and more on the way very soon. This franchise is in a much better position for the next few years.
  19. We did not hold on to him long enough to determine what he could do. He had a total of 267 PAs while with the twins and lots of people here had the pitchforks out at 150 ABs. He has a grand total of 352. He might end up to be great or mediocre but why should we feel good about dumping a guy who is absolutely crushing it. He still has a milb option left and he could have been kept on the 40 man.
  20. You make room when a guy is crushing it the way Rooker is now. Who knows what level he sustains but his OPS is 300 points higher than Buxton. We have quite a few guys presently and going forward that can cover a lot of defensive positions. He would look really good as a DH on this team.
  21. Miranda will probably have to be an 800+ OPS guy to keep that spot much beyond the start of 2024. I hope he does that and more. That's kind of the first linchpin here. If Miranda sticks at 3B, Lee or Lewis probably end up at 2B. Lewis might end up being the most adaptable utility guy ever. He could play a corner OF spot while backing up Correa and Buxton. He could be incredibly valuable in that type of role. If Martin picks up where he left off in the AFL, those two guys would be incredible for covering injuries and days off. That scenario also makes it easier to carry Julien who is not strong at any defensive position.
  22. If you look at how Tampa Bay has built their teams over the past 20 years, the answer is yes. They have built their teams around moving players like Kepler or better. They got Rassmussen by trading Willy Adames. I hope Wallner gets a chance to prove himself this year so if we know what to expect if he replaces Kepler. Wouldn't it be something if they ended up resigning Gallo given how he got slammed here. Could we end up making him a qualifying offer? That would be a nice bonus if we ended up with a great year from him and then a compensation pick as a bonus.
  23. Did Hayes report anything from the team in terms of how his wrist is responding?
  24. Let's hop Buxton can eventually play 50% of games in CF. They have Gordon / Gallo / and Kepler who are all capable of a limited role and eventually Lewis should be the primary back-up. I am really on the fence in terms of when to bring Kirilloff back because we just don't have enough information. With what we know today, it makes sense to option him until he can play 6 days a week.
