I had the same thought but I just don't know how to predict who might fall, especially this early. Right now it looks pretty certain the 1st pick will be an OFer. Some of the national guys say there is a big drop off after #5 but maybe someone else rushes up the board. I guess what I would hope for is a high ceiling pitcher at 34 and a catcher at 49. Don't get me wrong, draft the best available. I just hope that includes a pitcher and a catcher.

I don't support booing either. I was just confused because of your past support. I thought you were speaking of your dollars and I guess you were coming from the angle others should voice their opinion through their wallets. Of course, the net of that is we demand the team spends but we won't support the spending if it does not work out as well as we like. That's just the reality with professional sports teams but we should acknowledge that we demand spending but only spend ourselves if not only that player but the whole teams does well. That's the way it should be. I am just saying we might not recognize that we expect their financial commitment while reserving the right to withhold ours if the plan we support even demand does not work out.

The flexibility in the future would be crazy if Hellman is a legit breakout prospect. Can you imagine the flexibility when Lewis gets here with Hellman, Castro, and Gordon on the bench. Hopefully, Martin is better than all of them and displaces one of them. That would make it easy to have Julien on the roster as a primary DH. I had kind of written off Balazovic. It would be great if once again becomes one of our best pitching prospects. The same could be said for Canterino who is presently out of sight and out of mind..

I sure hope what we are seeing indicates Kirilloff's wrist problems are gone for good. I thought of all of the question marks coming into this season, Kirilloff's health and return to form was the most important of those things to be answered in a positive way. I sure would like to watch him in the middle of the line-up for the next several years.

I think your portrayal of the situation is fair. I too am happy for Rooker. I am just not happy our that organization won't be benefiting from his performance, especially given they never invested a modest number of Abs in him. I also thought this example and others like him should be considered when fans are ready to dump other young players before they are given a reasonable chance.

Baseball is Bringing the Best Rule Change Yet
Major League Ready replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What if we could find 15 humans that could call the balls and strike perfectly. Would you remove all others and put the 15 people who did it perfectly behind the plate for every game?- 70 replies

Baseball is Bringing the Best Rule Change Yet
Major League Ready replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't like this interim step because of the delay but calling the strike zone electronically would be instantaneous, so this is a really poor foundation on which to argue against an automated strike zone. We all love baseball just like you and we are all aware of how different the outcome is ahead or behind in the count. A bad call often significantly changes an AB and that diminishes the product. These bad calls punish a pitcher or batter for taking a good AB or making a great pitch. It changes the game. So, for some of us, this is just unacceptable if the technology is available to get it right, especially given this form of review would require absolutely no delay.- 70 replies

Roster Crunch? Who stays, who goes?
Major League Ready replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I like MAT and have no problem if he remains here the rest of the year. I always give more weight to the long-term impact and Lewis taking that role would be great for the team. It's really too bad they drafted Cavaco instead of Carroll. We would have the perfect combination had they picked Carroll who was at the top or near top of the best available at the time. -
Baseball is Bringing the Best Rule Change Yet
Major League Ready replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What a shock ... An umpire is against taking away something from umpires. Why should players have to figure out what "strike zone" an umpire is using every game. When is something like this in any other business where technology could get it right every time accepted? A wrong call especially in call where it's 2:1 or 1:1 have a very significant impact on that AB. Why should we accept this when it's going to be relatively easy to rectify.- 70 replies

Roster Crunch? Who stays, who goes?
Major League Ready replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Would love to see Lewis here before the halfway point. That might be wishful thinking, but we could sure use him. He could play every day between CF/LF/3B not necessarily in that order. It would be just fine if Miranda did the same 180 he did last year and Royce mainly played 3B against LH pitching. Solano seemed like an insurance policy when they signed him. I no longer see the need if Kirilloff is truly healthy. That makes him the most expendable IMO. It would be another positive if Royce negated the need for MAT. Perhaps they could get something for him at the deadline. -
Sending him down last year worked great. Of course, I am kidding because he was back up immediately. However, maybe it will be a wakeup call. many of us did not support trading away that much for Mahle. He just is not that big of an impact. For me it was that last years team just did not warrant a big deadline push that traded away good long-term assets. Yes, many said we were in first place and had to go for it. To me, they may have been in first place but they were not even remotely a contender.

Baseball is Bringing the Best Rule Change Yet
Major League Ready replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hell No. Blown calls sway the outcome of games. Blown calls on pitches dramatically alter a plate appearance. I want the players to control 100% of the outcome not umpires. No way will I prefer an unfair result if it can be corrected to a significant degree.- 70 replies

Sure would like to see Rodriguez get it together. SSS but an average in the 150s is concerning.

Why use a stat that tells a small portion of the story. His OPS is 50 points below average and his wRC+ is 87. A singles hitter with a 328 OBP is not going to make any difference to this team. The real mistake was trading CES. I don't know if he could stick at 3B either, but he is crushing AAA pitching hitting 400 with 7 HRs. He has legit 40 HR potential with a high average.

Twins 3, Guardians 4: Klutzy in Cleveland
Major League Ready replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Focusing on players with one year of control instead of developing young players is a sure-fire way to be mediocre or worse on an on-going basis. You are also ignoring the fact that that Farmer gives us more flexibility and an extra year of control. Then, if Hidalgo becomes a decent major player, trading Urshela goes from a good move to great. -
You're Wrong to Not Like Max Kepler
Major League Ready replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I started out a huge Rosario fan. He was probably my favorite player. Now, I am just glad I don't have to watch the horrendous ABs he took swinging at balls a foot or more out of the zone. Heart is great until it makes you stupid and Rosario wanted to be the hero which probably contributed to the bad ABs and stupid plays in the OF. I don't want to watch that kind of baseball. I do agree that the production has been inadequate. However, to suggest Rosario would have been good had he stayed is blind bias IMO. He had not been good since the first half of 2018 so to suggest he would have been the answer is a huge leap. -
I was a big supporter of Urshela when others were complaining about the Donaldson trade. However, they replaced him with Farmer and Urshela currently has a wRC+ of 85. I will take Farmer's versatility and great bat against LH pitching for 2 years and less money plus a prospect over 1 year of Urshela every chance I get,

You're Wrong to Not Like Max Kepler
Major League Ready replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What does that have to do with the decision to let Rosario go? That decision should be evaluated based on what he did after he left. The relative production of those who followed is a different discussion. To complain they let him go would make perfect sense had he performed well after leaving. To complain they let him go when he has been absolutely horrible is absurd. Apparently, you thought it was a bad idea when he was let go and now you are ignoring the fact that he has been among the very worst OFers in the entire league. If you want to complain his replacements have not been significantly better, that's debatable and we can have that discussion. To argue it was a mistake to cut Rosario requires we ignore that he has been among the very worst corner OFers in the league. We were better off with pretty much anyone else so to keep arguing letting Rosario go was a mistake demonstrates a wildly biased lack of logic. BTW .... Kirilloff has been hurt which slowed the process but I would bet a lot of money Kirilloff performs far better going forward than Rosario has since he left or his last couple years with the Twins. Larnach has not been great but he has been better than Rosario. A better player on a rookie salary and $10M/yr to invest elsewhere is an absolute no brainer. -

Major League Ready replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Rosario produced 1.1 fWAR in 2019 and .9 on 2021. He produced .7 fWAR the year he left. After leaving he produced a negative 1.1 fWAR and he is replacement level this year. Kepler has been a more valuable player for the last several years. Extending Rosario would have been an enormous mistake. He is literally one of the worst corner OFers in the league. He has not been good since the first half of 2018. He was really great for half of a season in 2018 and a half season in 2017. -
Is Ryan Jeffers for Real?
Major League Ready replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He put in the work to change his swing and his throwing. So far so good and we will just have to see if those changes sustain better performance. I am not going to assume a player can't get better and stay that way.- 13 replies

I just don't know the answer. There are not many AAA pitchers that will expose this weakness the way ML pitchers expose it, so I doubt AAA is the answer. It opens a roster spot but it probably does not cure Miranda. The frustrating thing is as Chpettit pointed out, everyone knows it's coming and he still swings at it. It's just flat dumb. Time for some coaching.

I watched him quite a bit on Milb TV and I have been a BIG supporter. Last year and during this off-season I posted just how great he was after he was recalled. Even in the minors, the announcers talked about his improved plate discipline being a big part of him breaking out. It's frustrating because the lessons have not sticked. I know it's hard to lay off a high fastball but for God sake, try letting some go when you have proven you can't hit when you do swing. Pitchers are going to abuse him until he proves he won't swing at a pitch that is 4-8 inches above the strike zone.
