  1. Castro seems like the likely choice. Larnach goes down when Farmer is ready. Let's hope that the return of Polanco and Kirilloff kickstarts the offense. It would sure help if Correa, Miranda, and Buxton get in in gear too.
  2. Why would you want him to fail? I would much prefer he get back to the form where he was a dominant bat like he was June-August last year. Lewis and his athleticism could be better utilized elsewhere. He could play all three OF positions and fill-in at SS / 2B as needed. He could even take over 2B from Polanco at some point in the next couple years. I just don't understand fans hoping a young player with a high ceiling will need to be replaced. Ironically, there was very similar dialogue from many people here last year right before he went off. Given this history, I think we should all be hoping for what he is capable of instead of writing him off.
  3. If we look at it in terms of 2022, Urshela and Sanchez performed well. Miranda's production was better than Donaldson. IKF and Donaldson were both mediocre players so hardly a big loss. I might call it a push or slight win for the twins. If we look at in terms of 2023-24 and beyond, unloading the 21.75M this year and the $8M buyout next year as opposed to having Donaldson on the roster, it's a big win for 2023-24. If Henriquez is a decent long reliever or better, it's even better.
  4. The Twins lost nothing. They were out of it in 2021 so those two months were meaningless. He was literally replacement value last year so they nothing. I would guess he bounces back but it may very well end up being a win to simply have not signed him to an extension of length he demanded.
  5. Sure looks like it. The problem is making room in CR. They already have Cardenas / Mack and Morales. Wichita has 4 catchers on their roster. I think he might get held back until they think one of the CR catchers is ready to move up. One of the Wichita catchers could get cut.
  6. I thought they might keep Kirilloff at AAA for a while to prove he was truly ready but he sure looks ready out of the gate. A couple weeks anywhere near this pace and it would be hard to keep him down. Kirilloff and Polanco on the right side of the infield will be a welcome sight. Can anyone enlighten me as to Cossetti's relative ability defensively?
  7. It's kind of bizarre. It's more insulting than giving nothing above minimum at all. It certainly does not say we value you. I would like to know how they arrived at an amount of $100. That's got to be some interesting logic.
  8. Kepler has a wRC+ of 97 (basically league average) since 2020 and he is way above average defensively. They are not going to just cut him. He is still a 2 WAR player. It would also just simply be a bad look to cut a guy that has been with the team for this long. Not a good idea to treat players in such a manner. If they want to move him they will find a trade partner. Even if it's for a case of Gatorade.
  9. I was curious what other teams did for prearb guys. Here is Cleveland's prearb players. Three of them got $100 above minimum. What's that about? Steven Kwan 25 LF $727,300 Eli Morgan 27 RP 727,000 Nick Sandlin 26 RP 726,000 Oscar Gonzalez 25 OF 722,600 Gabriel Arias 23 SS 720,100 Will Brennan 25 CF 720,100 Xzavion Curry 24 RP 720,100 Tim Herrin 26 RP 720,000 Peyton Battenfield 25 SP 720,000 Tyler Freeman 24 SS 720,000 Brayan Rocchio 22 SS 720,000
  10. The good news is that only in a relatively best case scenario will these decisions be difficult, and we cut ties with some good players. Most likely case scenario it sorts itself out. Would love to see Larnach / Lewis / Julien and maybe even Martin force Gallo / Solano / Taylor and even Farmer out. That's a problem I would love to have.
  11. I am not buying this is a Joe Pohlad driven change in organization philosophy. Nothing changed. They were able to sign a great SP while only committing to three additional years. This is an entirely different situation than Jose Berrios. Let’s also not forget that they signed Buxton two years ago and Donaldson 3 years ago.
  12. I was thinking the same. It gets very interesting if they remain healthy. They likely keep Kirilloff at AAA until he proves healthy and productive. Obviously, they could do the same for Lewis and Julien but all three are guys that hopefully force their hands. Injury will very likely change this equation but I sure would like to see this problem occur. The order in which I would like to see them go. 1. One of Kepler/Gallo. More inclined to believe Gallo could have a big year and he is more versatile. 2. Solano because he is a FA at year end and it would likely mean Kirilloff is looking good. 3. Taylor if Lewis or Martin become worthy replacements 4. Polanco because that would mean Julien or Lewis forced a trade. They don't let Polanco go without a good return. 5. Gordon. 3 yrs remaining / versatile / good bench player. However, Martin might end up being a better version of Gordon. 6. Farmer. Idea l bench player put let him go if the offer is right and we have a replacement. 7. The other of Kepler/Gallo *** No hurry on moving Polanco but losing him because they have someone as good or better is a good thing.
  13. Does this mean they are buying his final arbitration year plus 3 years?
  14. I would like to see Winder get a shot at the long relief role. Henriguez is off the IL as of a day or 2 ago. Hopefully, he is OK and will also compete for that spot.
  15. Maybe he can emulate the Josh Hader role. Obviously, a top of the rotation SP would be ideal, but a high leverage RP would be a decent consolation prize, especially if he could pitch as many innings as Hader.
  16. or could it be that we finally have 5 pitchers that are worthy of pitching a 3rd time through the order? Did you want him to handle bad pitchers as if they were good pitchers?
  17. Correa getting back to normal is a big boost. Miranda is coming around and hopefully, Polanco is back soon also providing a boost. There is hope this team could be a real contender.
  18. Balazovic had 47 pitches last night and only 22 strikes. The lack of command was a problem last year too. Kinda weird because the walk rate was not bad earlier in his career. Could be less disciplined hitters at lower levels allowed him to get a way with it. Olivar made an impression last year and ended up on MLB's top 30 (at 27) Twins prospects. He had an OPS over 1. I have him on my watch list. We need a catcher to emerge and he is looking pretty good.
  19. Correa, and Miranda have sub 50 wRC+ and Gordon's wRC+is actually negative. Do you really think that will continue? Polanco and Gallo should be back in a week. There is a decent chance KIrilloff and Lewis will contribute by the half-way point too. Julien could enter into the equation as well. Let's not panic! Instead of forecasting 70 wins for a team that is off to a 8-4 start, let's also consider the possibilities with Correa, Miranda, and Polanco performing as expected.
  20. Not even remotely accurate. His base salary is $15M with the following incentives. MVP votes: 1st-$8M 2nd-$7M 3rd-$6M 4th-$5M 5th-$4M 6th-through-10th: $3M Also: $500K each for 502, 533, 567, 600 and 625 plate appearances.
  21. Buxton playing center would be a huge boost. We have a few guys that could DH and that would be a big upgrade from Taylor's 477 OPS. Add Polanco back and lineup is much better/deeper. Also agree with Mike that Julien should be getting some reps at 1B. He is not an immediate solution, but it would be nice to have him play some 1B if Kirilloff's wrist continues to be a problem. Correa and Gordon have been the biggest black holes in the lineup. Correa is going to come out of it. Replace the DH, get Polanco back and Correa on track and this will be a good offensive team. Trading away pitching prospects/depth when we already need to make room for Julien / Lewis and perhaps Wallner seems like a very bad idea.
  22. Let's not ignore what actually happened. Let's also not ignore the fact that Gordon (so far) has been the least productive hitter on the team with an OPS of 255 and Farmer has been great with a wRC+ of 147. Let's acknowledge it's probably not crucial to put a guy with a 105 average and a 255 OPS in the lineup against a really tough team.
  23. Not really. Quite often they need a couple days to see if it's some sort of strain that will allow the player to return after a couple days. If they react immediately the players is lost for longer than necessary. The player that replaced him did not play so nothing was lost.
