    I get it. This has not been a strength. However, drafting and development is a prerequisite to building a winning team with below average revenue. This is often taken position on TD as if there is an alternative strategy with any chance of succeeding. There is not. IYou are not taking this position but there are a quite few people who see little value in prospects when they are our best chance of building a contender. We should all be focused on the team getting better at this essential element of building a contender.

    Seems like a pretty good comp. A QO is not hard to imagine if the market for Jeffers is similar.

    He would have been roughly a 4 WAR player had he not broken his hamate bone. Jeffers is the only FA catcher anywhere near this level so scarcity will be his friend. I would guess 4/60.

    I like the idea of Keashall at 1B but I have never seen him play there. 1B is a good place to hide his throwing deficiency. Bring up Rodriguez to play RF and start the season with three OFers (Buxton / Walker) capable of playing CF. Non-tender Larnach. Martin and Clemens are you 4th and 5th OFers with Cody playing a super utility role. They also have Roden and Gonzalez for OF depth. Time to quit running the same players out there and expecting a different result.

    It's possible I guess it seems unlikely the Yankees would let the QO get in the way. What is Jeffers / Jeffer's agent thinking and I would guess they believe a big payday is coming. Perhaps more importantly, will the Twins make a QO?

    The unfortunate fact that Lee is hitting 2nd is just one of the signals that this team needed to be retooled this season. Lee is a decent player who should hit 6th or 7th on a team that is a legit contender. What they needed to do was add talent and they managed to find a way to get next to nothing for players that could have brought it the talent needed to get to the next level. We need only look at Chicago to see a stark contrast. They would not be looking at a playoff birth if not for the acquisition of Miguel Vargas who was acquired for Michael Kopech and Chase Meidroth who was acquired in the Crochett trade. Braden Montgomery and Kyle Teel also acquired in the Crochett trade. They have two drafted position players (Montgomery / Antonacci) who are contributing and the other player who has contributed is Murakami who of course was a free agent.

    Zoll does not make strategic decisions. He implements Tom Pohlad's decisions. Should we believe execution was the problem or was it strategic direction? Opinions vary but I think starting a sell-off and doing a 180 is pure incompetence. We don't really know what strategy Zoll believed supported building a contender. We do know that he would have joined Falvey in the unemployment line if he did not get on board with Tom Pohlad so I am not blaming Zoll.

    Culpepper has been the 2nd best hitter on the team since coming up. Ryan Jeffers has been the only tenured player to be slightly above average. The problem is the tenured players have been mediocre or bad in the case of Buxton / Larnach.

    I am not sure why anyone thinks Jeffers is signing a short deal which I would consider to be two years or less. Just not happening unless the Twins want to pay him very close to what he would get on a 4-year deal. Anyone think that will happen? Diaw and Lackey in 2028 should be a great Tandem. 2027 will probably not be great at the C position.

    Bradley / Matthews / Abel have to be there IMO because they offer something beyond 2027 and Matthews is earning it. I doubt they could get anything for Lopez so he stays even if he is not ready on opening day. I would trade Ryan if the return is an impact prospect but it's quite possible they managed turning what could have been Tolle / Arias into nothing of real consequence in which case they should keep him and see where things stand at the deadline. It they keep Ryan there are zero spots in the rotation to start the season. So what do they do with Ober and Kramer in that situation? Does one go to the BP and the other traded? That leaves Prielipp, Rojas, and Parades in AAA. Pretty fair depth I guess. IDK what to think for Festa . I have watched Quick quite a bit and he has not looked as good lately. He is not part of 2027. They should have targeted another AA/AAA arm for Jeffers.

    This IMO is the difference between Tampa / Cleveland / Milwaukee and the Twins. They understand that everyone gets 20 draft picks and they can't buy an advantage. Therefore, they must turn short-term assets into long-term assets if they are to amass enough impact talent to contend. If the report of Tolle / Arias for Ryan is true, that's the type of trade that elevates a team from a mid 80-win team to 90-win team. They also failed to cash in on Jeffers and to a lesser degree Larnach. This failure is one of the reasons we have perpetual mediocrity. It really rubs me the wrong way this time around because they well-positioned to rebuild very quickly. I think they will still be decent as soon as next year but they blew a chance to elevate the organization for several years based on the delusion this team was a contender.

    I will say this for him. His throws are very accurate. He makes it pretty stress free on the 1B. The power is ramping up too so I could see him being a 3 WAR player as he hits his prime.

    I have been keeping an eye on Ross for a couple years now. Good athlete and can play a lot of positions pretty well. I don't think the bat will play but it would be great if he surprised us all.

    They need to consider Lopez, Ryan, and Ober are free agents after next year. Sure, pitchers get injured and the other guys will get a chance but they need to start managing the roster long-term. Matthews was their best SP in August. I would not leave him off the opening day roster. Lopez is not bringing much in trade. I would move Ryan if they can still get an impact player or Ober if the return is not high on Ryan. Lopez / Bradley / Abel / Matthews and either Ryan or Ober still leaves Prielipp and Rojas in MILB. Kramer to long relief. They can use him as a starter when needed. They should also have Parades back for depth. IDK what to expect from Festa. One of Ryan or Ober needs to go and you could make a case for two of the three. If they are to become a contender, they need to develop Matthews, Abel, Rojas, and Prielipp into playoff caliber SPs.

    Maybe I was not following but I thought the discussion was that he is below average throwing out runners. No doubt it is a weakness. My only point was, and this is true of every player, we should look at both aspects of the game.

    The part being ignored is that Jeffer's wRC+ equates to roughly 15 runs above average. The net of those two numbers is a good player.

    Are you suggesting that two additional runs over the course of the season are important or are you suggesting the measure of 2 additional runs is a matter of opinion.

    I like the idea of Keashall at 1B. We need Houston to step up and push Culpepper to 2B. That's a better IF than we are accustomed to in MN. Match that with an OF that has Jenkins and Rodriguez and they should rate in the upper 1/3 defensively..

    Let's see .... They were bad in 2025. They lost one of their 2 top of the rotation SPs before the season started. The other looked suspect at the deadline as did their best position player. The guy they had to keep (Jeffers) in order to contend has am ops of .638 for the month. The other guy they kept (Larnach) has a .600 OPS for August. Their plan to replace the BP was to add Taylor Rogers and Anthony Banda. They actually decreased payroll again. Yet, Tom Pohald tells everyone he does not do half measures and this team must contend in 2026. I would hate to see a half measure if this was full-measure. Walker Jenkins was not going to put this team in contention. They were never a contender despite the insistence of Tom Pohlad. They managed to do slightly better than expected for part of the season by hitting out of their minds with RISP. That regression should not surprise anyone. Their plan for the year and the future is the pursuit of mediocrity. Tom Pohlad needs to find a guy to make the baseball decisions and stay out of the way.

    Duran and Jax both had 2 1/2 years left not 1 1/2. Trading away every decent RP on your team sure as hell is not an indication you are trying to contend. What were they trying to do with these moves trading for Abel , Rojas, and Bradley who had 4+ years of control if not rebuild? Falvey was removed because he and Tom Pohlad did not agree on direction. Pohlad wanted to go for it. Can we read between the lines and conclude Falvey wanted to continue the rebuild. Is there another direction other than try to contend or rebuild? Tendering Larnach tells us nothing. Maybe he thought he could get a prearb RP for him which would have saved money and filled a need. More likely, he believed Jenkins and Rodriguez were near ready, and he could eventually move Larnach to a 4th OF spot or out of the organization. That would not only be consistent with a rebuild strategy it would allow the team to time promotions with readiness as opposed to forcing the issue.
