thanks for clarifying payroll with arb estimates. I couldn’t agree with you more. Every trade the FO has done so far has been to bring back prospects, including Pressly who was still under contract for ‘19. Just cuz they haven’t traded the blue chips away yet, doesn’t mean they won’t. They haven’t shown their hand yet for 19, but in the short while they’ve been at the helm the trades have been of the prospect hording variety. All of the improvements to the current team have been of the low wattage free agency variety. I have more confidence in this FO to build a winner, I’m less confident it’ll be in ‘19

about 128 mil opening day to about 65 mil after World Series and turning over 30% of the active roster isn’t a tear down?

As of today, the Twins have 60-65 mil committed for 2019 and to really compete the roster needs to change 30% with significant questions about 2/3 of the cornerstone players. If that's not a rebuild, what is?

If the owner doesn't have the customer (fan) first of mind, then what is the point? just fold up shop... The thing is, the Twins org keeps renovating TF and they did make a change at GM, so clearly St Peter gets it. I'm just not sure JP does. I don't think JP knows the difference between a business and an investment. When he gets asked about his investment by sports media, the media members don't want to know about his ROI, they want to know about the business of the Twins. Successful business delight their customer. Successful investments make money for their shareholders and customer service is entirely out of the equation. So why do we continue to get business questions of the investor instead of the business man? Also, I wonder at what threshold does the approval process for outlays escalate from DSP to JP? Is it functional, or dollar value? Question 3, the deal for Target Field tied the Twins to the stadium for 30 years, negating contraction, why doesn't JP sell? The team was purchased for 44 mil, it's worth 1.1 bil - I don't care who owns the team as long as the lease holds the team to TF. https://www.forbes.com/teams/minnesota-twins/

we’re in an 8 year rebuild with no end in site. True, Falvey and Levine were hired because year 6 wasn’t any better than year 1 under TR, but that shouldn’t give the FO license to shoot for the decade.

Judy from Big Lake was spot on “First of all, I wanted to tell you what a horribly disappointing season this was for season-ticket holders; and I want to know how long do you think it’s going to be before you put a competitive team back on the field?” If Pohlad would rather not spend the money to buy pieces to a good team, then how long will it take to build a good team and will we the fans continue to buy tickets, concessions and shirseys? This really sounds bad in context with Mauer's retirement tribute of something to the effect of "I remember when we extended him, we were in Costa Rica on vacation" or something.

Agreed on all three, they should be on the waiver wire shuffle as free agency and trades start to go through

If your strategy to succeed is to invest heavily into analytics, then the coaching staff needs to be the conduit into the clubhouse. You can't say it's your strategy then dabble in it as a coaching staff. You must be "all in" on strategy. I like that the FO is finally implementing the strategy in earnest. I get the concern of work load changes between major leagues and minor, let alone, college - I was a vocal critic of Molitor's excessive usage of Pressly - I'm more concerned with the pitching coach and bullpen coach is if they can actually teach and provide valuable and new things to the staff. can they get through to the players? Time will tell, but at least at first blush, these two already will be evangelists of the strategy.

Article: Believe in Byron Buxton
Richie the Rally Goat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I get the FO side of the service time thing. I agreed with the Oncler when he kept biggering and biggering, that biggering was the right thing to do. However the Onceler failed to heed the Lorax that biggering needs to be sustainable. Consuming human beings’ output without considering their needs much like the other Bill James discussion.... James is right, just like Falvey is right, but they’re going about it wrong. Sustainability with human capital requires treating them well. I hope Buxton does a LeBron James and not a LeVeon Bell, but I don’t think Falvey can afford to find out which direction he goes, and will trade him. -

it’s not the “if”, it’s the “how”. Harper’s service time was managed on the front side, instead of getting demoted and not brought up for September with two weeks to go. -

Buxton is super 2, not arb 1, I get it. The point is that extra year came at the cost of trust. Money doesn’t fix trust. -

I think Buxton could be a superstar for someone else. If this was even a remote possibility why would Falvey screw around with arbitration timeline/eligibility? The value in an extended arbitration eligibility comes in lower contract, or return on trade. It might have been easier to negotiate a lower extension value after the team proposal being chosen by the Arbiter, and Buxton wouldn’t feel screwed by the Twins. 50 mil can fix a lot of things, but is trust one of them? If this is the plan now, why wasn’t it the plan in September? If it was the plan in Sept, why not bring him up to work with Rowson on the side and collect his two weeks? My guess is, the plan was to extend him or trade him, when extension talks failed, Falvey went down the trade route in August. -
https://www.mlb.com/news/2019-mlb-free-agents/c-293292274 The first base market doesn’t do a lot for me, so I’m on Tom’s track to improve DH, OF and middle infield via FA. Kepler is pretty much a lock to be my starting CF until Buxton forces his way up to the bigs.

All conjecture and I'm talking out of my rear end, but... Until 10 years ago he was able to play a 162 game season at a high level. but if he could play, he can travel and watch, coach, and manage - the exertion level has to be much lower as the manager. Speaking personally as a person who would be identified by others as "disabled", all I want is the opportunity to succeed or fail. Baldelli has shown the tenacity and competitiveness to be a major league baseball player. He's shown the mental toughness to gut out the physical demands of being a manager. All he wants is the opportunity to succeed or fail, and I applaud the FO to give him his shot based on his merit

Innovative - I want someone who can pull together all of the data, analysis, and experience to create a strategic advantage. All the information in the world doesn't mean diddly if you don't do something with it. Something creative that no one else has done before. Bullpenning, Launch Angles, Money ball, all things that are readily accessible to the media and fans. What are the tactics and strategies to be implemented from new learning?
