  1. I drank the kool-ade last season, when others were saying ‘19 or ‘20 is the window.... I feel foolish. I’m with you, this version of Gibby isn’t going to make it to ‘20 or ‘21
  2. If they sell (as I believe prudent) who the closer is, doesn’t really matter, as they won’t be getting any saves anyways. Rodney should stay the closer, he can tune up the bullpen car, maybe jazz it up with some cool decals. Time to get triple A guys some middle relief experience. My vote is Gonsalves should replace Belisle right away.
  3. If the price is right, absolutely trade him. Anyone for that matter.
  4. "The rise of 5 strikeouts per game average is not because the pitchers are better, it is the new game, and it makes Ks meaningless and boring." Please expand. I was really interested, but feel like your final premise concluded a bit prematurely.
  5. agreed. Speculatively, this could also be Falvey admitting that the organization is still a bit too hands off when it comes to developing players that are already major leaguers. Gardy used to whine about minor leaguers coming up unprepared for the bigs, the last few years of his tenure were a complete joke in terms of fundamentally sound baseball. Molitor’s teams are currently no better in terms of fundamentally sound baseball. It’s on the individuals to put in the work, but... It’s also on the organization to put its players in the best position to succeed. That’s systematic consistency, and it’s still not clear to me that it’s in place. I think real organizational change is currently in process. Again, what do I know? This could all be more of the same and we’ll never see the Twins develop another star ever again....
  6. I think you are on to something here. http://m.startribune.com/twins-send-miguel-sano-to-minors-after-loss-to-tigers/485595781/ I characterize Sano going to A+ ball as a resset. I imagine the conversation with Sano to have been “Look Miguel, you are extremely important to the organization and I’m not sure where things got off course, but we need to correct course. We can get you the best support in Ft Myers so you can get your strength in your legs back and your swing mechanics back in alignment” Falvey describes it as a reset, and I think it’s a reset from how Sano was managed by the old regime to how he will be managed going forward. I’m still in Sano’s corner despite my feelings about the offseason allegations. My hope for this young man is that 2017-2018 is a period that he can learn and grow from, and come out on the backside a better person and better player. It’s really difficult to make that kind of transformation without support and personal conviction. I think Sano has the personal conviction part. No one gets to the MLB without it. It appears that the support part from the Twins is changing and I think (hope) for the better.
  7. furthermore, was he not a roving minor league instructor for the core players? How is defensive miscues and baserunning gaffes not on him?
  8. there’s a difference between baseball strategy and tactics. It’s clear he’s not effective at communicating or implementing the tactics. That doesn’t take away from his intelligence. I firmly believe (with no solid proof of my own) that Molitor is a rocket scientist of baseball that may not relate very well to his players and gets paralyzed at times by overthinking the outcomes and not making the timely moves. It also seems that Molly wears out bullpen arms and trots out injured players that he trusts and takes their word for it. He’s not my guy, and I agree with the posters looking for relatable and bilingual
  9. who should bat 1-4? You’ve got Mauer and the Eds and then.... Who? Adrianza? Grossman? Please put together a lineup.
  10. AL East, West and Wild Cards are locked, all they have to do is win the Central huh?
  11. ftp://ftp.baseballgraphs.com/wpa/WinExp.xls The linked chart is to calculate Win Expectancy for the WE chart portion of the WPA calculator. Score impacts him negatively, but he can never blow a lead, so it’s mitigated a bit.
  12. i think you just gotta be patient. Keplers k% down, bb% up, hard hit % up, soft hit % down, BABIP down.... he’s doing everything right but hitting into slight shifts. I don’t think a minor league assignment will help, and sure don’t think Cave will be better. BTW the strib article said Kep was reluctant to change his stroke for more homers, but his flyball rate is up. I think Kepler was trying say the cliched, “coaches think and I implement” type of phrase. It just came out wrong. Maybe he needs to flatten out a bit to try to raise his LD% rate a bit? I’m not feeling good about Carter. At least Morrison brings a little defense to first. Gotta spell Mauer once in a while.
  13. agreed, and it was the right call to do, but it was still a detriment to his development even if it was a necessity. It felt like Polanco had the same minor league development recipe as a US high schooler even though the rules were different. Had the FO taken a more aggressive approach, maybe he’d have been more productive when he was forced onto the 40 man and active roster.
  14. i hope Magill starts getting into some higher leverage situations and a little more regular in his implementation. He’s been so good, but so sporadic
  15. And the corresponding move Mauer and Motter http://mlb.com/r/article?ymd=20180615&content_id=281366410&vkey=news_min&c_id=min
  16. https://www.twincities.com/2018/06/14/twins-demotion-of-miguel-sano-part-of-holistic-plan-to-reboot-all-star-third-baseman/ Sano has said the right things - i nabbed this from the MLBTR snippet “It’s the decision they take and I take too,” said Sano of the demotion. “I’m not mad. They gave me an opportunity. No reason I can get mad. … I’m going to take pride of going down there and working hard so I can come back and be better.”
  17. I think the pitching Falvine brought in was exactly as expected. This teams pitching went from worst to middle of the pack, a heroic feat. Morrison hasn’t quite delivered, but for 1 year 6 mil, no biggie It’s the players the Twins relied on last year that have not lived up to expectations. Mauer, Dozier, Sano, Polanco and Buxton. I’m not sure how Falvine is the cause of, or have predicted failure/injury with all of those players.
  18. If he continues this pace, he’d have to accept the QO huh?
  19. there are a number of holes in the lineup. Polanco is coming back, Gordon could be called up, Escobar has been great! Dozier has been very streaky in the past. There are realistic ways the team can improve 2B/SS with in house options. A RH Power hitting RF would be a good way to improve the hole at CF, maybe Cave can provide a spark... And then there’s Catcher... you just don’t see good hitting and fielding catchers available. That’s what made the Ramos/Capps trade so astoundingly stupid. You can never have too much quality catching.... and the entire org is void of legit catching prospects above low A. If Castro comes back in ‘19 it won’t be full time. Time is right for a big move at catcher. It might not be the biggest pain point in the lineup, but a good hitting catcher lengthens the lineup.
