Road to a Rebound: Trevor Larnach
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He needs either a new team or a coach that can really help him unlock his potential - hire Rowson. -
No one here to impact the Twins if they are looking to improve.

Give me Rowson - fresh start with someone who has been with a variety of teams and knows hitting which is our current weakest attribute.

I have been bothered by this posting all day long and the more I think about it the more I say no don't trade Ryan, don't trade Lopez, and try to give us some hope. Seth if I have any belief in your reporting I see Walker and Rodriguez and Gonzalez joining with Keaschall and providing us with the basis for a team that might make it into the playoffs. But subtracting our best pitchers is giving up.

Looking Back at the 2019 Twins Draft Class
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I do not know the percentage of hits and misses over a ten year span and I do not know how it compares to the other teams. We have a poor overall success rate and we have made choices to keep players who were less productive than those we let go. But the reality of MLB is that Free agents, drafts, and trades are all essential tools and to judge what we got from one class needs to ask the question, what did we get in return for those we let go and who did we get outside the draft board. Based on results my expectations are low.- 47 replies

2025 Twins Daily Minor League All Stars: The Hitters
mikelink45 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
second and third look weak, Catcher and 1B do not give a lot of hope and Winokur is limited. Not the best all-star minor league team except OF and DH look good as well as SS.- 12 replies

The ranking is close - I think Guzman and his six year 7.6 WAR needs to be on the list. I would take him and his speed and range over Polanco as a SS (I am not thinking about other positions for Polanco. I would put Cardenas 3 years and 11.1 WAR above all of them. Correa was good, but not what was advertised. I think Cardenas is number 1, Smalley 2, Gagne 3 Correa 4 (although on the short span Vesalles was better than him) and Guzman above Polanco. Meares and Barlett are honorable mentions.

What Will Minnesota Twins Do with Matt Wallner?
mikelink45 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Trade him to the A's where he can pair with Rooker! Or trade him to Toronto where he can reunite with Varland. I think he still has real value. If we have put up with Lee and Lewis and their production we owe Wallner another year.- 101 replies

Tough way to create an OBP. Might try using the bat instead of the body. Winokur's errors is consistent with what I witnessed in Iowa. I do not see him at SS.

Road to a Rebound: Brooks Lee
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Save and post - works for Julien, Miranda, Lewis, Wallner, Larnach. Perhaps the essay we need is an evaluation of all the supposedly baseball savvy coaches and what they are supposed to be doing. I noted that Popkins seemed to find himself after leaving the Twins way. Please start the quality control coach and help us figure out why our prospects fizzle in the majors. -
I don't speculate on trades - we have so many dream scenarios. I only look at what we know and right now this is not a championship up the middle combination. Let's hope Buxton retains his speed and quality so one of the positions is above average. In the minors I see Marek and Culpepper at least a year away. Beyond that not much and if you are still looking at Julien we are in big trouble and Martin is not going to raise the bar either.

Arbitrary Thoughts: Ryan Jeffers
mikelink45 replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I will be so happy if the new electronic strike zone gets rid of the ridiculous "framing". It is just legalized cheating. Let's move forward. The biggest question for me is his arm strength, speed, and accuracy as we are seeing a rebound in SB. Otherwise are we looking at a duo of Gaspar and Paredes? Yikes. -
Regression in MLB for our prospects has been a trend in Rocco's years. Whether him or the coaches it is a big failure. Now we hope on Walker, Rodriguez, Gonzales but what are the expectations for them to continue to progress. Wallner and Lewis and Julien and Miranda all had a decent start then the floor gave way. At least we can rely on the bullpen (sarcasm in case you wonder).

The Latest On Minnesota Twins' Managerial Search
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No opinion. No one is a good manager until they prove it. And even the best of managers - think Casey Stengel can win with a great team (Yankees) but not with a bad team (Mets). And bad managers (Fred Haney of Milwaukee Braves) win when the team is just so good they don't need to be managed. Tom Kelly is considered the superstar of Twins Managers had a career .478 winning record. And 5 winning years of first of second place in 16 years. Yet we think of him as the genius manager despite blowing it with Dave Ortiz and a few others. What makes a great manager? It really comes down to a smart baseball man who knows how to relate to his players without losing authority. Although my caveat now is that we have so many specialty coaches the manager is also the manager of a coaching team. How do we measure that ability of the coaches themselves?- 73 replies
