It really depends on what we would get back. The early we traded the higher the value, but are we sure we can afford to take him out of the rotation? Are Festa and SWR as good as he is? If we trade the Yankees are in desperate need and desperation raises the value of the return. Arizona needs someone now that Burnes is down. If we trade - maximize the opportunity.

I am going to enjoy this feature. Not sure it is worth a weekly column, but still the movement of prospects on TD and nationally is fun to follow.

What Should Minnesota Twins Do with Jorge Alcala?
mikelink45 replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Move on - sometimes a fix is not possible when you repeat the same things in the same places! Talent yes, performance erratic, dependable - no. Keep bringing up arms until we get what we need - that's why we have a minor league. -
Not much solace there, but thanks for trying

I am not sure this is what fans need to hear. The Twins are now in their 65th season. They have been to the WS three times, they have won two. They endured a record playoff losing streak. Owners threatened us with contraction. Then we were winning the owners announced that they were not going to do anything about it. And even before that Calvin Griffiths racism cost us Rod Carew. The fans and all the other Minnesotans have paid for a good portion of three stadiums. I remember when were told that we needed to have an inside stadium and then when the next argument was that baseball is meant to be played outside. We have had seasons like 2016 where our run differential was -167 and we had a 364 winning percentage! We also had 2011 63 - 99 -185 run differential and 2012 - 13 both 66 - 96 with run differentials of -174 and -131. By decade - 1960s 862 747 .536 1970s 812 794 .506 1980s 733 833 .468 1990s 718 833 .463 2000s 863 758 .532 2010s 765 855 .472 2020s 356 352 .503 Minnesota Twins 1961-2025 5067 5117 .498 It has always been the long view, but then football came along and saw that people wanted my instant gratification and basketball rose because people wanted non-stop action. (I cannot explain soccer). Perhaps what the article should have been is congratulations you long term fans who have stuck around even then the stadium deflated along with the team.

I loved the game - sometimes even a loss can be enjoyable - that is baseball! This game does highlight the TD article on how much our RP are being used - not much choice in an extra innings but two more innings by Ober and we save two RP. I do agree with the comments on Alcala - time to move on.

Bring back the complete game! I know I am dreaming but was inspired by Tarik Skubal's Maddax game recently. However, that is not in our team plans so back to what we have and like JD-Twins I have absolutely no faith in Alcala and would replace him in a minute. He has -0.5 WAR, 7.08 era, 1.672 WHIP. Funderburk has a career 5.66 era and 1.491 WHIP and this year is worse that his career stats. His WAR is -0.3. Maybe it is time to use some of the minor league RP or SP and see if we can find another Varland. In the meantime give us more 7 inning starts like we got from Mathews!!

It is frustrating to see good players do well for a while in MLB and then spiral downward. We hope Lewis is not on that path. But we have seen it before and I think the biggest issue is the need to adjust as the major league pitchers adjust to them and they always will. It is a constant game of changes over time. But for these players the adjustment was not made and then discouragement sets in. When you don't have confidence it is hard to produce.

This is two years of not hitting well. It is not new. There are 101 games of bad hitting versus the first 70 when we were expecting a star. All the analytics in the world overload the fan as well as the player, but it comes down to the player the bat and the ball. I hope something changes, but I remember well when Bob Hazle came to the Braves in Milwaukee and looked the next Ted WIlliams. 41 games, 403 average in 1957. He led them to the World Series and then the bottom dropped out!

Just like last year we are wasting a lot of Wallner bombs in AAA. Some players need less of a runway to returning. Sorry McCusker did not get more of a chance. Now to get Keaschall back. I went to the minor league stats and Winokur and Rodriguez do not look like they belong as high as we all expected. I hope they get it going. I am also less impressed with Lewis this year. Am I missing something?

I will take Ryan and say that I am happy to have all of these players on our team. Buxton is electric but his K's mean he is often absent when needed just like when he has health issues. Not my all=start this year and looking at the roster right now Jeffers might be the best candidate for a second team.

Week in Review: Rain and Resilience
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I love these summaries. And I keep thinking about Lewis and why Rocco bats him so high in the order. At this point, 8:00 or 9:00 is the right position for him. I also questioned bride and his usage. So I hope he is the next to go when we return our two good bats. I am enjoying the sequence of good well-pitched games. This is the kind of baseball we grew up on. I remember the Mets with their great pitching staff and lousy hitting and they went all the way to win the world series. Pitching still carries a club and with our two good hitters coming back now and one in July we may be more than just a pitching team again.- 9 replies

Let's just accept all his wins this year. He's going to be a free agent and most likely will go elsewhere. With the article on today's win, looking at ober's reduced velocity and this article, I guess festa and Matthews are looking at their opportunity for next year in the fall rotation. Or maybe SWR and Morris.
-
If he is truly regressing this year and his speed is down, he might be a good candidate to trade with other teams. Hoping he can retain the quality he has had these last few years. I have enjoyed seeing him learned pitch rather than just go for strikeouts like so many are now. But if he's not maxing his effort and fastball then perhaps he should be able to go deeper in the game

Chase Petty is now moving up the prospect list. Luis Gil is injured but was ROY. Cano was great for the Orioles last year.
