  1. I have no idea how to judge coaches - is it one coach, is it systemic to the entire coaching staff from beginning to end, is there one person in management who is the problem? Why blame Rocco and not the bench coach, the quality control coach, of the person acquiring the talent? I don't know where to begin. I remember our anguish over losing Rowson - now he is with the Yankees. He has Judge, Stanton, Rice, Bellinger. We have Buxton, Wallner, Larnach, Clemens....
  2. What's left to say? What is there to Hope for the rest of this year. It is depressing and I applaud the fans that can see a silver lining.
  3. so happy to see this. But have to temper my enthusiasm. I was also excited to Abel and Bradley promoted.
  4. Good comments. I am glad to see Abel and pleased with Hatch but still time before decisions. Three solo HRs. We need runners on base and big hits when they are. Time for a prospect instead of Outman.
  5. SWR is interesting when I compare his era with Festa, Ober, and Matthews we could make a case that he should replace them. It always seems like he is singled out among starters but he has accumulated 1.5 WAR this year and 2 last year. I do not see him as a really good pitcher, but on a team with only Ryan leading the way in the rotation, he is adequate. I hope one of the young guys you listed beat out Roden and I hope we see more OF hitting - not sure Wallner and Larnach are really the answers there or 1B or DH. I don't see Royce leaving or the team giving up on him. We struggled through a lot of down years with Buxton but waited out health and got the star we wanted. I see Royce on the same path.
  6. I am ready for some more promotions - Outman doesn't do it for me. Give a young batter a chance. Same with Julien - I know he got two hits last night, but everyone hit against the Sox. I just went to the BR page to see the Twins batting stats. Looking just at BA (I still like this stat) and out of 23 batters this year 6 are hitting under 200. Mickey Gaspar is 117 and still on the team and playing? And Julien is 198. Six are hitting below Lewis 233 and four are on the current roster. So of 23 batters for the year 13 are hitting 233 or lower! Of the remaining 10 batters above 233 - 4 are gone in the big house cleaning. I think we started on the wrong end of the list. Out team BA is 238, If we look at OPS 10 are under 650 with Gaspar at 387 and 5 are on the current roster. Martin escapes at 657. And of course out of the other 12 four are traded. Team OPS 705. Of course we aren't winning and its time for some real experiments - give the young players a chance - I do not care about their time before arbitration - well before that they will be DFA'd, traded, or signed. Or, how about pitching. BR has 33 pitchers for the year which includes Bride - our team era is 4.27 11 pitchers have an era under 3 (this includes Willi Castro) - we have 2 left. We have three more with eras in the 3's. They are all on the team. We have 13 (includes Clemens and Bride) with eras over five which includes Ober, Festa, Matthews, Then we have 10 with eras over 6 and six of them in double figures. Yes Bride and Clemens are on this list and Cabrera is our active double digit era leader.
  7. I hate to say it, but despite the win, we also established that we are on a par with the SOX. Let's hope we use this slugfest to right the ship and keep Chicago with their losing ways.
  8. I have been concerned about over coaching for a long time with this analytic driven team. I remember Buxton's early years when they changed his batting stance, approach, etc every other month and he finally said screw it. Let's hope they are not trying to change Keaschall.
  9. The rule should be that the Twins always have the bases loaded when he comes to bat. No problem!
  10. The refusal to bring up the pitchers they got in trades emphasizes the fact that they're playing to lose and really don't care about the rest of us and what we might enjoy
  11. I am ready to see a hot hand given a chance - if he fails Roden can step back in.
  12. Roden gets the choice? No put Fedko or one of the other young prospects in. I don't care that Roden is supposed to show how smart our FO is.
  13. So many questions. I read the comments and think about my own reactions. Our problem is that we just are not any good. There was an article talking about Lee as the new Miranda - way off. Lee is looking better than most of our players so focus on those who aren't. Comments about Wallner and Lewis are accurate - they are not contributing - and neither is Julien - why not Eeles, why not Fedko, why not a second catcher who might get a hit? Larnach is replacement level, Clemens shines because he is on this team, otherwise his line would have him on the bench or back in AAAA land. And boy am I excited to see Urenas starting again instead of one of the young arms!!!!!!!
  14. It seems as if you have countered your own premise. Is he going to be good? Skeptical, but the BP is never a straight forward process. But the advantage for TD is that you can now write about - Kriske, Abel, Bradley, Misiewicz, Ramirez, Urenas, Ohl, Urena, Cabrera, Topa, and Funderburk - just don't do all of them on one day.
  15. I am really tired of the Brooks Lee criticism. On this team there is a lot of blame to go around. The young Lee has not been our failed hitter - look to his right - Lewis and consider where he is. Clemens is far less important but seems to be getting more of a pass because we expect so much of Lee. Lee is fourth on the team in hits, he is fifth in HRs, he is second in RBIs, 3rd in BA, fourth is OBP, and fourth in slugging among those with enough ABs to qualify. He is also second in games played - a very important stat for a team that has so many injured. Give him some time and find a different topic for this kind of essay.
  16. Sit Clemens, sit Lewis, bring up some young players to debut and try to earn a place on the roster. If we are not going to sign Larnach - sit him and bring up Fedko or Jenkins or Gonzales. Replace Julien Try out some more young pitchers in the BP. Ohl may be turning it around, but other than he and Sands who do we project keeping for 2026? Replace any that are going to be replaced after the season. Give this team some interest. We just lost to a losing team with out Ace on the mound.
  17. Nice to have good news in the minors - I still want a lot of young players coming up to the Twins - I don't need to see the current BP, or Outman or Julien - this should be tryout season in Minneapolis.
  18. I will stay with Keaschall, then Culpepper, Tait in that order. I am still not sold on Rodriquez no matter how many ratings I see. Please prove me wrong and be a star.
  19. This is one of the most difficult things to measure - no Analytics for culture. I remember when the Charlie Finley A's were dominating baseball and fighting in the clubhouse - what culture? I remember Billy Martin hitting his own star pitcher and still they won. Is it about friendship, leadership, winning or managing a diverse group of guys and ages? I am less impressed with baseball managers strategy than with their ability to get the team to focus. Does it take a vet? Is that the real value of a Cruz or Thome? Did Correa lead or was he an outlier who played his game but did not have followers? How many coaches does it take to focus the team? Look at the contrasts in successful managers - Cash and Murphy - opposite analytic extremes, Did Craig Counsell lose his way when he left WI and moved to Chicago? Was Casey Stengal a genius with the Yankees and a buffoon with the Mets? It takes players and leadership in the clubhouse, it also takes some managerial smarts. Old Casey was a good example. He was not a genius with the Yankees, but he got them to play and play well together. With the Mets he knew he could not win, but he let his players enjoy their moments in the sun. Unfortunately I do not know what Baldelli is doing and I cannot judge him and his staff. But Correa at least gives us something to talk about.
  20. Good review of the position. But what are the odds they make it in MLB. Catching is one tough position and I can only hope we have a catcher here that will fit in behind Jeffers so we do not have to sign another Vasquez type nor keep Gaspar as catcher.
  21. What's left to be said? Always a good summary thank you.
  22. Good write up. It reminds me of the amazing mets - if you have no chance at least have a laugh or two.
